Universal is clinically retarded

Even Netflix wants to revive monster universe started with Dracula Untold and The Mummy (turns out there's a lot of evidence that Dracula Untold was 1st film, not The Mummy)

Call me a traditionalist but I want my monsters to be evil.

And I love Chuckie D but he's getting on in years. I don't think you can bring him out for another movie like this.

Dracula is seen as Romanian hero nowdays. Even despite his cruel methods. But I agree they made him too sympathetic in this films. Should be just cruel anti-hero fighting with Turkish antagonists.

It's complicated. He was not really a "hero" because he indeed was a cruel and sick freak and even his own people feared him, but at the same time he tried to protect his kingdom and people were grateful for this.

He was a ruthless warlord who both allied and betrayed the European kings and the Turkish Sultan to retain Wallachian independence. I can totally see why his own people would call him a hero but he was definitely, 100% fall into a "bad guy" archetype. Arguably just like all great rulers.

Vlad Tepes isn't really that important in Romanian history. He was based for killing Turks but overextended himself. The hero to the Dacians is Steven The Great.

I thought steven was more of a moldavian/moldovan thing? (even though its part of romania historically)

Therein lies the glaring flaw in the Dark Universe from the beginning. Presumably the overall plan was for the heroic monsters to eventually team up to take on some larger threat and save the world? It never really made sense.

No, monsters were supposed to stay bad guys. Plan was for Jekyll's team tracking them then monsters joining forces to fight Jekyll's guys.

That still doesn’t work because whose side would Tom Cruise be on? Getting mummy powers didn’t turn him evil or anything.

            Anonymous

Cruise ends up on the good monsters side, so presumably we'd get a good vampire, a good werewolf, the good bride of Frankenstein, etc to face off against their evil counterparts or what the frick ever. It still doesn't fricking work because no one cares about a bunch of OC donuts doing another Avengers.

Jekyll says that he could be their greatest ally.
Apparently there is a leaked script of Van Helsing film. It's a sequel to Dracula Untold but also Van Helsing used to work for Jekyll's agency but left or they kicked him. Apparently Crowe makes small cameo in 1 scene, not like in The Mummy tho.

Why the actual frick do they not just make a monster team up movie and call it a fricking day? I don’t need to watch 6 movies to know why Dracula, the Mummy, Frankenstein’s Monster, the Wolfman and the Creature from the Black Lagoon have to team up with Dr. Jekyll to stop Cthulhu from awakening and destroy the entire planet. Just give me some big League of Extraordinary Gentlemen bullshit monster movie and call it a day. I’d at least respect them for doing a big spectacle instead of these limp wristed attempts at starting a shared universe that they keep back pedaling on

Its a problem with modern writing. The idea is to write something, leave a bunch of Chekhov's guns lying around, and expect someone to use the fricking things later even though no one wants to pick up another writer's sloppy seconds. I mean they WILL, but its all about the paycheck and no one is under any illusions that anyone cares that it's hot garbage because the only reason its being made is because some executive said "IP made us a lot of money, lets do a sequel/reboot/revival".

      >Why the actual frick do they not just make a monster team up movie and call it a fricking day?

Because that's been done, anon. But seriously what they want is innumerable pointless movies that people will watch regardless of interest. They want tv show tie ins and animated series all connected. Anon, they want money. They don't give a frick about the monsters or the story or the fans.

They want to find a way to make people interested in them again like years ago. They're a bit dated now and overplayed. It's great that they had this last hurrah in the 90s but it was at the end of that period of horror movies before Scream and the cheap era that followed. People love monsters. But not those monsters. It would take a genius to make it work.

The whole concept of Dark Universe is so tainted at the moment, that the should just sweep it under the rug for a while and let people forget about this whole ordeal. Then at some point they can relaunch it as something a bit different, like monsterverse or something.

Their review of The Mummy? It's one of their funniest. And of course they're against a crossover series with them as a principle. But I'm surprised Jay recommended Bride of Frankenstein everything else I hear from him suggests that he knows his 70s explitation but everything made before might as well not exist for him.

Universal is now building monster theme park they criticized a lot in Mummy review and can't wait to see their reaction when they see copyrighted names.
DARK UNIVERSE - trademark name of the park
CURSE OF THE WEREWOLF - wolfman ride
