Universal has the license for Simpsons theme park attractions until 2028, but it has been reported that the park will be dropping the IP in their parks later this year. Disney will soon gain access as the owners of The Simpsons, which means they can soon put The Simpsons in Disneyland or Walt Disney World

Simpsons going public domain when?
Either 70 years after Matt Groening bites it, or 95 years after the release of the first piece of Simpsons media.
kek, who would even care enough at that point to even want to use the property.
Sure would be nice if I had the kind of life where I could go to places like this. I've only been to Carowinds a couple times, because there's one close enough.
My family lived in Orlando and we never ocne went to a single theme park the whole time we were there. My father has some insane deep seeded hatred of unnecessary spending of money, and entertainment is what he considered to be unnecessary when we have tv at home.
I did not go to Disneyworld until years later after graduating high school and was living in Illinois.
Lmao what a waste of living in Florida, especially since Florida residents get in for 50% off.
I was actually planning on going this year or sometime in the future. How is it, honestly?
How is Universal Studios in general, or just the Simpsons area?
Simpsons is well themed with good stuff. Go while you can. Disney will not do as well. Doubtful they'll drop it early. Universal Florida is never letting go of Marvel.
Universal Hollywood is great only for the Tram ride and Harry Potter. The Simpsons land is overrated, it’s just a bunch of meh-restaurants with Simpsons themes.
Oh please let Disney uproot and burn more rides trying to chase shit.
I hope they replace Figment and the Imagination Pavilion with The Simpsons just for massive meltdowns
What and lose out on popcorn vessel money?
Oh boy, another overhaul of Paradise/Pixar Pier
The annoying part about this is that people b***hed about them removing the back to the future ride for Simpsons and now look at where we're at.
This anon gets it but Marvel Academy is doing SO piss poor, maybe they can tear that out and put the Simpson shit in there.
I'd rather see that go then them trying to overhaul Hollywood backlot for Simpsons, which I'm sure is on the chopping block in it's own way.
Ever wonder why they're waiting so long to retheme Tomorrowland? This thread is a hint. Get ready for an Incredicoaster-esque Space Mountain!
There were rumors that the intention was they were going to retheme Space Mountain to Lightyear, but that fell apart when the spinoff film bombed so bad
It's a reminder that nobody wants to see lesbians outside of Pornhub.
Dispite the film having much bigger issues.
When I was a child I really wanted them to retheme it to Lilo and Stitch
>bored audiences saving themepark-goers from shitty short-term IP cash-ins
based.
I think the riots would be too big to allow them to do that. People were thinking they'd take out Toon Town for starwars land, but we got a fresh coat of paint instead.
If they do anything Simpsons, putting it in DCA or down town disney would be less protested.
Likely we'll see the Muppet Studio remade or Monster's Inc remade to be Simpsons themed. And the Simpsons section at Universal is so small, all they'd really need to do is just take the ride assets and move them over to DCA and have it be isolated by it's self, not a whole LAND redo.
The Muppet area would be my guest as a lot of it storage space. About the only other place I could think of would be the area left of the gate but I doubt they'd want to break the old Hollywood theme that close to the entrance.
anons Muppets isn't there anymore. hasn't been for years.
No, I mean the general Muppet area leading to the entrance to Galaxy's Edge where Rizzo's Pizzaria is located.
first anon is talking about DCA, not DHS.
>Jisney soon to ruin another long running franchise
More of the same huh
let's be real, simpsons was already zombie mode before the mouse got it's grubby little hands on it.
Anon please, Simpsons was already ruined long before Disney bought it.
If anything, they kind of got their shit together when the mouse started to tardwangle them, for the record, they went from having forgetable and dreadfull seasons with maybe 1 decent episode, to actually having some good episodes per season.
People give Lisa goes gaga a lot of shit but you actually remember it exists, there are worse and more boring episodes from that point up until the mouse got them.
so does that mean we're getting back to future again?
Back to the Future is basically entirely irrelevant these days.
It was a good motion ride. Probably have the Harry Potter area expanded through the middle of the park. Have a Knight Bus ride.
I hope so
I thought it was kind of stupid that they got rid of something they actually owned in favor of another company's characters; it ran the risk of something like the Disney buyout happening
I did the BTTF escape room they do. It's actually pretty good, felt bad for the 2 strangers our family got lumped with. We tried to include them but we clearly dominated the puzzle solving.
I could see them tearing down both MiB (the ride is clearly about to be closed) and Simpsons Land and building Pokemon land.
Are we still getting another Simpsons theatrical movie?
No, Simpsons peaked in the 90s, 2007 like the series corpse finally releasing its bowels. unto the fans
>Disney mows down Autopia for this when everyones' voices aged even worse at this point and it can't have Apu and Harry Shearer still won't play ball.
End the Simpsons. Just end it.
Well the SAG just went in for AI
Well they better hurry and end the Simpsons then.
>Disney will soon gain access as the owners of The Simpsons
This is not good news for Disney. If anything, it's Comcast turning the screws on them once more.
