Ilganyag is extra spooky today, love it
Stop trying to steal the forward arrow, Sette, we use that shit
That was so cool, it really threw me for a loop
Yeah for real, the effect where her eyes just sorta "go out" and suddenly she's melting back into the darkness
It's feels like an ambush predator appearing with little warning and vanishing back into the shadows with even less
oh frick my dumbass didn't even notice that. There's 3 more goddamn pages I missed.
I haven't read since starfish died when the town got flooded. Should I pick it back up?
Absolutely, immediately
A bunch has happened since then. Some big happenings.
Get on it
Ashley has really outdone herself with this update, I've never seen another comic utilize multimedia quite like she does.
I swear if boo was the one fated to die...
nawls was kinda close but it leaned really heavily into the multimedia aspect to the point it kinda felt like more of a walking simulator game sometimes and not a webcomic.
Well, there was homestuck.
Homestuck isn't a comic. It's a very primitive video game.
It's so multimedia you don't consider it a comic anymore?
I wouldn't say that, but it doesn't use pictures + words the way a comic does. Instead it's prose supported by (usually single) illustrations, all paced like an old Sierra game.
That's how many German comics were in the past, are you saying they're not comics?
They had good typesetting. The typesetting in Unsounded is fricking horrendous. And panneling too.
Nobody cares. Autistically focusing on design like this is usually the last resort of people who can't draw lol
Doesn't read as a comic to me. Unless you're saying Little Golden Books are comics? And Pat the Bunny? lol
My favorite comic is Goodnight Moon
Mine is probably Sandman
Well, but it IS one of the longest running comics in the world.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mosaik
HS is long winded garbage
I like to think we are in an extrordinarily privileged position to read this as it's released and discus it with peers, and that Unsounded will be recognized in the 2050s as the literary achievement it is.
Back when it was alive Prequel was pretty up there with meta site frickery, I think Unsounded is generally a better comic but its use of multimedia stuff is much more conservative than Kazerad's.
>Back when it was alive Prequel was pretty up there with meta site frickery
lol
lmao even
I don't see what's funny about that statement
>Unsounded is generally a better comic
Your gift for understatement is unparalleled
How long has she been on that rock by now? 3 years?
Four. Four years.
Let us never speak of that thing again.
Okay so this just occurred to me. This isn't even the first time we've seen Sette's journey into the khert be represented by her breaking the fourth wall. And that's all very symbolic and metaphorical due to the nature of her literally breaking into the underpinnings of her reality.
But like, is that it? I've never even stopped to think if any of this is actually meant to point to the khert and its relationship with the setting of the story actually being something like a webcomic. At least in the sense of like, maybe why the khert exists has something to do with like, I don't know, weird gods looking for a good time. Something Animal Man-y, I mean. Actually thinking about that, there's another parallel there too in pick related.
I don't know, probably not. But it just struck me that I've never even stopped to think whether there might be more than gags here.
Also probably should've looked at the next page too.
Not that I seriously think Animal Man shit is going on here, but it's fun to notice similar meditations on art and human narratives. We really do seem to hang onto the worst shit, don't we?
Honestly, feel like Unsounded is going somewhere like this- what are the Creators (the gods that Lady I talks about) if not Authors? Ashley herself? The comic has a lot of talk revolving around the purpose of memory, history, stories- in what holding on to suffering and joy means- and the purposes of it all. Ashley has also said the choices in this chapter are pretty out there, and may not work with everyone
If I ever read this shit, this would be the page where I would stop reading altogether. It's fricking terrible.
>It's Morrison
No fricking wonder.
It's genuinely suffering from success IMO. It's only real "Web" comic out there and any other form (physical books, any animation adaptation) will be inferior because of it.
bro give that back what the frick
I was reading
Testing to see how much quality loss this is
Why didn't you read all the way to the end?
Not gonna lie anon, I didn't click the arrow after she picked it up
Because sette asked me to stop?
You're gonna go far in Sette's gang, anon
I know it's just a test, but you didn't even finish.
This reminds me of the children's story "The Monster at the End of this Book" with Grover.
You, yes (You) continue to click the arrow forward. Sette does not want you to click. Why do you do it?
God I was thinking the exact same thing
Read that all the time with my grandma as a kid
This update gave me unexpected feels
>Why do you do it?
I deeply, deeply enjoy seeing Sette suffer
The show must go on.
>We've been trying to reach you about your car's warranty.
