People often mention "Peak writing" or "peak fiction"
what about the opposite?
Pic related is probably one of the most memed-upon lines in movie history. but is it the worst?

“Worst” is a classic movie conundrum because most people have never and will never see a movie that’s so incompetent it actually competes for “worst” anything. Those movies are unwatchable and don’t have regular releases.

Instead you get something like the Star Wars Holiday Special which is atrocious but is a real production with actual stars and actors, being memed as “the worst”. Or shit like Birdemic or Shark Volcano which fails to be funny bad by being intentionally bad. Funny bad and cringe bad is a tightrope walk.

Take shit like Red Zone Cuba or Manos, made famous by MST3K. Damn near unwatchable without a commentary track on top. It’s both bad, incompetent and extremely boring.

But people might be more familiar with famous Youtuber abortions now. Shit like Doug Walkers The Wall or AVGNs movie or the RLM movies. Absolute fricking dreck.

Point is “the worst” will never be found in any mainstream release, that’s just a failure of imagination on your part.

      >Or shit like Birdemic or Shark Volcano which fails to be funny bad by being intentionally bad. Funny bad and cringe bad is a tightrope walk.

I saw Sand Sharks and it's objectively one of THE worst movies I can imagine. There's bad shark movies, bad syfy channel / asylum movies etc etc, but this one was awfully incompetent at anything it set out to do, including being funny. Just atrocious and a total failure through and through.

OK, went through my recorded rating history and here's what I rated as 1/10
        - Sand Sharks
        - Monaco Forever
        - Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle
        - I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer
        - 2 Headed Shark Attack
        - Megaboa
        - Moon Crash

This reminds me that Megaboa, against all possible odds, has an absolutely noname random actress who is ACTUALLY GOOD in it and it's instantly noticeable compared to all the other noname fricks in it (and Eric Roberts). I'm not going to claim that she is somehow amazing (it's not like there's anything amazing to act here, to start with), but she very obviously gives a frick and gives a perfectly fine performance. Others are awful.

In the recent The Last Voyage Of The Demeter, there is this gem:

    - But why London? [why does this strange creature from Romania needs to go to London]
    - Because in my country, there is no one left to feed on anymore.

Motherfricker a vampire drank AN ENTIRE EUROPEAN COUNTRY worth of people in the 19th century and it's not known news?

What's worse, it's very very clearly a post-production overdub. This is spoken at a super random spot in the movie and while the speaking characters have their backs turned to the camera. I bet that test audiences were confused and had this question too, so the studio demanded to insert this "fix".

    >one of the most memed-upon lines in movie history

For some reason people absolutely hated THIS in the trailer of the Point Break remake:

    - Bodhi, do you have any idea how many people you've killed, how many laws you've broken?
    - (scoffs) The only law that matters is gravity. (plunges off a cliff)

    (at 2:09)

But I think it's very on brand for the character and for the edgy mood of the movie as a whole. But it was so ridiculed that the final released cut of the movie doesn't have this line.

the thing is it sounds like an line from a parody movie that plays on the tv a cartoon character owns.

The opening scene of The Dark Knight Rises (2012), commonly referred to as "the plane scene" is the absolute Marianas trench of bad writing. Bad line delivered one after another for over 5 minutes straight, it's quite impressive how the actors really gave it their all.

Bad line delivery in Nolan's movies are always gonna be his fricking fault and people don't call him out enough on that. He always uses the first take on the basis that it's the most natural. Naturally shit more like.

In all honesty, the prequels are even worse.
No seriously, you just can't beat this:
    >Yousa in big doo-doo this time!! BLBLBLBLBL
    >Hello there!
    >I'm haunted by the kiss that you never should have given me.
    >I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating, and it gets everywhere.
    >Believe me, I wish I could just wish away my feelings.
    >Now, this is podracing!
    >I'm in agony. The closer I get to you, the worse it gets.
    >From my point of view, the Jedi are evil!
    >Woah, icky icky goo!
    >Are you an angel?
    >Ooooh, my bones are aching... storm's coming up, Annie. You'd better get home quick.
    >There's always...a bigger fish.
    >Oh this is such a drag.
    >I hate it when he does that.
    >Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering. (???????)
    >I have seen a security hologram of him... killing younglings.
    >I killed them. I killed them all. They're dead. Every single one of them. And not just the men, but the women and the children, too! They're like animals, and I slaughtered them like animals! I hate them!
    >If you're not with me, then you're my enemy.
    >You and the Naboo form a symbiont circle, what happens to one of you affects the other, you must understand this.
    >You’re so beautiful... / It’s only because I’m so in love. / I'm so in love...with you! / Then love has blinded you?
    >Anakin, you're breaking my heart!
    >the "death sticks" scene...why.
    >This is how democracy dies, with thunderous applause.
There's a reason why these movies could only be redeemed through memes, because they simply couldn't be redeemed at all. It's fricking embarassing, Lucas should have been hanged for this shit.

None of those lazily undo a two trilogy arc and actually alter the entire series up to that point though, so there is that. The film doesn’t even offer a concrete explanation after this. Just one guy going “maybe it was this?”. It’s not just the line which the actor looks embarrassed to say, but what it represents.

Well in that case, what you're looking for would be something like Highlander II: The Quickening and Son of the Mask.
Movies so terrible and fundamentally broken they somehow managed to make the opus that came before worse in retrospect.

Or maybe that godawful line in Alien 3

Or maybe you could go for an Alex Proyas movie too. The dialogue is always certified to suck ass

That line is perfectly written as it is. All these prison guys are religious spergs who read from the Bible and that's what dialogue in the Bible sounds like.

      Its very true.
I think Jar Jar is over rated. Spergs have editted him out of the prequels so you can watch that version of you want.
Name a single thing wrong with a non Jar Jar and non ep1 Anikan line

What’s wrong with the last two? A jedi dismissing a drug dealer with a mind trick makes sense and sending him home to rethink his life was a nice little touch. That’s consistent with the character.
The democracy line was fine as well. Melodramatic but this is space opera.

I think it fits the vibe. The prequels were quite literally soap operas and if you've ever seen a soap opera you know how awful and nonsensical everything is.

It’s not just the line alone but everything around it and what it represents. The film doesn’t even give a proper answer after actively undoing the films that came before, and the actor looks embarrassed.

The line’s also terrible because it references something that happens canonically but which does not appear in any movie or tv show and when you go look for what the frick they’re talking about you find out it happened in literal Fortnite

It’s far from the worst even if it is bad. Good movies get away with hand-waving major plot points all the time
If you have a good script, good actors, a good premise, audiences will be willing to dismiss a lot of concerns
In this case, Palpatine being brought back is really dumb by itself. It was not set up at all in the prior two films. He was also very much Anakin/Luke’s villain, Rey has no connection to him so it feel’s anticlimactic for her character. And of course his return diminishes Anakin’s sacrifice in VI.
The OT had some dumb lines too but they’re fun and exciting space opera so nobody cared

Back to the Future never explains why Marty hangs with Doc does it?
I remember reading that Bob Gale or Zemeckis says specifically how they met but I forget.

        Anonymous

I don’t think it does. It also ends before the audience has time to think about how Marty is now with a version of his family who he has no memory of, having grown up in the original timeline, his mom and dad effectively replaced with these new people. It’s kinda bleak if you think about it, but we don’t think about it, because the movie is well-written and doesn’t dwell on that.
