This. Always has been. Rust is literally a fedora-tipper's power fantasy and somehow so many homosexuals on Cinemaphile worship that character TO THIS DAY.
>Rust is literally a fedora-tipper's power fantasy
He was a fricking loser by every metric of this fricked up society we live in but Marty ended up the same way in the end albeit via a different path. The difference was Rust was self-aware about it. The only power Rust had was the power to stare into the abyss without flinching.

I know this is spammed ironically by someone trying to bait, but i really do think that's true.
I really liked S1, but S2 was just better for me. It kept getting better and better until the climax, which isn't really true for S1. And i'm not being a "contrarian" for simply having an opinion that differs from the mainstream.
S2 is better than it was originally made out to be, but the only reason anons on this board are now praising it over S1 is because they’ve outgrown the pessimistic, Ligotti-esque alcoholism that Rust represents, and collectively reached the level of over-the-hill loser alcoholism Ray embodies.
Its perception on this board has nothing to do with actual quality and everything to do with the degree of despair the alkies Cinemaphile has slid into as a whole.

True. I've had great indepth discussions over the themes and the characters of S2 while with S1 it's just REGGIE LEDUBS DID THIS, you don't mow my lawn, past a certain age- nothing but fricking brain rotting memes and references.

If you weren't here when these shows originally aired then your opinion doesn't count.
Beautiful and bleak scene. The scenery being a fricking empty desert is brilliant. Frank's final moments are spend bleeding in the middle of nowhere. As Chessani put it to Frank in Episode 4 >The world will keep spinning, uncaring of our struggles.
Beautiful scene, beautiful season.
Vince's acting was also amazing, how his eyes welled up and he pulled away from his wife trying to comfort him. Great stuff. S2 was always about real humans.
he was fricking great
all of the actors in this season brought their A-game
for me it's the scene at the end with one of his henchman who thanks him for saving his life on the job site all those years ago
his whole monologue about being locked in the basement as a kid and how he often wonders if he actually died years ago was kino

totally forgot about all that

>wonders if he actually died years ago
This is a major theme throughout the season -- the characters already being dead or having lived previous lives. Ani's dad notes Velcoro seems like he's lived many lives, Frank "thinks" he's still alive in the desert when he's not. Velcoro's death is premonitioned in the bar when talking to his father. "this is my least favorite life"
My favourite scene was Paul, Em and her mother having dinner and talking. Paul sorted his life out, he's in love with this woman and is having a child. The warmth of the scene and the normality of it resonated with me. Then, there's the scene where he freaks out that the money he risked his life for was wasted by his mother when he needed it for his child.
i thought that dinner scene was rather tragic, i sensed the overwhelming anxiety paul was feeling, how he felt like a fish out of water, unsure how to act. the alcohol he was downing was an attempt to soothe the adrenaline/panic. he knew what was 'normal' but he didn't feel normal. he got given a chance to become 'normal' and he was running desperately towards it with blind panic

It's best if you haven't seen season 1 for a while, like months. It's not a straightforward plot with two characters like Rust and Marty anchoring everything neatly. I didn't like it much as it aired, about 12 months after the first season, but years later found it to be brilliant.
