A bit of a cop out, but I'll allow it
Is that Elmer Fudd?
Is his mom
I knew OP's pic was reminding me of someone. It's funny because I'm pretty sure Stephen DeStefano worked on the recent Looney Tunes shorts.
Can we accurately say the artstyle is more Stephen DeStefano than Genndy?
Definitely, I think he's the only character designer/layout artist working on the show. Pic related is the only poster from the show I've seen that looks like it was drawn by Genndy.
IIRC DeStefano also drew the pic you posted
There has been one other character designer credited, but as a freelancer relegated to an "additional character designer" credit: Bryan Arnett (prior character design credits include MLaaTR, Mighty B, Ricky Gervais Show, WoY, Rudish Mickey, and The Mighty Ones) helping out with episode 3
Genndy is not an artist he’s mostly a director. In Dexters Lab it was mostly Craig McCracken who designed the characters.
?
There's a WB short with a caveman and Daffy I think and he dies by blowing up a fake duck.
how'd they get away with this?
Genndy lit a copy of the Hays Code on fire in the board room while pitching the show
>wear fine robes
>dress child in rags
wtf was their problem?
She's a rambunctious troublemaker, you know she's absolutely destroy any fine clothing you gave her
Hell, that probably WAS a decent outfit originally and the rags are just what's left after a week of Melinda'ing
Somebody getting fired for this blunder
Of course an anon was that focused on the child’s feet
>Melinda got gout as a kid
Merlin is just a real piece of shit.
She can get rid of it when she learns the right spell
It's a teaching incentive
Kids can't actually get gout that young, right?
She's like an Asterix character
>they look vaguely like this style in a certain way so it’s good design!
This excuse didn’t work by comparing the eyes to Cyborg 009 but that flopped once people who actually read it told you guys you were full of shit. Just because it looks kinda like something else you like if you squint hard enough doesn’t make it good. The characters are weird clashes of designs that are horrible. Emma suffers the worst of it with her FAS head, falling off lips and now her emo Elmer Fudd baby appearance.
As much as Cinemaphile complains about things referencing other things, they seem to love it when things they like specifically are referenced.
Goddamn, I’ve loved pretty much every Genndy show up until this point. I just can’t bring myself to like this no matter how hard I try. I love the concept but the execution is pretty bad in a lot of ways. Was it butchered in post? Is Genndy just assuming he will get more seasons for an actual plot later?
>5 word post that's is probably just a joke about how the art style
>autistic/schizo rant
Holy frick, clean your diapers your fricking loon.
Thanks for the copypasta
Rewatching the first ep in light of the reveal, was it Morgana's voice that Melinda heard when she destroyed a form of the great evil at the beginning?
That would be my assumption, yeah. It'd be weird to have ANOTHER twist where there's an entirely separate entity in there besides Morgan
>after all these years some slip of your mother's sentience remains within the mindless monster you're tasked to kill
why not? what's a bit more psychological damage between family?
someone post the mega links and everyone else stop acting like gays from Cinemaphile
The last thread is literally still there. Look it up.

thank you

Thankyou
Thanks bro
That's the same MEGA this whole time; I've just got it bookmarked. Anon updates it promptly after the adult swim stream.

Oh, it's your obnoxious ass again.
hi, nice to see you again. gone and fricked yourself yet? if not, please do.

>How do you look into MY memories, person whose body I stole on their wedding day whose existence I'm constantly trying to subdue!
God Melinda is such a b***h
So she hijacks bodies just to fight with her mother for eternity? And dragged her elf boyfriend and a chinaman into it?
>It's all Merlin's fault
Somehow I'm not surprised.
>Merlin
is her his wife who is to blame
he also get mad at Emma for causing this, but she didn't do anything
DID he blame Melinda? I thought the “what have you done” was aimed at Emma
Although I’m not really sure how literally we’re supposed to take the whole thing. Did Emma really travel back in time and affect the way things went down or was it more of a Prey 2017 situation where Melinda’s memories were simulating an encounter with her past self?
>is her his wife who is to blame
Hi Merlin.
He was lying to Morgan about dangerous magic possessing their daughter and telling their daughter to lie about it too. How was Morgan in the wrong in trying to save Melinda?
I guess the sticker is Merlin makes a pretty hard accusation against Morgan saying she has some kind of bad intentions but never actually gives us any clue about what those might be and why he seemingly didn't make any effort to keep her away from Melinda
I hate sharing a board with so many people who can't even type right.

Between witches and elves and robots and werewolves and steampunk cities and spirit dimensions and all the other stuff this world doesn’t feel super cohesive
Silence nerd
So it's a Gennedy show?
Just like the old Samurai Jack days
>muh wurldbuddiling
guuuhh what is the statute on magik tho?
>Turn of the century occultism and folklore doesn't feel cohesive
Enter, AWOOnston
I’ll admit, a plot turn hasn’t really hit me like this in a good long while
I was not expecting something like that even in my wildest theories
What a fricking wild direction for him. I was worried he'd be abandoned in the first few eps. Now he's a fricking werewolf.
I popped back to check because I thought I was hearing notes of Darlington in younger Merlin, and yeah they're both voiced by Jeremy Crutchley
I discovered some other interesting bits though. Apparently the Boat Werewolf was also voiced by Jeremy and is named Lawrence. This is interesting because it made me consider that he might end up coming back later if they gave him a proper real name. Like perhaps they'll have to quest to find him in the hopes of curing Winston (hopefully it works on Chipmunks rules where they just have to simul-bite each other and they'll both be cured instead of having to kill him)
Also of note, if I'm not misunderstanding, the Fox is actually named June Way. Which is actually really mundane, lol
Googling that overwhelmingly brings up streets and such so I don't know if there's any cultural reference there, but regardless I guess June the Fox it is!
Ooh, good catch anon. I never would've thought twice to look at the voice credits for this episode, I'm very surprised to see the name of the patient zero wolfman- so I have a feeling you may be right that he may return. Didn't think the name of the fox would've been revealed at this point either, is 'June Way' a potential reference to anything? It sounds too specific of a name.
>June Way
Cute. Also sounds like an alias.
>June Way
>June Wayne
>John Wayne
no wonder why she mauled on Alfie
I still can't pinpoint what the internal logic is as to why Melinda is sleek and angular at some points but reverts to Betty Boop style in others. Like I know it's an intentional stylistic thing but not sure what is meant to trigger it.
raise your IQ bro
Sometimes she isn't in her host, the Betty Boop looking lady. That is about it
Okay, enjoy your delusions.
and you keep an eye out for the fbi, they'll catch you eventually!
All stand for the flag please.
Lol how the frick was this made? is it automatic or the guy painstakingly animated the keybones frame by frame?
>painstakingly animated the keybones frame by frame
That is extremely funny to imagine but it's not, it was made using this website https://makesweet.com/my/blue-sky-flag
Very interesting
Good morning, I hate Win*ton
t.smurf
>Knife ears mad
>Literally has WIN in his name
Not my flag
We're never gonna get an episode where Edred interacts with the chad Dmitri are we
We must keep hope alive
FRICK that bumper was BALLIN though
Hail Morgana, the hottest lady in UWE!
"Cute bird nosed goth mommy Morgan le Fay" certainly wasn't on my bingo card for this show, but I'm also not complaining.
A shame she's there and gone so quickly, though.
Was glad she was barefoot despite being shown wearing shoes a frame earlier
>The evil comes from Melinda
>Morgana is either dead or incorporeal and manifests as weird monsters
>The fox works for her
So really the final conflict is going to be between Emma with the other warriors and Melinda.
>E1: Emma gets bodysnatched and struggles with her identity
>E2: Picks up the rest of the gang, Emmalinda still struggles with her identity and feels bad that unleashing her powers hurt people
>E3: Emmalinda struggles with her identity and feels bad that unleashing her powers hurt
people
>E4: Emmalinda struggles with her identity and feels bad that unleashing her powers hurt
people, this time on a boat
>E5 out of 10: Emmalinda struggles with her identity, but this time in a flashback sequence with exposition
MAKE IT STOP
I'm so annoyed I forgot how to greentext
>It's ashe. The bonus season you didn't know you wanted.
