I actually like Villeneuve's approach with Dune the most out of any director so far, even if I'm not crazy about all the casting decisions. Lynch is close second but he kind of made that movie for himself.
I don't think the casting is actually that bad
> Paul atredis is a weak skinny white guy
He's supposed to be
> Paul's desert babe gf is an ugly shit skin
The fremin are literally nomadic Muslims living in isolation for 1000s of years what do you think she'd look like? Lol
Chalamet is only half-white.
jews aren't white anon and Chalamet can't act
Most of them are indistinguishable from whites. You can post a caricature but it would hardly apply, especially to the ones in hollywood.
You can easily tell looking at Chalamet.
Paul is small aka short for his age not weak and skinny. He is literally described as a heavy lad and killing machine, breed for fighting in the fight against jamis. Also he is waterfat
Fremen spend all their time outside in still suits, they would logically be pale.
I didn't like Jason Mamoa or whatever his name is, his character seemed inconsistently acted and didn't really fit well with the rest of the movie.
>Lynch is close second but he kind of made that movie for himself.
Yes and no.He genuinely wanted to make a good Dune movie, problem being the man had never worked on such a large scale movie before. He was bad at it. His directing sensibilities literally were costing the production money. Lynch needed to watch some big movies more and get out of his on eyes. Also, he should have been able to split the movie as well. He nearly had enough for 2 movies as it was. He's a great director, but was the wrong man for the job of condensing Dune into one movie.
I was on board with most of the casting in the first movie, but i dont really like some of the choices for the second:
Butler as feyd is okay i guess, i think he can pull the mix of beauty and creepyness
Walken is a great actor, but a bizarre choice for shaddam, they keep casting the character as an old man, but he is supposed to look kinda like leto, if only a few years older and with red hair
Pugh as irulan is the one i dislike the most, im just so fricking tired of her in general, they are shoving her in everything, and she just does not have the look for irulan at all imo
You can't manufacture a cultural phenomenon
filipino martial arts keep winning
I love the 2021 Dune, absolutely fantastic film, instant favorite
>one of the best Sci fi trilogies
Honest question: Are there a lot of sci-fi film trilogies out there? And this is merely *one* of the best? What are the other best ones?
That's the biggest meg I've ever seen
That's the biggest meg anyone's every seen...
>Are there a lot of sci-fi film trilogies out there?
The interesting ones all get rejected. You have bland shit like Planet of the Apes and Matrix. There's Mad Max. Obviously Star Wars OT and Prequels (which got rejected). Snyder's capeshit trilogy (which got rejected). Ridley's unfinished Alien prequels (which got rejected). Oh, and of course stuff like The Hunger Games. If you wanna count them, you can probably count the Japanese Shin movies, they are fairly neat.
LMAO literally how. It was just big theater rumbly noises, long panning shoots, and absolutely SHITE consumes and aesthetics.
It was the most phoned in thing I saw in theaters for a long while.
This. OP is huffing pure copium. Ugly cheap looking movie with generic and uninspired art direction and some pointless character changes on top of bad casting and mediocre acting. DUNC2 looks like more of the same.
Dune is as sci fi as star wars. I wouldn't call it sci fi, it's just drama set in the future
Bro you're high. Must've responded to the wrong comment
The riddick trilogy
Real.
Its extremely unlikely that the terrorists on board the plane that hit the Pentagon would have been able to pull of the descending corkscrew turn that was necessary for the flight path.
Extremely unlikely, yes, but these things happen
>small hole in the side of one wall of the building
>a few fires on the grass
>literally no wreckage at all
>no witnesses saw the plane hit the penagon
Honestly impressive they got away with this, it's pretty ballsy that they didn't even attempt to make it look real
The twin towers literally fell to the ground in a burning inferno and the pentagon got a paint scratch on the side of an outer wall lmao
lmao why did they turn doctor chinks wife into a dog
Bruh. It's utterly soulless. Literally got mogged by both the Syfy version and Lunch.
Dunc is trash.
and this isn't? john carter deserved better
No, this is a well-designed, fun action adventure and what changes they made from the book were fine.
Syfy mini DUNKS on DUNC
>get ready for this exciting movie called.. John Carter
Dunc is trash.
it was boring
the books are also boring
a planet of arabs
literally a giant desert called Arrakis
lmao at American "culture"
Villeneuve is such a hack
>two white characters turned into negresses, one of which was originally a man
didn't see part 1 won't see part 2
Worms and black people arent the exact same thing anon.
Dunc is trash.
Dunc gets mogged by a Syfy show.
Why did they use a picture of Mars to represent Arrakis?
What's with the bag pipes?
Unpopular opinion Becuase it is wrong.
Oh, the marketing has started for the next movie I see.
