Otto paid the crazy sailor to tell the police about the fox lady so she could be hunted down, and he personally sent his robots to get Unicorn. He clearly was up to something.

I think structurally this is probably the best episode since the first two. There's no point where the pacing is so fricked or there's something off with the writing that pulled me out of the story and made me say "What the hell"

I love how in th Q&A Genndy said he couldn’t imagine handling more than 4 main characters at once (plus Merlin) and yet he added Winston to the team and it worked out great. If anything I’m sad he’s only doing this now, I could have done with this group for more than 2 episodes.

This was the first episode I genuinely enjoyed. They finally started talking about the questions that I've been wondering since the beginning. Re-introducing Winston and forcing Edred to interact with him was fun stuff. I liked how Winston was more excited than upset about the werewolf curse, and he could see the opportunities in it. And Edred for once actually acknowledged Emma and her wishes, but it was solely for the purpose of upsetting Winston.

This really caught me by surprise. I was expecting at least a little angst, even if he wasn't going to go full beast mode and be a true antagonist.
But I keep remembering Genndy saying that he went out of his way to remove cliches from the original pitch. It seems like every time you expect the show to follow some established formula, Genndy has intentionally tweaked things ever-so-slightly to be "original."
Since certain parties have seemed to pipe down I'll chime in a bit on Winston
To which I mean I haven't found his character path unpleasant, in fact I'm quite enjoying it. Of course, his mannerisms might seem overly foolish or flippant, but I see it as being genuinely in service of the narrative
Yes, he's not taking things seriously and that's the point. His obsessive pursuit of Emmalinda in spite of all dangers is bad, it's causing him to remain willfully blind to the Melinda half of their equation, much as Edred has done trying to pretend Emma doesn't exist. All of her concerns are going in one ear and out the other
And this werewolf business is just making it worse. He's seeing the whole affair as if Emma had simply stepped outside into a rainstorm, and all he needed was a raincoat for him to join her and have all be well. His lycanthropy is just that, and it's manifested in him actually comprehending the whole of the situation even less, and prompting him to step up his antagonizing of Edred instead of focusing on the myriad dangers they were facing
what I like about Winston is that his motivations remain unchanged, but the context changes. The most telling line was >NO! No! I can't give up! Emma needs me!
Spoken from his history, this is probably true - he has been Emma's rock and protector her whole life, and now that she is in trouble, he wants to be their either to support her or rescue her. However, he wasn't able to do so since she is now magic and having magic adventures with kraken, elves, and men who don't wear shoes. So, now that he is a werewolf, he views this power as a way that is "back in the game" so to speak - he can now be her functional protector again. However, Emmalinda doesn't need his help and it would be more helpful if he did nothing. But that's the one thing he can't do, because >Emma needs ME.
He views himself as the only one who can fill that role.
Given that it was June who went to check on them, and that Otto didn't seem aware of Copernicus' existence until after he was broken, I think she just borrowed them for her own activities

Unless I'm misremembering, all we've seen besides London is the Elf Kingdom (elves usually don't frick with tech) and some jungle in India. Its very likely we'll get to see other cool steampunk cities.
I actually hope Winston doesn't join Unicorn because I can only handle him and Edred in small doses, even if they agree to put aside their differences you know that shit is just going to hang over interaction. Even THEY will feel it. And I think it's dumb to add a fifth member when fricking Seng/Alfie have gotten practically no attention.
Monks serve the role of guiding the team and being the ones keeping it together. This character serves that role. And for this story that already has an intense love triangle and characters with identity crisis, someone needs to be the anchor. Copernicus can only do so much without speaking.

I think it's just optional flavor that sometimes pops up in werewolf stories. It's most likely meant to make Winston's powers more situational than they already are.

I think structurally this is probably the best episode since the first two. There's no point where the pacing is so fricked or there's something off with the writing that pulled me out of the story and made me say "What the hell"

This was the first episode I genuinely enjoyed. They finally started talking about the questions that I've been wondering since the beginning. Re-introducing Winston and forcing Edred to interact with him was fun stuff. I liked how Winston was more excited than upset about the werewolf curse, and he could see the opportunities in it. And Edred for once actually acknowledged Emma and her wishes, but it was solely for the purpose of upsetting Winston.

This really caught me by surprise. I was expecting at least a little angst, even if he wasn't going to go full beast mode and be a true antagonist.
But I keep remembering Genndy saying that he went out of his way to remove cliches from the original pitch. It seems like every time you expect the show to follow some established formula, Genndy has intentionally tweaked things ever-so-slightly to be "original."
Since certain parties have seemed to pipe down I'll chime in a bit on Winston
To which I mean I haven't found his character path unpleasant, in fact I'm quite enjoying it. Of course, his mannerisms might seem overly foolish or flippant, but I see it as being genuinely in service of the narrative
Yes, he's not taking things seriously and that's the point. His obsessive pursuit of Emmalinda in spite of all dangers is bad, it's causing him to remain willfully blind to the Melinda half of their equation, much as Edred has done trying to pretend Emma doesn't exist. All of her concerns are going in one ear and out the other
And this werewolf business is just making it worse. He's seeing the whole affair as if Emma had simply stepped outside into a rainstorm, and all he needed was a raincoat for him to join her and have all be well. His lycanthropy is just that, and it's manifested in him actually comprehending the whole of the situation even less, and prompting him to step up his antagonizing of Edred instead of focusing on the myriad dangers they were facing
what I like about Winston is that his motivations remain unchanged, but the context changes. The most telling line was
>NO! No! I can't give up! Emma needs me!
Spoken from his history, this is probably true - he has been Emma's rock and protector her whole life, and now that she is in trouble, he wants to be their either to support her or rescue her. However, he wasn't able to do so since she is now magic and having magic adventures with kraken, elves, and men who don't wear shoes. So, now that he is a werewolf, he views this power as a way that is "back in the game" so to speak - he can now be her functional protector again. However, Emmalinda doesn't need his help and it would be more helpful if he did nothing. But that's the one thing he can't do, because

He views himself as the only one who can fill that role.

Emma and Melinda's conflict drove the entire first half of the season, Alfie looks nothing like Seng and is clearly a lot more childish than him, but Dimitri just looks like a younger Edred and we haven't been given any reason to think that his awakening was significantly flawed, beyond giving him cloudy memories.