I don't understand the reference
I noticed that the chaotic purple and black power didn't go wholly to either Morgan or Melinda, but seems split between them
I wonder if that's the sticking piece. They've been fighting her corrupted form, but Morgan will be a problem forever unless they can find a way to exorcise the purple-black from her, and probably from Melinda as well
The Morgan-Melinda struggle was confusing to me. Morgan was trying to steal Melinda's black power, but Melinda overpowered her and stole Morgan's physical form, leaving only the wild green power?
No, I think the purple magic just has a rudimentary predatory instinct and saw a chance to infest a new host. We don't know why Melinda seemed to handle it fine, but something about Morgan's powers/mind/whatever clearly left her open to being overwhelmed and taken over by it
If Morgan's mind was taken over by the purple magic, then why isn't her magic purple? Why is Melinda still in full control of it?
Morgan seems to have had a fusion between her own magic and Melinda's. It's not just the black stuff, which we've seen can be tame enough even in a child's hands
I think Morgan's forceful intentions reflected on the unstable black magic and caused it to assume a wilder and hostile form
Essentially, it's not just the black magic that made Morgan evil, it's the black magic being gunpowder that Morgan's power lit, and she's been engulfed by the flame
I see. I wonder if the solution then is to suck the black magic out of Morgan and Melinda. Merlin really needs to come out of hiding now; there are no other mages available to handle this.
Morgan might be beyond saving at this point but yeah removing the black magic from them and putting it out of reach for anyone else seems like the only way to end the cycle
I wonder if that's the real twist, that Merlin is unwilling to put Morgan out of her misery and so induced the Unicorn warriors to fight her for eternity
Again with these bad Merlin theories, the snag comes with Seng and how you'd think he would object to such plans
Until we know what he knows, I guess motivations of some will remain a mystery
>Merlin is unwilling to put Morgan out of her misery and so induced the Unicorn warriors to fight her for eternity
I think he believes Melinda fighting her mother for eternity is a just punishment for her.
You're right, Seng should have foreseen a positive ending, but now even that ending has changed Seng claims. So many questions still...
It looked to me like Melinda's power has a mind of it's own and somehow fused with Morgana, creating something even worse. Like a Dark Danny situation.
The expanded the scope TREMENDOUSLY with this episode
I'm really struggling to envision how they could wrap this all up in just five episodes and now I'm vigorously praying that the behind the scenes workings actually resulted in a multi-season deal for Unicorn, not just a miniseries because holy frick they've gotta deal with all of Emma's personal bagge, and that of the rest of the Unicorn Warriors, Winston and his SURPRISE LYCANTHROPY, sorting out the Fox, corrupted Morgan, and probably some resolution with Merlin for good measure
That's a lot
Like a LOT
Gennedy has said he has plans for more seasons so I really am not expecting them to wrap up everything.
>Melinda blurts out "Yeah lol I used my magic!" without a moment's hesitation or any additional prodding by her mother
There's only so far the "children are moronic" excuse can take the writing. You'd think if keeping Melinda's magic a secret is this important then Merlin would've drilled it into her skull to never tell Mommy.
You're not wrong but I'll still excuse it because she's extra worked up over meeting Emma and everything else that happened leading up
Kids forget themselves and do that shit all the time though especially around Melinda's age. It's very believable.
Was it intended to be as ugly as humanly possible? Is it some sort of weird attempt at turpism?
Westerners can't into art
first goth betty boop and now goth elmyra... whats next goth lisa simpson?
the episode advanced the plot about a planck unit why were there a bunch of people sucking genndy's dick in all capital letters last thread?
Werewolf Winston hype, homieaaaaa~
great, more yaoiwulf gays in the thread, just like Deth Streyttup from the ansiedad gato
Look at what they did to my boy
>I HATE ELVES! I HATE ELVES!
What zero boop does to a mf
Werewolves are cringe
They turned my favorite character into furbait, I don’t like this show anymore
Then he clearly wasn't actually your favorite character in the first place
Yea, it devalues his character
I really hope that “I’ve been infected by a force I don’t like and I cannot control. I now have to learn to accept that it is a part of me and deal with my new self and my new life as best I can” will help him relate to Emma better. And not push him further away into “Now I’m on two quests to cure the both of us” territory.
Oh! I hadn't considered that angle yet
Imagine if the scenario was flipped on its head and suddenly it was Winston trying to push Emma away because he feared being a danger to her, until he finally comprehends the middle path between the extremes
That sounds like a very good solution to the "Winston just doesn't seem to get it" problem
>They turned my favorite character into furbait, I love this show more now.
I think another anon was right when they said making it bodysnatching instead of reincarnation was a mistake. If it was the latter there'd be a pretty understandable and interesting question posed, where it's the same soul that's in a constant cycle of losing/regaining memories and having to struggle with who they really are at the time. With the bodysnatching I just think all the unicorns warriors are buttholes and want them to leave Emma and my man Dmitri alone.
>bodysnatching instead of reincarnation
What's the difference? Seriously, at a functional level.
Reincarnation = same soul
Bodysnatching = one soul overriding another
Reincarnation would mean that something magical triggers you to remember all of your past lives along with your current one. If that happened, you'd have an identity crisis until you can form a coherent self-image again. Eventually your past and current identities would merge into an amalgamation of all your lives.
Bodysnatching is what this show is doing. The protagonists physically transform their host bodies and overwrite/replace their minds with their own identities. The individual who functions as the host body gets suppressed, and the protags don't acknowledge the host's identity or worth at all. Edred just wants Emma to frick off so he can have Melinda.
Something went wrong with their bodysnatching. At this moment, Emmalinda seems to remember barely anything about either Emma's or Melinda's lives. I have no idea why she trusts any of the Unicorn guys, and Copernicus in particular. He fricked up her wedding, gave her an identity crisis, and sent her to fight evil against her will.
>I have no idea why she trusts any of the Unicorn guys, and Copernicus in particular. He fricked up her wedding, gave her an identity crisis, and sent her to fight evil against her will.
Her memories have blended into her personality, she clearly still cares about Winston from her identity as Emma but the Melinda within her is the one probably feeling very distraught for Copernicus.
She trusts Copernicus for the same reason we as the audience trust Copernicus: He’s cute.
Also when he was the only person she could turn to for answers, he tried his very best to help her and do everything she asked of him, and in the most gentlemanly way a mute robot could.
The fact that Winston is hardly ever shown in the promos is peculiar. They likely want to keep his little adventures a surprise each episode but its interesting to think about seeing how he's ended up being a recurring character. The fact that he's a god damn werewolf now heats things up so I do wonder the extent his situation will go. He'll probably show up in episode 6 to frick shit up, but I can't imagine the context of it at this point.
Fox/June finds him, uses her magic to control him and either tries to send him after the team (despite knowing he probably can't do shit to them) or otherwise tries to use him as leverage against Emma's persona, since she acknowledges Emmalinda as the greatest threat of them all
So instead of a reanimated corpse June gets an oversized attack dog, seems much more of a proper threat really.
>reanimated corpse
Ah, I remember when people were adamant that Winston was dead by the end of the second episode
I wonder if someone had genuinely leaked the plots for the first five episodes in during the premier, would anyone have even believed them when they got to "and then Winston is attacked and turned into a werewolf"
The premiere and promo material showed that elves, unicorns, wizards and other magic stuff exist in-universe. Werewolves don't seem that far-fetched.
Still, I probably would've assumed that Winston gets targeted and turned by The Evil because of his relationship with Emma; not because he just coincidentally happens to stumble on some random werewolf out in the sea. Since humans in this series don't even believe that supernatural creatures exist, those things must be rare and unlikely to encounter in this setting.