There is something really evil about invading peoples discussions places and trying to chnage the discussion
It’s slop.
it was boring shit, nothing special
Spectacularly unspectacular.
I don't know why people go gaga over Dune. The movies are mediocre at best, are the novels really that good??
Never got far into them but from what I've heard, not very. I think it's mainly one of those things that are popular because people insist on them being culturally relevant, ergo boomers insisting on their childhoods being our entire lives.
you are not even qualified to have this as an opinion, as the next two films aren't out yet. this pegs you as an obvious shillposter who should leave and never return
Read books 1-4. 5 and 6 are much closer to pulp sci-fi and didn't have the same degree of studied intertextuality as the first 4, and as such aren't as good. Dune is likely the richest novel of the last 100 years with regard to its ambition and execution in borrowing from history, earlier literature, scripture, and language. It's not perfect, because Herbert was not the greatest prose stylist, but it absolutely towers over every other science fiction novel before or since. Take notes when reading; you will find Biblical and Quranic references, Aeschylus, Shakespeare, Ayn Rand, Roman and Byzantine history, Chechens of the Caucasus, the Saracens, the French Ultramontanists, the British Arab explorers...and this is just for starters.
>i'm no fan of forced diversity in films.
>But it just worked in this film
obvious shill is obvious. frick off with that trash; being deliberately, antithetically unfaithful to the novel is unacceptable, full stop
>It's not perfect, because Herbert was not the greatest prose stylist, but it absolutely towers over every other science fiction novel before or since. That's nice and all but from what I gather it still falls flat on its face at the end of the day.
if you haven't read it then you don't gather shit
pride in your own ignorance is a bold strategy Cotton
>if you haven't read it then you don't gather shit
There's no way it's better than New Sun, just based on backgrounds.
if you read it you will then be qualified to have an opinion
Nah, I'm good. I'm picky.
>read books
Frick no
i'm not a diehard fan of the novel. It being set in a far off future fantasy time made it easier to accept the wacky divershity.
I liked how it felt like a documentary at times with its long lingering shots and little dialogue tbh. Was easier to immerse in the world then the word salad exposition filled messes of previous adaptations. There's more to making a good adaptation than just being true to the text. You also need to find new ways to convey information from the book - new ways that suit the medium.
Finally someone posting with brains
Shame it's only half a brain.
>generic archetype characters
>meme actors
>empty world building
>greywashed everything
>lifeless action set-pieces
>just fricking soulless in every way
it was forgettable big-budget trash
Dunc one is definitely one of my favourite recent movies.
I'm extremely picky with movies. And i'm no fan of forced diversity in films.
But it just worked in this film, very enjoyable and didn't come off as cringey.
The anime was better
True.
The actual anime adaption is Code Geass but nobody will want to here this.
Also kino.
I haven't watched dunc and never will.
My roommate was watching it in on the main tv, I saw it was the part with the carry-all and the sandcrawler and they evacuate the crew with the ornithopter and the first worm shows up. I was going somewhere but I stuck around to see the worm. That scene should’ve been good but they drag it out to near 20 minutes for no reason and it fricking sucks. It looks shitty and it’s boring. That’s all I saw of Dunc. I hated it. Love the books though.
>That’s all I saw of Dunc
You've seen the whole movie.
Will there be part 3 with Dune Messiah and Children of dune combined? Maybe it will be a mistake since the start of the transformation is kinda cringe.
Probably will be a part 3 with only Dune Messiah. Can't see them doing Children
If the series is hit someone will do Children. Villeneuve has shown interest in doing Messiah, but I can't see him being tied up in Dune movies beyond that. Guy wants to do other stuff, and these movies aren't exactly hitting huge numbers.
Considering how overrated the novels are, it's no surprise that the films would be equally garbage
looked like a ps2 cutscene and even by that standard it was shit
>looked like a ps2 cutscene
I wish.
Top 3 worst scenes in dunc, go
For me it is
(3) a jihaid in my name, a million genocide in my name!
(2) the ham fisted “he is so alone cinematography” scene where Paul’s father gets killed.
(1) this is only the beginning -TM
What makes you think it will be a trilogy?
Denis said it would be a trilogy of trilogies, each trilogy from a different director.
The trailer shows scenes from the end of the book. And the first movie ended halfway through the book
>God Emperor of Dune will never be made into a movie
Villeneuve's sci-fi is the most easthetically boring sci-fi possible. It worked fine in Arrival because the movie didn't try to sell you a whole new world full of mysteries, it was grounded in reality. However it really doesn't work well with Dune
Bollocks
luv (Frank's) books
luv lynch movie
luv miniseries
luv westwood strategies
dunc was good
concerned with zendaya overwhelming presence in dunc 2 trailer (chani was frick all in the books)
It's a dreadful mess only liked by reddit midwits
