I don't think unsounded can afford to lose duane right now. I think he'll die before the series ends (if Ashley lives that long) but it'll be during book two.

I would be pretty shocked If he got permanently killed off here. Especially since the Alderode arc seems to be next.
I don't see why any character we know would go to Alderode without Duane leading them except maybe Quigley (and even that's a stretch)
Except Sette. She doesn't really want to go home, and she'd probably go to Alderode to help her attack zombie if that meant going there.
Plus she's sort of been there before.
I could see her potentially wanting to meet his daughter in person but ehhh basing the journey of book 2 off that (or any other reason I can think of) feels pretty flimsy compared to everything so far.

What death flags? Duane is absolutely not dying yet, his story has so much to resolve and to explore. And we know by word of God that he continues into book two.

I think Duane is going to have some cool adventures in the khert. He can't be written out of the story yet.

Duane will eventually discover how to project from something Sette has. Allowing him to be a punch ghost at the cost of having to follow Sette around immaterially.

Huh, so Quiggers is going with us to Alderode. That seems obvious.
And, frankly, seems perfectly sensible. For all that people have said he's raising death flags all the time, Quigley DOES have unfinished business in his native country. He has to make right his betrayal of Vienne and their cause, he has to deal with the Aldish state that used him and wrung him out and then discarded him, and he has to deal with his fellow Plats, who needed him only for him to abandon him, all those years ago.
The more I think about it, the more I think it makes sense. ALL the party's Alds will go back to Alderode, with Sette in tow. This seems eminently logical from a storytelling perspective.
Only question, I suppose, is what becomes of Jivi, since I am pretty sure we are parting ways with Toma and Elka here, after whatever happens to Cresce.
It'll be sad if Jivi and Sette part ways after they've finally become friends

Quigs fought off the Etalarche Curse through sheer self-hatred, it's possible he can mask himself from the Aldish lords, too. He's a unique soul, no telling what he's capable of.
There is no aldishman detector within the Dammakhert, otherwise they could have found out Foi-Hellick when he came into the salt lizard mines and stung him there before even activating the curse.
They specifically wouldn't sting him at that point because they wanted the curse to do the work, stinging takes the propaganda impact out of a dramatic and rare choice

Depends on how fast you read, you can clear it in a couple days if you're fast, but you'll likely miss some pretty important things that are easy not to notice on a speedread. I'd devote at least a couple weeks or a reread to it if you want to pick up on a lot of the details