Hmm. We know what Ilganyag wants with the Black Tongues, with Anadyne, with the Silver, with Prakhuta, with Duane... but what's the plan for Sette? We know she's somehow connected to Ilganyag but I don't think we've properly seen how. Nor do we know what Ilganyag wants with her at this moment.
The Lion may be part of the clue, of course.
Sette is obviously Ssael.
Your mom is obviously Ssael.
Sette is her babby
Tittybird is angry that she hasn't visited or at least called in several lifetimes
Well it's not like Tittybird has been on time with her child support payments
This quiet b***h in her corner making innovative narrative choices that I've literally never seen before and the comic world doesn't even give a shit
Well, "character fricks with the forward arrow" has been done. But too much attention can be a bad thing if you know what I mean.
I'd love to see some other examples, hook me up
Homestuck, maybe Prequel. I feel like there's another example I'm forgetting. Unsounded is unique in that it can do that kind of gimmick and maintain a high level of professionalism too.
All Night Laundry is one that did some fun stuff with the multimedia
All those breasts scare me too, Sette.
They're extraneous!
So Illganyag is definitely Sette's mom, right? Why is she being so mean?
She's everyone's mom. She bred the kasslynian landsquid species.
Idk, Sette and her fricked up furry brother probably came from Ssael's seed and Sessine's cloaca or head (like Athena from Zeus) if I had to guess, with the puzzle peices we have right now. But I've never been accused of being insightful. Sette is Illganyag's mistake.
>So Illganyag is definitely Sette's mom,
Not in a physical sense. Most likely whatever she and Ssael did to make khert/Dammakkhert causes sette and her bro to be born just like the different classes of alds. It's also what changed the Inaks into what they are now.
Inak legends can be taken with a grain of salt but not Shaensigin who was actually around and blames Alderode
I've always wondered the implications of this. Maybe inak share a common ancestor with vliegeng, and once had the ability to skate across khert lines? And this was somehow taken away with the invention of the Dammakhert?
My personal theory is that the Inak are somehow related to the agib. Maybe the Inak themselves are lesser agib changed into their current form. Or in past times the agib would be grafted to inak hearts for special powers and that stopped once they were slaughtered and the silver used to create the dammakhert.
No. Agib are senet beasts. They are not species in a traditional sense because they cannot reproduce, age or die of old age.
Inak are a species. From what we can tell. They used to be much more before they devolved.
>Inak are a species. From what we can tell. They used to be much more before they devolved.
https://unsoundedcomic.tumblr.com/post/175643047480/are-inaks-and-kedises-related-to-each-other-like/amp
Now they are, but was that always the case? They are not related to kedises and maybe to nothing in Kasslyne's biosphere. They say that they themselves were once gods, long before the humans evolved from pond slime.
It may just be that they once were senets in some sense.
I'd say more than a grain of salt. We get that story specifically to let us know there's something up. Maybe specifically to trip us up with Granny's bias, but I think the most important through lines are worth keeping in mind
>THEIR sky
>Ilganyag gave it to a man with an appetite like a LION
>the Inak were like Gods
Presumably their "sky" was their own kind of khert and it being given to the "man like a lion" is Ilganyag and Ssael conspiring to use the dammakhert for something, which as anon says, probably results in or was always meant to result in Sette and her bro. Something to keep in mind here is there is no khert in the sky now, it's tied directly to the land of the setting, and I think it's actually been said directly my Cope it's cause the land is made of dead Ogres.
What's always been interesting to me is this idea of Inak as gods and climbing the sky. And why the humans who came later have their minds jacked into this memory recording thing.
Wow, someone saved my shitty image.
Just because it's pitch black doesn't mean there are Black folk here, Anon. It just means that we can't know for sure until such a time in the story as we can ascertain whether Sette's bike has been stolen.
But anon, she has to find one to steal first
I love when ashley does these things
I mean, I literally laughed out loud on a bus full of strangers, and I didn’t even give a shit.
Well played, Cope, well played.
neat trick.
So is Sette's brother entering the real world too?
>Or it could mean something a little more
I dunno about you, but being labeled as the OG "Black Tongue" doesn't sound very positive... almost like, once upon a time, everything she said was regarded as "black" or poisonous.
>khert is dismantled
>the inak return to as they once were
>the strongest nations Alderode and Cresce in shambles
The resulting wars/slaughter/revenge will be unreal.
The khert cannot bw dismantled without destroying the entire world. It's literally build into the foundation.
Nice work