>out of the thousands of girls in London, his gets zapped into witch
>out of the vast endless ocean and thousands of ships at sea, he stumbles on the one with the werewolf
I wanna see how much more unlucky he can get.
what's his power level?
he can beat Sir Kay in a fight
The most thought provoking bit about this teaser is the suddenly appearing cake
>inspector enters church
>[scene edited out for time where inspector finds and picks up wedding cake]
>Fox Lady jumps on his head
Doesn’t seem too complicated.
Is it the same one? Looks quite a bit more dilapidated and didn't Emmalinda already break the big window when she flew out the first time?
Seems weird that Inspector and Fox Lady would be investigating a different church, at least. Or that a different church would have a cake in it (it’s actually pretty weird for a wedding cake to be in a church at all, but hey, who can account for alternate timeline steampunk english customs?).
It might look so dilapidated just because of the mood lighting and Emmelinda smashing shit and the sudden presumably panicked guests hastily evacuating. And I suppose Genndy gave it more than one round glass window just so he could do the shot where a flying lady smashes through it a second time.
Given his wording, I think people see the Fox run into this abandoned church she’s been using as a hideout, he doesn’t believe in the existence of such a thing but the cops arrive anyway and bust in (hence his flippant line about her fixing the door with magic). Then they actually encounter each other and the scuffle we see ensues
I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same church but somehow the location looks different from what it looked like earlier. Genndy shows have featured continuity errors before. This one has them too. If you watch the scene where Emma flies away from the church, there's a brief shot where Winston seemingly vanishes or teleports. He's supposed to be on the stairs right in front of Emma, but he's not there in the shot where Emma flies up and smashes the window.
Rewatched some, and Emma definitely breaks a big window that is above the pulpit which the pews face toward, while June flies through a round one that is above the entrance that the pews face away from, on the opposite side of the church. Makes sense that they’d have round windows on both sides opposite to one another.
Though, interestingly, I don’t think we ever see a round window above the church entrance in episode 1. It could still be there but always out of shot if it’s very high up.
Analyzing this so closely really hammers home the parallels and contrasts between the scenes.
>Melinda
>Melin-da
>Merlin-dad
I need the next episode NOW
The most recent ep was very plot heavy, anon. You need a few days to digest.
Oh wait, wait, I get it
You're not strokeposting, you're just a gay
Genndy really spent a whole lot of this episode's time focusing on a little girl's feet and ass.
So did you
She looks like Elmer Fudd. Thank god her vastly hotter mother was also introduced, now watch as she gets zero fanart but we get more drawings of the fox with elephantitis.
>focusing on a little girl's feet
Always been into that since his early years.
So, are there animatic pitches for the episodes like with Primal?
I need my Genndy narration w/ sound effects
did any one in these threads remember that, historically, Merlin is suppose to life his life backwards through time?
Aye, that very version (adjacently, through The Once and Future King) was brought up specifically when talking about how Merlin is often associated with time travel
I fricking hate wizards so damn much
There always a evil ex wife .
Women are evil
Emmelinda was trying to lick everything this episode.
Ah crap now I can't unsee it.
Why are her lips so ugly oh my god
yet another reason why adult Melinda is superior
I feel like Melinda was drawn first before Genndy' decided on the rubber hose artstyle. Because you're all right, she does look slightly out of place.
>mlem
We get it Emma, your DSL game unreal
Wow baby Melinda is even uglier
so this how Seng fit in all this. Merlin studied in monk school or something
Could be how they met. It looks like he can only do it for a limited time so there could be something holding him back from true enlightenment.
>could be something holding him back from true enlightenment
like being a dick in general?
Oh, something as simple as worldly attachment to his daughter and potentially evil wife(?) could put a stop towards cosmic ascension I think
>did you just lie to me? DIE
Why are women like this?
I found her parents.
This whole thing feels like a bad dub. How the frick is dialogue this stilted and VA so phoned in. "You need to do the thing!" "this is my immediate motivation!" "Hamfisted exposition!" like a cutrate animu translation that can't quite get the diction right so doesn't even try. Floaty atonal voice performances like either no one gave a single shit or no one gave the VAs context or direction on how the words fit the visuals to match intensity and tone of the characters to the actors.
Right now, same company/distribution, Villanous is finally being brought to burgerland and after being translated from spanish it has better english voicework and better dialogue writing. And better fight scenes, art design, and a well executed overarching season plot.
Then go post in a Villainous thread
You're a homosexual but I definitely agree something is wrong with how the show is being produced. Primal was nowhere near this sloppy. There are a lot of blatant animation errors like Morgan and Merlin gaining and losing footwear alongside the Fox having extremely inconsistent markings by the frame.
This. Fricking Villanous is doing better than this garbage.
Villainous is also good though
The new episode isn't on the app yet?
it's on mega for me
The past couple of weeks it dropped at around 9:30am I think, so two hours from now.
I really wanted to make all my views legal since I have access to the service anyway, but it just doesn’t work well with my schedule and I end up watching the mega every friday morning anyway.
>The past couple of weeks it dropped at around 9:30am I think, so two hours from now.
Ah... that's so annoying. It's already on demand on cable so that's how I'm watching it now.
this is not how you should speak to your father in law
>”Oh hey Sonny, I see you did the errand I sent you on.”
>You fricker, she’s half dead!!
>”Yeah, but not all dead, so that’s good.”
No, Merlin is still the butthole in that scene.
Do you think he knows the truth about the evil he's fighting?
So in what way does Dimitri cloud Edred's mind? It's pretty obvious how Emma and Alfie are causing problems for Melinda and Seng, but Edred seems mostly fine.
I think the whole flirting thing that happened in episode 4. Must be Russian man’s influence.8J
Makes him even hornier than usual, resulting in literal blue balls as Emma continues to reject him.
Am I the only one who gets 90s cartoon vibes from this series? Reminds me of Gargoyles.
I can see some of those 90s vibes, yeah
What I recall of Gargoyles isn't really giving me points to compare, but I also didn't see much of that one growing up
>booted
That's why he's got two movies in production with them right now? One being Sony's first ever attempt at an adult animated movie?
Anyways whether you like the style or not is entirely your prerogative, and to a sane person I'd say just don't watch it if it isn't doing it for you
Unfortunately I am well aware that you will instead continue obsessively clinging to your insane vendetta instead of moving on
she look like Elmer Fudd in drag
>introduce more plot elements half way through the season
>still haven’t gotten close to resolving anything you introduced before
Holy shit this is like the pacing issues of his other shows x10. It’s like he’s banking on having several seasons in order to tell his story.
>The dapper lads of Scotland Yard throwing down with fox babe next time
Hyped
Throwing down is likely a strong word for it
I think “briskly clowning on” will be more accurate
Team Scotland Yard unironically subduing Fox Lady (June?) when the warriors couldnt all this time would be fricking hilarious
I’d love to see them pull out a steampunk nikola tesla death ray and waste The Evil for good. Just as a frick you to Unicorn.
>Fox does all this magic shit
>Based Detective punks her with a surprise tranquilizer dart
>Our source about enigmatic fox lady ends up being from Detective's interrogation
>tranq dart
>not setting the hounds on her
He’s a british gentleman. He knows how to hunt a fox.
>Send fortune telling dog and Wereston on her ass
Scotland Yard is a lot more competent than the police usually are in cartoons. In spite of not believing in magic and no magic on hand to help, they identify and track their targets pretty efficiently.
I love this Wendy/ Audrey look a like.
https://files.catbox.moe/ekobk3.png
Look I don't dislike Emma, but the story demands that we see more of Melinda and get her opinion on all this craziness. Apparently she knows what's really up and is keeping it from the others. Edred still thinks the Fox is the source so he has no clue.
Seng knows the truth too with his time mastery. Edred is the only one who doesn't know the full story which is going to hurt him badly when he finds out.
>Gendy made good stuff, just not recently.
