Dude has major mommy issues, mother presumably died when he was a kid and his sister took care of him. Likes to get pampered like he's a little child, she gives him poisonous mushrooms in just small enough doses to make him bedridden, but not kill him and he goes along with it because it reminds him of how his mother used to look after him when he was a kid.
i think it's more about the girl trying to be in control of him for a short time, when he's in control the rest of the time, she feels useless to him.
he went along with it at the end out of love for her.

you're both right. it's a story about true love. both characters are flawed but willingly understand and engage in what the other needs.

He also constantly "falls in love" with women, uses them as models and then dumps them. This was also her way of not being dumped.
Why the last movie of this mf was this bullshit? The last actor that knew how to make a fricking character decided to end his career on a forgettable movie
It seems like a movie that was supposed to have the feel of a casino/goodfellas movies, but upon editing, scorcese realised it didnt work and had to edit it more conventionally, but didnt have the material for it. And then it ended up like this thing halfway between both. In all honesty, he shouldnt have directed it at all, only produced it.
It's just so oddly edited at times, I remember it even bothered me when I saw it when I was 13. I really enjoyed the setting and performances from DDL, but it felt so disjointed at times, especially towards the climax of the movie.
>studio meddling >martin scorsese
I dont think you're aware how much weight his name carries. That would like making the claim that studios meddle with steve spielberg movies. He made a film that wasnt his best work, I like the film, but it's frustrating as it could have been so much more than it ended up being.

He has spoken about Shutter Island being his last studio film because he couldn't stand working with them anymore. Also, they wanted Departed characters to live for a sequel but he wouldn't do it.
I think that’s one of the big strengths of the movie, she is not especially attractive so his attachment to her comes from other desires. It makes their love feel more authentic and intriguing
Louis CK gives a pretty good explanation https://youtu.be/S7kzZoZA-4k?si=oE7ii9HQxnBQB3Sr
it's basically about how when you're in love you're essentially at the other person's mercy and how you kill parts of yourself to be with them
>lol women are le epic destructive (and lovable) only greatness can endure it (and extend from it), you wanna be great right?
wtf I love women's base instincts now
Maya Rudolph must be such a dirty slag anal bawd. PTA openly loves porn, does coke and writes about mutually abusive successful relationships. And their marriage is seemingly fine
Its because she has a primal need to nurture him back to health and he is okay with it for some reason. The idea is relationships are all a bit pathological like this. Still a mid movie because you don't see any of his autistic obsession with dresses, their relationship is unconvincing, all you see is them eat breakfast and irritate each other for the whole movie.
to mother him

the two arent mutually exclusive

Imagine not banging your femdom sister and instead shagging basic b***h models
This movie and The Master are unusually intelligent. They mog most other American movies of the past several years.
Intelligent? but how? Could you elaborate.
No.
he was definitely gay, right?

It's a masterpiece
>PTA
>forgettable
Pick one.
I watched In The Name of the Father recently
it was kino
should rewatch Gang of New York
Gangs of New York gets a lot of hate that I just don't understand
Without DDL it would have fallen flat on it's face. Cameron Diaz was a terrible casting choice.

It was a big Hollywood movie for him and the studio more than likely tampered with his original vision, so he lost focus while making it. It’s a shame

Go back to watching Aquaman 2
If she doesn't give him the mushrooms he dumps her.
They couldn't cast an actress that fit into a size 0 or 00? Why did they cast that mid pig?

They are both fricked up weirdos
PTA is a hack.
this movie sucked so much dick its unreal
>hurrr im a dress maker and im angry and a perfectionist i love you btw
no one cares homosexual
Funny. I was thinking to myself, I wonder if I'll see a DDL movie on Cinemaphile. Here it is. What a coincidence
