Just started it. I’m aware that there’s a drop in quality at some point. Did you like the main series, fire walk with me, and the return? Or is it just an eternal mystery with quirky soap opera characters

David Lynch was given much more creative control for season 3 than he had been given previously. Have you not seen his movies?

season 1 to season 2 aren't even the same show. the only common thread is the finale of s2 where lynch stepped in and tried to course correct the festering abortion that mark frost had turned his baby into.

you probably like the kitschy and derivative soap opera style that lynch created a love letter to in the first season, which frost hamfisted into the bloated corpse which is s2. that explains why you can't get into the return, because lynch purposefully makes you work to get back to that point by showing you how dark and evil the world has become in 25 years without agent cooper. the fact that it's an entirely different beast, intentionally so, from the original series should have been evident to you from the moment judy attacks that guy and his girlfriend in the viewing box room in e1. i'd suggest watching and finishing s3 before rushing to judge it as it has one of the best payoffs in modern media. your time is valued, as much as lynch wants to make you think it isnt.

The entirety of the Dougie subplot is proof that we don't always know what we need. That it takes so fricking long for the cast to reunite at the sheriff's station, only for it to get cut short immediately, it's not exactly subtle. The town of Twin Peaks has degenerated and rotted in the years since we left it, the tone of the show has changed completely, just look at the fricking color grading for one.

Season 2 gets stupid because co-creator David Lynch basically left the show after the network forced them to reveal who killed Laura Palmer, which in his mind was a mystery that was never supposed to be solved until the end of the show. And once he left the people writing and directing turned the show into way too much of an actual soap opera. But Lynch returned for the last few episodes of season 2, which were kino. And then season 3 is fricking amazing, but very different in tone from the first two seasons because Lynch basically doesn't hold back anymore with the weirdness. But if you liked the weirdest parts of the first two seasons you should like season 3.

Everyone agrees season 1 is kino along with the first half of season 2. I actually enjoyed all of Season 2 quite a lot but there’s a ~8 episode stretch where not much that is relevant to the overall plot happens.

FWWM is a big tone shift that confused the frick out of boomers but it’s necessary for setting up The Return, which is the most kino season to ever air on television.

There's not much to understand. The plot doesn't always make sense. What keeps you there is how nicely shot it is, the sense, feeling if you will, that the show gives and the soundtrack. Like I already said it easily has the best cast of hot women in one TV show. Whoever cast them had great taste.

Story is largely irrelevant, a guy who can tell a story nicely can make the most mundane of events into something people will laugh at while a boring moron like you would be a chore to listen no matter what you say.

>production issues in Season 2 with Lynch not around, still story elements that play into what comes next
>Diary of Laura Palmer & Cooper audiobook tapes as well

These have influence bearing on the story:

>Strange Angel (Jack Parsons series)
>Moonchild, Aleister Crowley

>Or is it just an eternal mystery?

Despite Lynch's blue sky thinking "dream logic", there's a cut and dried story there; room for interpration makes it evergreen. Frost's contributions are more explicit mythopoetic interpretive threads to pull, and are just as necessary to appreciating the whole shebang (which the longass theory video deliberately omitted). If you're not filtered by the 'pace' of The Return, you'll love it. We're not talking bloated trash editing like some 'atmospheric' A24 shit attempting cargo cult versions of Herzog & Haneke. It serves a purpose.

>there's no overarching plot

There's a class of people on Cinemaphile that cant into poetry and live for vicarious slice of life exposition in novel characters with more interest and quantum of subjectivity than the consumer reading it themselves; there are endless analogues of this. There's plenty story
just not for (you)
Incommesurability of taste is a good thing.

It is an eternal mystery, yes, most of Lynch's work is. But in case you're wondering, the murder mystery does get resolved.

First season is great, second season drags a lot in the middle but beginning and finale are fantastic. FWWM is probably the best part of the entire series but The Return is up there too.

Reminder that Mark Frost basically ran the entire show and is responsible for 90% of the good parts, and that the idea that Lynch was the genius behind it all is a consequence of Lynch's self-mythologization plus reddit tier revisionist history.

Because you act in wicked ways while playing the part of a good man. It is immoral to lie and to wish bad things upon others.

I always wonder how much the persistent schizos on each board are just multiple people putting on the mask and playing the character

have a nice day evil scum

>production issues in Season 2 with Lynch not around, still story elements that play into what comes next

There's plenty story
just not for (you)
Incommesurability of taste is a good thing.

>it's supposed to be bad
>it's poetic
Wow, making shit TV is truly art