Yeah his last good show was Dexter
>the koreans were hat in hand after hotel Transylvania was a turkey without him.
What?
>the koreans were hat in hand after hotel Transylvania was a turkey without him. But now Unicorn is a thing.
???
Oh okay it wasn’t just me. You kids are always confusing me, resurrecting old timey slang outta nowhere, so I can never be sure when someone is actually spouting gibberish.
>the koreans were hat in hand after hotel Transylvania was a turkey without him.
U good?
>things that are totally happening
Uh, yes? They showed off a first look of Fixed at Annecy recently
Black Knight has been pretty quiet but that's not terribly surprising
>that’s supposed to be Mario
Right. They based their expectations on a movie that wouldn’t air for years to come
That makes sense
things greenlit several years ago that were supposed to come out now tend to work like that.
I still don't see how the Koreans figure into this.
Ah, I see
Hat in hand is a less common expression akin to "begging"
He was saying Gorean sweatshop animators were dismayed by the drop in commercial performance of the series, as in fear for their jobs
>He was saying Gorean sweatshop animators were dismayed by the drop in commercial performance of the series, as in fear for their jobs
If you're referring to Unicorn, then he should know that it's animated in France and Bulgaria, not the usual sweatshops.
No, no, as his post said, the HT series
And I'm not even sure where those were animated, but Korea seems like a safe bet for a bigger production like those movies and I'm taking his word for it
>gets ousted on HT, causing or using sandler bowing out as an excuse, right after
He didn't get ousted, he left to focus on working with adult swim. He still has screenplay credits.
Does he? I thought he was pretty much hands-off post 3
>he didn't get ousted he just was suddenly not the director, or executive producer, or lead writer, then stopped working for them
at the time it was 100% a kick out the door and openly performance based. As Gendy I wouldn't trust Sony to not balk at the first opportunity and as Sony I wouldn't be betting so much on getting a Primal instead of a Popeye.
>at the time it was 100% a kick out the door
What's your rationale here?
It's not like I'm unwilling to believe Sony "we happily shoved out the Emoji Movie" Pictures could be fricktards like that, but still what are you basing this on?
>at the time it was 100% a kick out the door and openly performance based.
Source?
Did Merlin do some frickery with Melinda's memory when she passed out after that first prologue fight? You'd think she might have had more of a reaction to possibly hearing her mother's voice in the Evil, something like "maybe she can still be helped"
That might have been her next thought she was going to express to Edred after she said “I heard…someone.” But she was too beat up to continue, and also got interrupted.
Personally, I was wondering if she had experienced memory frickery at some point, but if that were the case then it seems a little odd that Melinda/Emmelinda shows absolutely no surprise when she is reprimanding Emma for rooting around her memory. She seems perfectly aware of this memory and only concerned that Emma is invading it. If she were amnestic for over one thousand years, this should be a grand reveal to her.
There must be memory frickery because Melinda doesn't go all You! at Emma during the seance. Emma is strong enough apparently to resist her control so Melinda could think Emma has enough control to pull a reverse and access Melinda's memories too.
I interpreted the episode not as Emma literally going to the linear past and always having been the thing that fricked over Morgan et al, but as Emma being inserted into a memory that probably happened almost the same way “the first time” without her presence. Whether or not the past has “changed” and Emma was there now, or if Emma was in some kinda dream is inconsequential.
But we know from Seng’s “the future has changed” line that at the very least, there is no one solid destiny timeline.
A “dream” makes he most sense to me as well. I don’t think Emma pulled some Bran Stark shit, rather she tapped into her and Melinda’s blended mind and a dreamlike replay happened while they were knocked out by kraken punch
Only trouble with that is Alfseng looks for her but can’t find her, saying “she’s not here,” meaning he can’t see her consciousness in reality/the present. But I suppose her being “away” in Dreamland makes as much sense as her being away in Time.
Indeed
And then Merlin says she's not actually in the past either
There being an additional realm composed of dreams that may or may not bridge time and space doesn't seem out of the question for this world
>realm...
>that may or may not bridge time and space
>Dimitri is sent to the cornfield
>If Unicorn and it's art style was a middle finger/"look what you missed out on" directed at Sony
It wasn't, Genndy literally studied under a Flesicher animator.
>oof.
God you're a gay.
choosing the style for 30% of the characters feels like seethe, not hackery, but if you want to say it's the latter no ones going to stop you.
>choosing the style for 30% of the characters feels like seethe, not hackery
Seems more like a stylistic choice that you're looking way too deep into.
On a lark requesting this with Edred and Alfie
Looks more like another Edred and Winston piece.
Thought crossed my mind, I just think it’d be funnier if it were two of the primary team and Edred being unpleasant like that is incongruous and thus adds to the joke
Or even Edred and Winston could work, I suppose
What's he saying to Edred?
>
10/10
Winston so smug he can denigrate the racial background of a people whose existence he won't even believe in
I kneel
Its good to be a Winstonlad.
We just can't stop winning
I was wondering how you were going to account for the height difference and if it would look like Winston was standing on a box, and I like how Edred looks hunched over and dejected.
Thanks, I was going to have Winston come out of the right like in the original image and have Edred standing but the idea of him with his shoulders all hunched up was much funnier to me.
This just sounds like you're making up bizarre fanfiction to justify your hateboner for this show.
dating yourself as not being around for when it happened. The whole storyboard print and full VA leaked after the movie was cancelled and Gendy out at Sony. People were really surprised it was his work considering Primal was going strong because it is very similar to what you see here.
>Not meaning the boomerart
I was there you moron. The fanfiction I'm referring to is you insisting the Popeye animation was shit it cost Genndy his position and Unicorn is some sort of revenge fantasy.
You don't have to like the art style but you don't need to be a homosexual about it.
>the movie that would have been millions into pre production, fully written, fully storyboarded, fully VA'd, getting cancelled to never see the light of day and the creator "going on to new opportunities" instead of working on their properties he's associated with isn't being fired
Is this really something that needs to be correcttherecord'd? He has new project with them, for now, and it was clearly them crawling back. Whatever the reasoning it's unfortunate Unicorn was the vehicle for every third character to be a Fleisher "reference" and break the visual fidelity of the art style. If it's there just because no one told him to or could make him stop fricking around, that's bad.
>If it's there just because no one told him to or could make him stop fricking around, that's bad.
And you're free to think that. Sometimes the truth is simpler than we imagine it, rather than the grand conspiracy we think up.
Eh at any rate I think both parties have turned a corner, and if they're willing to work together again, then so be it, and all the better if the movies are good
>"These two companies that have made some bad passes at each other seem to be on good terms now, that's cool"
>"[Inarticulate screeching]"
Yep, lol
>episodes are no longer released on hbo max worldwide because for the US they’re on MAX
What a disaster
I don't quite understand
MAX is not available in my country and the new episode is streaming on MAX, not HBO Max. See:
https://twitter.com/AnimationOnMax/status/1662083705014288384
For the countries that don't have the new streaming service available, the show has only up to episode 4. They've not put the newest episode yet.
Adding item #93372648 to the list of ways WBD are fricking moronic
You can access the mega though, right? Give it a legitimate watch when the corpos unfrick their shit
>You can access the mega though, right? Give it a legitimate watch when the corpos unfrick their shit
Yeah, I watched it thanks to the MEGA. Now I'm gonna make an extra effort to watch the episodes live now that I know I can't count on the streaming site anymore.
>the new episode is streaming on MAX
It isn't...
seems to be up (at least in Norway)
lmao, THAT'S the thumbnail for episode 5?
They know who the audience is looking for
I'm pretty sure you made that up
>Winston is a werewolf
>Emmalinda is a white woman
If anything, he now has an extra advantage over Edred
Funniest post on the thread.
oh my god
I only hope this is the last collaboration between Genndy and La Cachette animation studio. Not that there aren't any other issues with this show besides animation.
>I only hope this is the last collaboration between Genndy and La Cachette animation studio.
