Doubtful, John was in the middle of that shit for months before his "Sabbatical". If anything it was some crazy ass producer who grabbed it to get ahead of the abuse allegations and provide some cover PR.

He was probably already on his way out, so I don't think so. I'm sure Domee Shi saying she's making a movie influenced by Takahata would be too tempting for Lasseter to not greenlight, even if the final product changed.

That seems to be her biggest influence for the cartoony look of her characters. She namedropped My Neighbors the Yamadas many times during Bao press and the white-bleached water color backgrounds of Turning Red are a staple of that and Only Yesterday. She also said she took inspiration from Chie the Brat for how it portrayed kids.

It's funny how I've seen both fans and detractors of the film claim it'd never get made under Lasseter. Guess it'd be funnier if he did greenlight it.
Amdi Amidi says that John Lasseter did greenlight it but I don't know if he really knows that for sure or is just basing that on chronology.
