which I don't know how is that possible.

I really don't get how streaming platforms never have to clarify or prove any of their statements. They can all just make claims that a show they own is the most successful thing ever released and at the same time refuse to release any kind of numbers to prove the statement. It's all just such a joke at this point.

I wonder how far we are from sort of legislation towards that since it exists to keep stock prices up and lie and say engagement is high.
Maybe if paramount fumbles more, since their streaming side has been a bit of a disaster.

It will probably take someone leaking actual figures from one of the major streaming platforms and proving that they're grossly exaggerating or flatly lying about their success. That or the general population getting worked up about it and demanding more transparency.

Yeah, unfortunately. I just feel with this process it just cultivates these shit shows. They put something in there to rivial both groups, it creates buzz on social media and then they never have to show numbers just “engagement”

      >they get some other high-profile actress (you know it's going to be a female lead), maybe Margot Robbie
      >initial hype from Issa Lopez fans will be strong
      >opener will be just like opener of S4: just interesting enough to string you along to tuning in the next week
      >but normies will get the ruse
      >they'll know it'll just be another bullshit marathon of trite drama and nothing happening
      >views will be nowhere near S4, 3, or any of the seasons
      >show will tank in views
      >polarization and culture war threads will spark up, just like S4, but nobody will listen
      >show fades into obscurity and failure
      >Issa Lopez is let go from True Detective, Pizzaman comes back on board

To add. Note that the concept of Truth does not exist to these people as it does to other human beings. They decide what's true themselves - create fake reviews, fake buzz, fake articles, and pay people to go online and argue against people who have real opinions and real criticism. Then they use their own fake content as proof of a success, and can successfully keep driving their ideological agenda, with the public none the wiser. This is the ultimate control, the dominance of the small, vicious, greedy personal self versus Nature itself.

    1>3>4>>>>>2
I will die on this hill.
4 was garbage with horrid writing but it at least had an incredible and unique setting. The setup for it had a lot of potential (Ep 1 and 2) but it falls off a cliff.

2 is straight irredeemable dumpster fire SHIT. The only redeemable character in the show was Ray, who they did mind-bogglingly dirty at the end. I can accept him dying, why do they also have no keep him from sending a fricking heartfelt text to his son? The homosexual cop was useless. The girlboss character cop was horrible. Vince Vaughn's character was ok but his acting was fricking horrible - I cannot stand his stupid fricking forced bad guy Batman voice. Not to mention it has so much convoluted nonsense for little to no payoff. If you need a recap:

    >4 different independently operating characters whose time spent on-screen together is minimal until later episodes. Plethora of side-characters and interpersonal drama surrounding each of them.

    >A Russian gang, a Mexican cartel, another Mexican gang into Santa Muerte worship, israeli mobsters, Frank's gang, Vinci PD, Ventura County PD, state police, and Catalast + Black Mountain.

    >Constant backstabbing and double-crossing within all of the above.

It feels like Pizzolatto was trying to cram three seasons worth of material into an eight-episode miniseries, and you're left constantly wondering if this long conversation you're seeing on-screen has anything to do with impending plot developments or is just more personal drama.

Then once you've pieced it all together, the only payoff you get in the final episode is seeing the police chief get assassinated and Ray+Frank shoot up the Russian mob. All of the protagonists, including the perp of the original murder, die except the most annoying one with some of the most hamfisted characterization I've seen for that type. If there's any justice for the criminal conspiracy, it maybe happens off-screen after the show ends.

I don't agree that 2 was as bad as you say but I do agree with a lot of your points. Ray got fricked and didn't deserve it. I thought Vince Vaughn was fine.
My biggest gripe is probably just from being spoiled from season 1. In season 1 at least, the plot stayed focus on THE MURDER the whole time, you know, the actual crime. It was interesting to see them go into more conspiracy shit in season 2 but it really detracted from the original murder. I watched episode 1, saw casper's death and thought, "wow, this is going to be really cool, I can't wait to see how this murderer plays cat and mouse taunting the police" and then that plotline fizzled out in favor of the rich guys human trafficking plotline. Ideally, they would have just set it up similar to season 1, where the killer was being hired by the rich guys in order to pick off people dangerous to their organization. Or, the killer is more active, actually going to war against the rich people and getting a lot more kills. But a single one? Kind of lame.

Season 2 was obviously influenced by Pynchon-style neo-noir stories where the world is ruled by an impenetrable web of overlapping conspiracies and interests. There isn't supposed to be any justice or a happy ending. Season 4 on the other hand fails to even tell a coherent story on the basic level. It was just a feminist revenge fantasy masquerading as a detective story.