Why?
I'm not a fan of how this show is being animated. I lack the technicalities and the knowledge of the words to properly pinpoint my problems with it, but I'll leave it at with a simple "looks cheap".
I cannot personally agree (beyond a general "sure, things could always be better") but I respect your own preferences, presented reasonably as they are
Have you any knowledge of alternatives you would rather he work with?
Never got the feeling it looked cheap. It's choppy at times but apparently that's how Genndy rolls nowadays.
Don't put words in my post. I have my fair shake of issues with La Cachette and how they handle Genndy shows, and it has nothing to do with sociopolitical shit you're obsessed with.
He's just trying to stir shit. Good on you for actually rebuking him, I was wondering if he was actually samegayging his own posts.
What issues do you have with La Cachette?
>linking to a twitter screencap thread
If it were not for the barriers between us I would slay you where you slouch
Ah.
I guess I can agree in the sense that its often choppier than I would like. I do remember Primal had animation errors, especially with the arrows disappearing and reappearing.
Though, when you look at some other productions like Legend of Vox Machina where the monsters are cgi because the animators don't know how to draw them, suddenly Unicorn and Primal look way better.
That isnt to play whataboutism, La Cachette has their flaws, but I think they have their strengths compared to the competition too.
If I wanted to look at some moronic twitter post, I'd have clicked on that thread and not ctrl+shift
Eat shit
I dunno, try reporting it if you want it gone. I'm not particularly interested either way, I just don't want it dragged into here
>reporting
I've actually tried that with the schizos here. The fact that they still come to shit up threads tells you what you need to know.
Even if mods get rid of them, they just reset their IP.
Even so, we had a Loona schizo in the helluva boss threads for a while, now they go through them with a fine tooth comb. No excuse not to do that here, too.
And when such things fail, you just gotta make do with the only remaining sensible option: click and hide. Ignore. Push a better line of discussion
Can't let shitposts rule you
I don't think this is going to be Genndy's most memorable work, that's for sure.
Is this any good? I was put of a bit by the goofy character designs
Its fun. Give it a try and see if you like it, though be warned its a bit slow.
The best judge will be your own eyes
I'm sure you can find a way to watch the first two episodes, legitimately or otherwise, and form a starting opinion
The pacing is a bit wonky but I find it enjoyable and interested to see where it goes with the surprise shit thats been going on.
It's okay so far. I'll reserve my full judgement until I see the full thing. Slower pace than most modern stuff, since it's planned to be a longer show and they're not rushing through things. It's hard to judge something with only 5 episodes. It's interesting to see a show that looks like this take itself so seriously in a sincere manner. If you're a Fleischer or Tezuka fan, it's worth for that alone.
>it's planned to be a longer show
Boy it better be
At this point wait a month and just watch the whole thing. It's extremely syndicated and the episode breaks are borderline meaningless. Zero replay value or ability to watch episodes out of order. It's a 110 minute movie so far that should be an 80 minute movie if the plot was tighter. Having to hurry up and wait both in the plot and the physical episode wait is half the reason people are getting fed up with following the series live. You'll also know if the ending ruins it. Assuming it does something ok by the end, it's shaping up to be a solid C- where everyone mentally ignores the first ~7 episodes.
And threadly reminder Winstlad will win the emmabowl
>Assuming it does something ok by the end, it's shaping up to be a solid C- where everyone mentally ignores the first ~7 episodes.
This may end up being a reverse of Primal and Samurai Jack Season 5.
Doesn't really bother me that much personally
I probably would have jumped in from of a bus if the binge format meme had taken over every show
Even Primal S1-A being burned through in like a week was torture afterwards
Studios can't figure out how to not frick up distribution, but shows like this just don't work with batches or weekly. Not releasing it as a dump or pt1/2 split over a cheeky end of month rebill is a mistake.
Weekly distribution still requires a certain amount of episodic structure. Ideal for a weekly release you have the overarching plot but every episode is a proper 3 act structure contained narrative. You can frick that up a bit by dropping episodes in batches/half seasons, but it's better than taking a show that has no off ramps and cutting it into weekly episodes.
Unicorn is only going to be 3:40:00 in total and it's a straight shot narratively. Episode 1 and 2 are "one" story with an endpoint. Episode 3, 4, and 5 are the second story (maybe up through episode 7 or to the finale). Breaking that second arc into 3+ weeks might not have lost (depending on numbers) the ride or die'ers but it isn't winning back anyone who dipped episode 1 or endear it to those getting annoyed with the show. It allows for people to do things like think about how many thousands of people died on that ship and meme it for an entire week, only for the show to treat it as a funny visual gag before the monster does PG violence and we get backstory.exe on the evil just being morgana and it being "melindas" fault.
If binging it without Ads on hbomax in a month just costs them money, but is the most common viewership choice, they screwed up. That's a larger problem with streaming/distribution but is definitely aggravated by how the show is designed.
I feel like I’m the only one who wants Emma to win the Emmabowl.
self love is the best love after all
EMBONPOINT
I just want them all to be free and happy, even Morgan. A tall order maybe, but still.
Yeah, Morgan, The Evil, and Merlin are all much more sympathetic now that we finally know what’s up. Even June these past couple of episodes seems like she probably has her reasons.
I still don’t excuse Merlin for deciding the solution was body snatching, though.
>we finally know what’s up
Not the whole picture just yet. Even if she wasn't inclined towards intentional evil, the way Morgan reacted to Melinda defying her definitely came across as having some Dark Side of the Force tendencies
Plus Merlin straight up accusing her of being on some shit
Until we know more about her background, and what Merlin was afraid of her knowing about Melinda's powers for, the book is still open
I was done for the moment I saw fox witch in that one teaser
Making her small and scared for a scene was just throwing away the keys to the cell
The fox just confuses me more now. If Morgan isn't even sapient how is she serving her and fearing punishment? There's clearly more to this.
It could be possible her master is actually Merlin, and he commanded her to oppose Unicorn as part of a grander plan he has.
Castlevania logic, the true big bag that orchestrated everything is actually just a mindless being that gives people powers
She needs to become friends with Alfie.
I really liked her before this scene. We got to see he as a cunning and formidable force that can give the protags a run for their money. But after this scene I'm thinking I love this precious little vulpine. I appreciate it when they let a villain/antagonist have moments of weakness and vulnerability. Though now it look like she might be more of a unwilling henchwomen then an actual villainess.
I mean, she could still very well be evil. Kitsune are know if being devious little shits. Who knows?
the fox has done nothing but job and spout exposition coomerman
How is someone suppose to plan for their enemy summoning a fricking Kraken? June Way is trying her best, God damn it.
More like June Way into my heart
Shes so frickin cute
"Oh shit Black person" should be the huge form she tried to eat Seng/Alfie with
A fox is fine too
>I feel like I’m the only one who wants Emma to win the winstonbowl
I mean it's the same thing, but is in line with the emma protagonist framing of the show.
I have zero investment in either potential ship and if it's just going to be "Winston is a chad who never had any flaws and effortlessly wins" then what's the damn point, especially since he and Emma are probably not going to be in future seasons? This feels less like a love triangle and more like two couples who accidentally got tangled together on a cosmic level and they can't get themselves out of it. Winston better do something stupid or have a flaw because otherwise I'll be left wondering why did Genndy introduce this TeamEdward vs TeamJacob shit.
>two couples who accidentally got tangled together on a cosmic level and they can't get themselves out of it
Yes
That's pretty much the entire premise of the show
Well then let's hope that they actually do find a way to split Emma and Melinda (besides Emma dying) because this whole thing is stupid. Winston and Edred are both after two different women.
