Why does it get so much hate?
Just watched it and seems perfectly servicible, well scripted, well acted neo-noir.
The plot is a bit mundane but so was S01.
Not as good as S01 but that was a one off. Is it just contrarism?

I've never even seen it tbh. I just don't care much for Farrell and forgot to get around to it.
Too many characters that don’t really get fleshed out, overall plot is lame, setting is generic. Velcoro and Frank were the best parts
It still gets hate?
I might rewatch it, thanks for the reminder OP. Haven't seen it since it came out and I enjoyed it back then. the Cinemaphile threads were kino
caspere knew this
2>1 for me
It's because the whole series turned out to be a giant wiener tease after baiting everybody in with with an awesomely dank first season. Crooked developers was a shitty follow-up to the creepy political cult, and the less said about the ridiculous "Super Soldier" storyline, the better.
Thats how I felt about S01, the ending was very flat and predictable. S02 fixed that with a lot more tension but yeah, tied up too many loose ends.
S01 reminds me of The Force Awakens, where it wasn't perfect, but you were left off feeling like you were on a solid ground for a good series arc. Didn't happen, and now the whole thing is tarnished and increasingly forgettable.
>S01 reminds me of The Force Awakens
>wasn't perfect
>the whole thing is tarnished
>forgettable
>S01 reminds me of The Force Awakens
agreed, anon, both're catastrophic dishonest reddit shit
Well it shouldn't. Because it's an anthology series, not a traditional show. Honestly the fact you compare it to a series like star wars just tells me your opinion concerning it is awful and should not be taken into consideration. This is further evidenced by your first comment where you said s1 "baits you in". It was known to be an anthology show from the start so there was no baiting, you're just moronic.
Season 2 is much better btw
Good point
>and the less said about the ridiculous "Super Soldier" storyline, the better.
Idgi that part was good. /gaycop/ was a pmc veteran, rotates back to the world and won't admit he's a gay so he gets caught up in some bullshit.
is s02 even good, i tried watching the first episode, it was ok. Should I continue? Does it get better. I don't mind it being slow, just that does it get to a somewhat serviceable conclusion.
It's pretty fricking terrible. morons who thought the first season was the most philosophically deep and edgy tv series ever try to hype it but the reality is the writer just went up his own ass. The third season is ok in comparison (but it never really gets going and relies too much on the MC without giving him enough depth).
Who pulled it off better?
I started watching it and I forget exactly but right near the start he gets trashed at a bar and then just drives to a job and is fine once he gets there, no one says anything, he isn't slurring or stinking. I have no time for any show with such a disregard for internal consistency. You just never know what matters and what doesn't, so no point watching
The dialogue was a meme unto itself. Really haven't seen anything like it since.
Probably because it's just a total change of atmosphere and also a huge step down in terms of writing.
I liked the characters but the plot itself was average. And also it took me like half the season to even understand what the frick is going on because it was hard to follow with all the names etc.
If this show was hard to understand for you it's because YOU are moronic. It is not even remotely confusing
Wrong. Too many characters, too many names and its edited out of order so that its hard to tell what the frick is happening.
S02 got buried in reviews because it's about LA and way too close to being all true. Even small details like the bakery that Vince Vaughn meets the Armenian mafia at is modelled almost exactly after a real bakery in Glendale that is Armenian mafia owned and has a brothel upstairs. The high speed rail project was one of the biggest public money scams in state history. The casino Vince owns is based on a real organized crime connected casino. The shitty unincorporated industrial area is an irl hotbed of corruption as well. The girls at the party were all going to be underage until they got too much pushback and made them adults. Pretty much every location is or is made to look near identical to a real location in LA. It's a lot of details you probably wouldn't pick up on if you're not an LA native. But for casting the city in the light it does the critics ripped it apart.
yeah true detective s2 was fricked just like utopia
>Verification not required.
Because it's worse than s1 in every aspect. The idea for the plot in s2 is not bad, but it's poorly executed, you can see they rushed everything to capitalize on s1 success. S1 was candy for the eye while s2 was just plain ugly. Poorly directed, poorly edited, okay acting with some of them being really bad (the cop with the bike for example). It had promising moments but the full pack of the season was an average cops tv show
the blonde was pretty hot
All the characters suck. Rust was a nihilist shitbag but the dynamic with Marty made it work. In S2 everyone is just shitty and damaged, its not interesting or enjoyable to watch. The story also sucks ass.. went from some shadowy and connected child sacrificing cult to a fight over land development or some shit.
Bloated cast
Cut any one char and suddenly you have room to breath and flesh the others out.
Gay cop would be my #1 choice, next to love interest cop
Vince vaughn was unironically great but i disliked the leadup to the ending.
His whole "I'm hust trying to navigate the blur" line is great
Farrell ofc is great
"Sucking on a robot's wiener" comment about vapes
Overarching story also good
But too much backstory to crunch through
i remember watching 2 episodes before i put it away in disgust
decided to give it a second chance because i ran out of things to watch so i thought i might have changed my mind and it's worth watching
couldnt even finish the first episode
the only great character is collins
the other two detectives act like trash and the lines written make me cringe every single scene
