Cope, if you're out there, I feel you. I'm four books into a story whose length I am uncertain of. Well, three books and one short story, and I'm at work on the fourth book as we speak. I don't know how many books and short stories and poems will be in the full story by the time it's done.
I feel for Cope because the scale and the scope and the mastery of this story is very rare, but I can very much imagine how much she must sometimes be exhausted by the magnitude of it. This is a big story. Unsounded is going to take a long time to tell in full. But I know that if Cope can drag it across the finish line--if she can get where she wants to go--it will be a masterpiece, and people will be talking about it a thousand years from now.
Or maybe I'm projecting, because that's the fate I want for my own story.
But I have grown to appreciate the burden of the storytelling far traveler. Someone who has to go far, but it's going to take a long time to get there. But every step, every inch, is worthwhile, because the story is so good.
I myself can only hope to be as good as Cope. It's not wrong to compare her to Tolkien in the scope and scale and talent of what she does.
Sette's been an butthole all the time and people are cool with it. Jivi is an butthole one time and people suddenly lose their goddamn minds. I'd say that was based instead, because Sette really needs some putdown sometimes : V

It's going to get really interesting when the rest of the characters notice that Sette doesn't know who starfish is any more.
Well Quigley sure knew who Starfish was, and he just called the revolting testicle-monster version of him "one of these monsters" instead of by name. Wouldn't be too weird to just consider it a pain-ghost monster instead of the monster previously known as Starfish.
Quigs is probably still stuck on the "plods can't have their original souls" dogma. "It's not real actual undead Starfish in there, just a convincing simulacrum."
That's sort of what I mean. They've all seen ghosts they know aren't the real people they looked like. Sette not acknowledging Starfish probably won't surprise anyone.
Yeah, well, I think it's just so they don't have that conversation yet and so it comes as a shock to the other characters when they confront Starfish and Sette's like: "Do you know that dude?"