If it's possible to separate the dark magic from Morgan, which seems like the only way to put her down for good/free her, then hopefully Melinda and Edred can give up the ghost and just pass on peacefully and leave the living to their lives
On the Winston note specifically, he's been pretty clingy and unresponsive to Emmalinda trying to impress the gravity of the situation upon him what with his constantly following her into danger and declaring that he'll never let her go. And he did let his huffing and puffing take over which caused him to go back to Lawrence's boat which got him bitten
So he hasn't been perfect, memes aside
I think Emma and Winston both represent childhood. Emmelinda and Wereston are them dealing with the identity crisis of adolescence. Their Secret Final Forms at the end of the show will show what kind of adults they end up as. which is why I think ending the show by “fixing” them by putting them back the way they were before, letting them finish the wedding, and going on with their lives as though this whole Unicorn business never happened, would be a bad ending. To my interpretation, that would be akin to them playing house and regressing back to childhood
And the “parental figures”: Melinda, Morgan, Merlin, Fairfax, potentially more, will either accept the person the child grows into, or fail as parents.
>"Winston is a chad who never had any flaws and effortlessly wins"
>Winston better do something stupid or have a flaw
He's been portrayed as clingy. He keeps following Emma even though she tells him to stop doing so. His refusal to listen and failure to back off has gotten him hurt multiple times; the last time he got hurt will probably have some very serious consequences. Emma is visibly frustrated with both Winston and Edred for playing tug-of-war with her and acting like she's their possession.
She's his wife/fiancee anon and Emma loves him. Dont call him clingy when he is trying to get back to and protect someone he loves after some magical bodysnatching bullshit. Its Melinda being a b***h about it
What should Melinda do then? Just chill in the back of Emma's mind while fox destroys London/the world?
She could try doing anything at all besides insisting on doing the thing she’s already tried doing hundreds of times before and has never worked.
Hey! Spoilers for episode 10 bro not cool
In all seriousness the backstory dump and episodes slated to fix Copernicus it really feels like they only have time for "there has to be another way" and "turns out there was another way". Like Melinda will hug her dragon mom instead of trying to kill her and 1000 years of bodyjacking will be for nothing (and never addressed) because generational trauma is superficially repaired. Then season 2 bait of why the power blowback made her the bbeg in the first place and real threat is revealed.
If he loves Emma so much, he should really listen to what Emmelinda says to him. If that doesn’t mean doing what she tells him to do, then he could at least try hearing her out and making any attempt to meet her halfway, instead of constantly dismissing her completely.
But that's Melinda half-possessing Emma, not really Emma. Emma never had a choice in the matter.
Not them but that doesn't mean Melinda isn't wrong. He's going to get himself hurt. He HAS been getting himself hurt. Everyone's calling the werewolf thing kino but there's so many ways that can go wrong.
Emma is dead and not coming back. Emmelinda has a piece of Emma within her, and that is the closest Winston will ever come to interacting with her again.
Also we have seen absolutely no indication that the “Emma half” wants him around. I don’t even think the “Melinda half” cares, because Emmelinda is telling him to frick off for his own safety, and Melinda seems like she wouldn’t give a frick if he gets killed while tagging along.
Emma half visited him in the hospital and she did wipe the smudge off his cheek, but yeah she even seems resigned to Winston and her parents no longer being part of her life.
>Emma is dead and not coming back
You think so? Because it seems like the endgame will be breaking the whole cycle which itself is seeming more and more insidious considering what we now know about the "evil" and Melinda's powers.
They have ideas for future incarnations so I don't think the cycle is being broken
My thoughts concerning that are in the spoiler
Thats Melinda though. Emma wants her to frick off
Nah he's being clingy but you don't see it that way because (so far) it hasn't really annoyed Emma the way Edred harping on about Melinda has. There's a difference between wanting to know where Emma is and that she's safe and inserting himself into dangerous situations because he HAS to be the one to bring her back. Like her parents aren't tracking her every move and following her around and they'd arguably have more of a reason to do so than Winston.
>He's been portrayed as clingy
If you witnessed you're fiance get possessed by some demon, seemingly turn schizophrenic and forget who they are, and continually put themselves into dangerous situations, would you not try to chase them to try to bring them home safely?
It's pretty obvious that Winston is gonna get tangled up with the big bad in an attempt to save Emma
Winston's flaw if you take into account the statements that the Emma to Melinda process is meant to symbolize growing up is that based on the way he says things he keeps trying to be a paternalistic partner to Emma.
While that would make sense with a normal girl in the Victorian Era that's not who she is at least anymore (and it also is seen as bad by modern moral standards) and so for him to be a viable partner he will need to come to terms with the fact she doesn't need him to protect her.
"The can't go back to exactly the way things are after their experiences" is one thing, but melinda is 100% a body jacking random person inside emma's head that will be excised in some way a la the bali mystic being able to separate their souls with parlor tricks. One of the few things the last episode did is dispel any idea that these are reincarnations. And likely that Melinda is gaslit or willingly complicit in the cycle of fighting her mom because of "her" mistake that could doom the world on the word of merlin.
Expect a boilerplate "it's my fault, no it's my fault" exchange and back to the status quo. Melinda has explaining to Edred their quest is fake for their big emotional thing because the love square as set up is really two parallel lines.
There’s goofy character designs up the ass, but it’s the most interesting cartoon airing right now (and probably the most interesting one all year) so you might not want to miss that
it feels like the writers did a dnd session to try to define the characters and while it works sometimes theres a lot of times where a character is "doing something" just because the person assigned to them seems to be bored, instead of having any meaningful point to the episode. That part kinda sucks, its very obvious on the first couple episodes with the monk who keeps doing silly shit as if its a real player bored of waiting for plot exposition to end.
I usually hate delving into backstories too much, but this show is so weird and filled with unexplained things that it made sense. It explained crucial parts in the story and not just “this character is this way because muh trauma”. I liked that.
I'm starting to wonder if the magic powers Melinda and Morgan have are actually like external beings with their own will. We see a jaw snapping when kid Melinda is being restrained, and then Morgan turns into a monster of pure energy.
At least in the case of Melinda it definitely seems that way, and it seems to have corrupted Morgan somehow.
I don't think totally sapient, but like I said at some point earlier there might be some degree of animalistic drive when the circumstances are right
I mean, Merlin treated Melinda using her powers as more dangerous in how it might attract the wrong kind of attention rather than it being dangerous in its own right to her, and it seemed like Morgan trying to wrestle it out provoked a response after it was seemingly dormant if not docile
I want to believe, but we'll have to wait until next week and see if the promo for after that mentions an extra long episode
I wonder if they ever tried to cure Morgan before, or if her situation now is just permanent.
Maybe while Melinda was still youngish, but from the point where the show starts, either they've given up and committed to an eternal battle, or Merlin had altered Melinda's memories to the same effect
I doubt memory alteration, as she didnt seem surprised when they got back to the present.
I'm expecting another flashback, probably from her POV or Merlin's. Merlin seems shady af at the moment.
>Merlin treated Melinda using her powers as more dangerous in how it might attract the wrong kind of attention rather than it being dangerous in its own right to her
It'll be cool if we saw more examples of that: others who try to take Melinda's powers from her. It would be even better if she first met Edred as an enemy combatant trying to take her powers away.
Knowing Edred they're guaranteed to start off as bitter enemies for all of 5 minutes before it sinks in that they're the first real people of the opposite gender that they've encountered that aren't royal servants or their dad
Frick those homies
Is it true episode 7 will be a 45 minutes long elf war?
Would be cool but citation really fricking needed
Someone posted info on upcoming episodes schedules and episode 7 seems to be 45 minutes long.
Kinda weird to let it throw off the whole block like that.
She's right
I hate Demarcos for screwing the block over like this. Toonami and anime deserve better.
Why?
I don’t ask because it seems inconceivable, but because it is very believable but I imagine there are many potential reasons, and I’m curious which one(s) it is.
Quit trying to foment drama, homosexual. Last time you tried to get them to raid us and they told you to have a nice day.
>forment drama
Anon we have east vs west threads all the time. You're the only one forcing drama.
