I decided to rewatch it, as I hadn't watched it for many years. I have to say, I really enjoyed it this time around. I think that if instead of being the S2 of TD it would have been its own thing, called "Vinci Heat" or something like that, it'd be considered good television. It has very interesting characters, fairly complex plot with nice twists that flows at a good pace. It does have its downfalls: the ending is way too much of a downer, the middle-of-the-season shootout was a bit disappointing and I really think that Vince Vaughn's character should have smelled a lot of the betrayal much earlier. I know that this season is a high point of contention, but I do recommend another watch, as its own thing, not as a sequel to the first season of TD.
I remember watching the first episode of this season and there's this line where Rachel McAdams' character is trying to talk sense to her wild child sister and the sister says "When you walk it sounds like erasers clapping." That kind of overwritten hardboiled dialogue just sounded goofy. I think I'd say the season wasn't terrible but it was dissonant in a way that the first season wasn't.
I actually had to look up what that meant, not being a native English speaker, but it's funny because the sister doesn't know how much of a bawd Ani is.
>I actually had to look up what that meant, not being a native English speaker
Even as an English speaker it takes a second to get it because you have to know that teachers used to punish students by making them clap together blackboard erasers to get the chalk dust out of them. If you're under 50 years old you've probably only ever seen this in cartoons from the 1990s.
The goofy and edgy pizzalatte dialogue is what made the show good thougheverbeit, and yes that includes season one. The actual biggest problem with the new season isn't "woke" or whatever, it's that the dialogue is far too conventional and there are no scenes like pic related.
Frank was such a great character
Yeah I bet we won't see many character flaws from the two new detectives besides a lesbian daughter making lesbian videos and maybe some misjudged cases
>Never do anything out of hunger, not even eating.
>That kind of overwritten hardboiled dialogue
I never like when people do "x was always y" but man, I've been rewatching 1 since the new season started, and the dialogue is exactly like this in season 1 too. Half the shit Rust says is overwritten the same way, it's that kind of Chris Carter-esque dialogue that sounds more like an author writing description in a book than an actual character speaking. I like it and the moodiness of these shows, I think it's a way of sylising them, but I think when the dialogue gets criticized online and S1 doesn't, it's largely because people mistake the humor in S1 for self-aware humor.
It is diverse, it is sweaty and dry, it is Los Angeles.
God, Rachel McAdams in her bawd makeup was so sexy on that night party.
At some point I considered moving to LA just to meet loose Rachel McAdams lookalikes.
That's how I felt after my rewatch.
Coming from S1 it was somewhat disappointing. LA/Cali was the setting to a myriad movies and shows where Louisiana is less common. It did not have the mystical American Gothic feel of the first.
But on it's own merits it still has great characters and atmosphere.
The main plot, however, really fell off to the wayside. When I rewatched it, I could not remember who was the murderer in the end and he really was not all that interesting.
S3 had a better setting again, but the characters were not as interesting to me. Still good, but not great.
Curious about the new one.
you sound like an actual stupid person
i don't care what you think
S2 is going through it's "Dragon Ball GT" resurgence of acceptance and popularity simply because the new content is so bad that people didn't realize how good we really had it
Yeah, it's hard to find anything watchable nowadays. That's why I rewatch the first season of TD once a year or so, I know that I'll always like it. Seems like I'll be adding S2 now too.
Alot of people also set the standards for the show way too high after S1.
S2 was still better than 90% of the shows going on at the time.
the biggest problem with S2 was the gay who was worried people in LA would find out he's gay. He lived in the gayest town possible and is worried a town full of super proLGBT supporters would find out he is gay. Made no sense and don't bring his mom into this, guy could have been the president and she would still shit all over him. Its only good because Vince and Colin tried so hard. The shootouts are laughably bad, considering they brought in a guy who only directs action films and he couldnt match the action of S1 is pretty funny.
Woodrugh was great. His pain and suffering. The black mountain stuff and his death was kino as frick.
I think he just didn't want people to find out because he knew he had a girl with a kid on the way and needed to put that past gay life behind him and focus on reality.
this
you're all weird closeted goobers anyways so you think you'd find it relatable but instead it just causes cognitive dissonance to your fragile egos
s2 was kino af
>if you dont relate to the closeted homosexual its because youre in the closet.
no
>t. closeted uggo
S1 was lovecraftian, S2 was lynchian, simple as, after that he stopped trying to do new -ians, just redid S1 with Black folk, which obviously ended up being not as good
DID HE SHIT IN THEM!?
i watched it for the 1st time after rewatching s1 a month ago
i thought it was fine
i really liked velcoro and was disappointed that he didnt even get off his voicemail in the end
it just felt very different from s1 and like everyone says just wasnt focused enough
>i really liked velcoro and was disappointed that he didnt even get off his voicemail in the end
It felt somehow sadistic that Velcoro didn't even get a small win like that. He died as a supposed murderer, no redemption for the public eye.
The good guys don't always win..
Not that he was necessarily always a good guy. Shows that blur those lines are hard to find these days since everything has just become to black and white, good and bad guys superhero bullshit shows and movies.
She is ugly