Disney is out another income stream, and they don't have money earmarked for any expansion in US parks. It's all going overseas to Disneyland Shanghai.
They'll just replace some shit no one cares about with Simpsons in the existing parks, not like it needs more then one ride or small themed section
Sure, they can do that. But that means they're not going to drive a large increase in attendance. They're still losing out on licensing fees from Universal. Extra work, no gain.
At least Universal, Disney would get a cut of attendance, so if Universal did well, Disney would do well. This is the exact same problem as Disney+. Their own parks are on a downward trend.
Damm loved Springfield at universal in Orlando but not shocked
The duff light tasted exactly like I thought a Duff beer would taste like and would love to buy it one last time
Plus got a bort key chain which I love
Are they gonna lost the Spider-Man ride at any point?
Orlando no, the agreement is they have the rights for as long as they want.
Yup, Marvel was really desperate back in the 90s and wasn't thinking long-term, they just needed the money. Let's not forget, Marvel offered Sony the movie rights to pretty much ALL Marvel characters forever, and the only reason it didn't happen was because Sony said no because they only wanted Spider-Man and were unwilling to pay what amounts to chump change for the rest.
No, because the licenses are different as they came from different companies before Disney bought them.
For The Simpsons its a very set 20-year license that expires in 2028, which Fox might have renewed but Disney won't renew it obviously so it has to go away by that time. Marvel was in desperate straits in the 1990s so their license with Universal for the characters in their land is for perpetuity, as long as the specific land still exists and payments are made. Even if they added or adjusted nothing from it besides routine maintenance it's so much valuable to keep the majority of Marvel characters away from Disney World
I love that. They've got the core characters that Disney wishes they'd had during the Marvel peak.
In the end I think it helps Disney not fully frick up their parks, they got Guardians since that wasn't covered in the Universal deal (since it became popular later) and look how that mismatches so bad in Epcot.
But it can get insanely petty. For example, because of this one singular painted mural they cannot make any Black Panther/Wakanda universe world at WDW
How much does the Universal deal cover? Like obviously the characters in the mural plus Spider-Man and X-Men are included, but does that include all Avengers or any Avengers that were shown in the parks?
This is a misunderstanding. The contract actually says that a character must be a significant feature of an attraction to be covered, incidental artwork does not count. However, once a character is featured, every villain and every hero on the same team as them (of of the 90s) belongs to Universal. This means X-men (storm force) F4 (Doom's fear fall), Avengers & Spider-man (Adventures of Spider-man). Black Panther is a long time Avengers member so is covered.
They were actually pushing their luck a bit with Guardians of the Galaxy because although they weren't part of the Avengers in the 90s, Drax did feature as a Spider-man Villain once. Guess Universal thought it wasn't a battle worth fighting.
Other fun things: They're not allowed to advertise Avengers Campus at all East of the Mississippi at all. None of the monorails with Marvel art or even promos for Marvel shows can go inside of Epcot. Most of the agreement is East of the Mississippi but oddly, there's a specific clause saying that no one is allowed a marvel branded "simulator" ride within the ADI market of a city with a Universal park, the existence of the Spider-man ride in DCA makes it seem like simulator is being strictly defined as something like Star Tours
Reminder that they're replacing Simpsons with Pokémon.
That sounds like a pretty reasonable and profitable thing to do, but do you have a source?
Lot of the same theme park insiders claiming Zelda is replacing Lost Continent. Apparently Luigi's Mansion is in consideration as the first expansion to Epic Universe too.
a Luigi Mansion Dark Ride with maybe the Shooter Aspect of that MiB ride would be excellent.
https://www.gonintendo.com/contents/30756-rumor-universal-orlando-getting-pokemon-zelda-and-luigi-s-mansion-attractions
Imagine how fricked Disney World would be compared to now if it had full, unlimited Marvel IP access
who fricking cares?
Thank frick. Maybe the boring-ass show will end soon. For the sake of Julie Kavner's larynx.
That's just wishful thinking. Universal is removing the Simpsons Ride, you don't think Disney is gonna do anything with it?
Going to miss Krusty Burger. The Florida one has this cheese saice that's so fricking bomb and these amazing curly fries. Flaming moes are also nice. Guess it's about time. This opened when I was a kid and I'm almost 30.
They'll probably carry the foods over to whatever they do next.
What are your theories about Disneyland Forward?
oh huh, i guess this is whats being lost in exchange for stuff like the luigi's mansion ride
Since Japan closed their Spider-Man Ride, the theory is they’ll build a new ride system themed to Pokémon there then clone it here since the Simpsons/BTTF ride is a pretty old system nowadays. I wouldn’t be surprised if Springfield has mostly Pokémon, but they should maybe carve out a small section to theme to BTTF to tie it into the still nearby Delorean and Time Train. At least a dedicated Meet and Greet for Doc and Marty, maybe something as simple as Doc’s Lab in his Garage.
that would be a solid idea