Jog off, tard
he'll post out of context pages that say some left-aligned shit once in the entire 30 volume run, but manga authors have at least 2 brain cells to rub together so they know that a lecture, even a thinly veiled one, is never, ever entertaining.
What the SHIT are you on about?
Its bait. Do not reply.
Did you forget your meds this morning?
Do we know how long this season will be? Is there an episode list?
10 episodes
10 episodes.
the character designs and the style of animation would work as A popeye Reboot which can explain why Gendy ended up almost directing a Popeye movie
I'm pretty sure they hate you for shitting up their threads. Also didn't you post pic related?
Are you seriously trying to falseflag a falseflag?
What a fricking joke.

Straight up identical, in fact
imagine the state of the mods when poeple start posting e-girl emma lewds
I like the show, but I don't see the point of whats going on with this sad cuck
Go hump a tree, Edred, we all know Melinda won't give you the time of day
She just left Winston stranded alone in the sea, is that truly what you consider winning?
She knows he'll be fine
And who can really account for sea-faring werewolves?
She was also ready to brush off the kraken she summoned. For me it was an example of Emma not thinking things through again.
To make Edred seethe
My idea is
.
He’s either gonna serve as an example of exactly the opposite of what Emma should do. Or Emma will learn what she should do by watching and/or helping him.
how many people did Emma kill already?
My guess
~30 after going ape shit
~200 after summoning the kraken
>mfw I just realized they never showed Unicorn going to check if there were survivors on that steam ship the kraken attacked
They left Winston behind in the middle of the sea instead of bringing him back to the shore, too. And he ended up in serious trouble because of it. (I suppose it's kind of his own fault for following Emmalinda to dangerous places, though)
Under normal circumstances, the host identity goes dormant and loses all control of their body.
Even if the hosts are unable to put up resistance, there must've been a bunch of problems with all the loved ones of previous hosts. I doubt they would've been happy when someone they care about suddenly gets turned into a different person. Looking at the current team's interactions with anyone outside their team, the Unicorn guys probably told them something like "sucks to be you, deal with it".
He followed her onto a then regular ship. Not his fault the thing suddenly got a magic barrier put on it and sent out to sea by a magic fox
the dude suffers from selective blindness, he should be well aware of the weird shit going on at this point
>nearly gets killed by a zombie elephant
>Emma blows him up again at the hospital
>now he's a werewolf
Literally bad shit happens to this guy when he follows her lol I wouldn't be surprised if the werewolf thing goes horribly wrong for him too.
Just shows how much of a chad he is.
He saw multiple magical attacks earlier. He's gotta know there's something supernatural going on. He must've figured out there's danger and uncertain things involved, but he still heads towards them. He appears suicidally stupid.
However, I still kinda feel that he's justified enough to follow Emma. The woman he loves is under the influence of something that makes her look and act different. She's confused and not herself. Something is very clearly wrong with her. Winston wants to help her, and he wants to find a way to return her back to normal. I can't say he's an awful person for staying by her side despite the dangers instead of immediately giving up on his bride.
Toon Boom is just software what are you even saying? Worse than Toon Boom?
He means rigged puppet animation. Think Rick and Morty and it's clones.
So what if host decides 'frick it, no control for you' and kills himself? Full panic mode and quickly find a new (preferably more stable) host?
Clearly the intended and until now consistent result is there not being enough of the host left to actively contravene the Unicorn
Although I have to imagine at least one cycle has had one of the group die quite a bit earlier than the others in a fight against the evil of that era, in which case they probably just have to make do
Probably wouldn’t matter that much functionally if that happened to Edred. He’s looking more and more like he’s only there for moral support. And Seng provides the handy but possibly not strictly essential task of being radar or a geiger counter, directing the team where to go to find The Evil, or anything else they might have to find. And Copernicus seems like he doesn’t actually need to accompany the group after they’ve awakened, just prioritize his own safety so he can conduct future awakenings.
Meanwhile, as Edred keeps insisting, it is Melinda’s job to do the actual work. In every way, this is feeling more and more like her journey, and her friends are just along for the ride.
Tartakovsky shows are great, he just doenst know how to end them
Found it. Was this Elmer?
Nope, that's Casper Caveman.
What is with all the deleted posts? I haven't been in a Unicorn thread in a while, is it starting to attract obsessive shitposters or something?
People got triggered by comicgays being exposed in the twitter thread so now they're using this thread to astroturf.
This is why you need send artists to college.
>twitter thread
why the frick do you want twitter threads on Cinemaphile? Social media crossposting needs to be banned in general.
>why the frick do you want twitter threads on Cinemaphile?
People who room with "odds" want them on the board. All they do is attract off topic bullshit.
I stopped watching cartoons long time ago, but this board feels like a nostalgic trip.
Its been attracting obsessed schizos and spammers for a while, mods have finally started pruning them.
He's been pulling this shit since Primal
But it's escalated to absurd levels recently
We have our dedicated hater and all, we finally made it lads.
We /uwe/ now
probably some janitor getting triggered over memes or "low quality posts".
I got a warning last thread for responding with "BRAP" to an image of Emma with a fat ass.
You deserved it.
frick off, it was funny
Who has that pic of Dimitri with the "I took this picture of my boyfriend" thread
It fits so perfectly
Nah, you sound like a shitposting moron. Mods doing good work for once.
I wouldn't be super surprised that if we do get a moment where Emma goes with Winston and tries to be just Emma again we get "oh that's just Melinda, just stop being her lol" moments from him like we've gotten with Edred and Emma.
Really makes me wonder what would have happened if they had gone through with the marriage, and then Emma had in any way acted outside of Winston’s idea of her.
>The Emma I married would never joint@ a suffragist movement!
>The Emma I married would never choose blue drapes for the drawing room!
>The Emma I married would WANT to have a fourth kid and try for a son this time!
I think that's contributing more malice to him than he probably has (what little we've seen of Emma's past she seemed perfectly happy and Winston so far is just your average guy) but yeah. It's also not impossible that Winston will be changed (interally) and at some point he won't be able to recognize Emma as the girl he knew.
The point where I raised an eyebrow and said “hm. I think Winston might not be a perfect good boi” came when he said “those orphans who kicked my ass at foot ball will get theirs. I heard the school is shutting down (leaving them homeless).
To clarify, I don’t think Winston is a terrible person. I think he’s just a shade self centered, stubborn, naive, and immature. Which are also all of Emma’s flaws.
>Cthulhu fight monster in the start of the episode
Finally some just straight big acti-
>Episode is more exposition for Melinda/Emma
Th-thanks Genndy. I was hoping to get more of this.
It's a change of pace from Primal's insistence on action if nothing else
Exposition has lasted too long. Epsiode 4 being 90% holding pattern was a bad move.
Hold on lads. You think they're done exposin? We got 2 more episodes of exposition and development for their character. Alfie gays, I hope you guys ate before the starvation period.
Please tell me you’re joking. If 70% of the show is just exposition then what’s the fricking point? Is the meme that Genndy expects 4 seasons minimum real?
Cause he's the only one still making the best shit these days.
>Alex Hirsch
>Dana Terrace
>ND Stevenson
>Pen Ward
>Rebecca Sugar
>Ian Jones Quartey
All exist.
Like 4 of those haven't made a cartoon in years either
Alex tried but Netflix didn't want seaside Gravity Falls, lol.
this anon gets it
A lot of one trick ponies in this pile of garbage.
Ian is the only good one but he couldn't get any cartoon off the ground without his wife involved and that's sad.
Hirsch is fine, but he gets way more credit that he deserves because he needs other people to polish out his work for him.
Ian's show also sucked, sorry. I do like the guy but OK KO was not it.
OK KO could have been good if it had better art direction and wasn't constantly going "remember this 90s kids!?"
>Alex Hirsch
Can't finish a project since Gravity Falls and is confirmed a hack
>Dana Terrace
>ND Stevenson
kek no
>Pen Ward
Midnight Gospel was kino but that's about it he's done since adventure time.
>Rebecca Sugar
Stopped doing anything after she ruined steven universe forever
>Ian Jones Quartey
He is based
>Pen Ward
Burnout.
>Rebecca Sugar
Bad manager.
>Alex Hirsch
Burnout and bad manager.
>Dana Terrace
Bad attitude, promoted too fast for sucking dick.
>Well where else are the /misc/ shitters and the east vs west gays supposed to go?
Away.
That's optimistic. Naive but optimistic.
>leaves him at the altar
>blows him up twice
>pawns the engagement ring
>intentionally abandons him at sea
Is the Emmabow worth it at this point
He stole a kiss like a thief in the night, and now he wants to buy more no matter the cost.
This show is so... disjointed? It feels like a slog and things don't hit a proper track. Gonna keep watching, but its such a step down from Symbiotic Titan.
SBT was pretty shit though.
So shit Cinemaphile still mourns its cancellation. Disagree there, bud.
As opposed to wasting time chasing the fox? The tokyo drift episode of titan was kino.
>As opposed to wasting time chasing the fox? The tokyo drift episode of titan was kino.
Both were shit for different reasons. Genndy peaked after Dexter's Lab.
>As opposed to wasting time chasing the fox?
Why yes, I think chasing a mystical fox in a steampunk London filled with werewolves, zombies, and elephants is more fun than 90s highschool cliches.
It’s way more interesting than Symbionic on the counts of not wasting most of the time in school
>WHERE'S MY WIIIIIIIIIIIIIIFEEEEE
I just want him back bros
Feel like pure shit, it's not fair
Holy crap Edred
remember than time copernicus met merlin?
>Cinemaphile has shit taste, why should I care
He says as he posts on Cinemaphile
Genndy ranking 5 episodes in:
Primal > Samurai Jack > Dexters Lab > Sym Bionic Titan > UWE
UWE is going to have to really step it up in the last 5 episodes to climb the rankings.
Primal > Samurai Jack > UWE > Sym Bionic Titan > Dexters Lab
How’s the newest episode doing on Max? I tried looking into it but the App is being a b***h about logging in.
Where does one look on the site to see that info?
Just the trending page
Baby Melinda is the most adorable character ever
>emo Elmer fudd
>cutest thing ever
The people who really love this show have really weird opinions on just about everything.
She really is.
She is very cute. Part of me wished Emma could steal baby Melinda away from that timeline and bring her to Emma's present. That would be chaos that might break time/reality itself, but knowing that innocence died to create grumpy Melinda is depressing.
I just wished she had a pointy nose, then she might not look so weird as the child version of Melinda
You gotta stop feeding industrycuck lmao, we all know he samegays. The guy literally has no job and deliberately shit himself at a theater, theres no point expecting him to be rational enough to argue lmao.
The problem is that because of his autism it’s impossible to have a negative opinion of any Genndy show, which leads to a hugbox where all criticism is shouted down or ignored. Which is ironically what he complains about.
>muh Genndy hugbox
b***h you created it
You're not wrong. Its unfortunate, too. Even legit criticism gets poisoned since he goes out of his way to amplify it, which just makes it come off as samegayging.
I will admit Unicorn's pacing is pretty damn shit, though. It should not have taken this long to get to this point in the story.
I've noticed some weird pacing even on the shot-to-shot level. It lingered too long on the monster standing there doing nothing which paradoxically made it seem LESS threatening, and e-girl Melinda shot out her black flame too soon after asking if Emma wanted to see something cool.
Exactly. Half the time he replies to my posts so it looks like I’m him. I don’t blame anons for thinking so, but it’s fricking annoying
Gonna have to just start calling him out on it when he replies to you.
You shouldnt have to, but them's the breaks. I've had to do it.
>deliberately shit himself at a theater
It was piss actually. That thread was cringey and hilarious.
Did Editgay make a version of this episode or was he more happy with it as it is?
Didn't make one
>yet
Apathy + waiting to see if future episodes give more usable footage. 4 and 5 can probably be mixed together. Without cutting at it I don't know what really can be omitted. Pacing might be improvable cutting down gag sequences in the fight/kid melinda stuff but fluff seems to be becoming less of a problem than dialogue/writing quality. 5 did "a lot" but by structure, not quite by art. Emma knows melinda/merlin=responsible, evil=morgana, emma=soul trapped until bonked again or something, copernicus = ded until respawn, and we know winston = werewolf probably. What all that means to the future plot is technically pushing towards the next episode. But looking at it from an editing bay perspective it really drives home the repetitiveness of needing a fight an episode regardless of plot. Whole episodes worth of stuff might be redundant due to weeks needing fights/conflict rehashes the plot didn't demand. Like Imagine the shitpost if winston isn't a werewolf and none of that mattered. Or how the mystic scene/statue fight overlaps with the squid/flashback for "direct confrontation between emma and melinda."
When we know more it might be cool. I don't really want to prematurely reduce it to "wedding crasher-hero discovery-elephant fight-fox chase-boat escape-melinda flashback-copernicus btfo" but those are the parts that have done anything so far. There are things that could be cut that might be circled back to and have important payoffs in the series (rejected hosts, etc.), but it's the halfway mark and it hasn't yet.
What are these facial expressions meant to convey?
From this episode I think the big evil is some sort of curse the magical b***hes have. When Morgana tried to save her daughter she ended up getting the curse to herself.
She talks like Melinda power has some sort of sapience, so I'm thinking maybe a demon since they are witches? But the way the series is going it might as well be Morgana farther that somehow becomes some sort of magic incubus.
I liked this episode a lot more than the other ones, I can see now the series forming and what is about and themes. It's within my own predictions that most of this season so far is a set up for the later half of the season. But it can also be just a set up for the characters and their background so in season 2 we can see the plot developed properly. So maybe the next few episodes will also contain a few flashbacks where we get to know each character better.
Melinda design is just goth Elmyra, that is just Elmer Fudd in drag with Paraphilic infantilism. Makes me wonder with emma design and now melinda design if there are no other designs that aren't just references to something else. I can see Dmitri design being a reference to some underground soviet union cartoon movie or comic book.
>Makes me wonder with emma design and now melinda design if there are no other designs that aren't just references to something else
People have been pointing out character designs elements that look kinda like the art of Tezuka, Uderzo and Fleischer. Dimitri's design mostly makes me think of Tezuka and some other old manga art.
Anyone else think the kraken is kind of adorable looking? It's the numerous googly eyes, lashes, and dopey shape of the mouth from the front
There’s one shot where it looked a lot like Merlin to me. Probably doesn’t mean anything but I thought it was kinda interesting
>alfie becomes more and more sapien
>melinda goes more and more crazy
are women harder to understand than the cosmos?
Vastly
Alfie has the advantage of his hindrance is just being blind (but not really) and not having 3 people inside of her
*him
>Odin's eye!
Odin traded an eye for a drink from the well of wisdom. Not a Brittonic reference though it's it's a little odd to hear from Merlin.
How so? Cosmic monks, kitsune, and elves have all been confirmed to exist in this setting. Why not the Norse pantheon too?
He's not questioning that part specifically, just whether Merlin would invoke Odin in particular given his presumably Briton background
Although in a world like this, it seems reasonable enough to me
lol funnee fais
Tfw angry about elves
>people lusting after a literal baby
Disappointed but not surprised
I can't believe Copernicus is fricking dead.
More like COPErnicus
I can't believe the evil foxy lady is not evil and turns out she's just trying to save everybody from Melinda, I liked her because she was evil, I can't fap to her porn anymore.
I know, Anon. She needs to be bad to the bone for me to want to bone her.
That's a jump to conclusions
Episode 6 promo:
Mummy and Daddy are fighting 🙁
Maybe Mom was right.
>trusting Morgan le Fay
She was right about the power being dangerous, but Morgan was 100% going to misuse that power for her own ends.
Top kek
Fakken. Meant for
