Interesting that Duane said "sibling" instead of sister. Sette's twin was a boy but according to Ashley fraternal twins are unheard of in Kasylyne, so you think he would just say "sister".
This man is literally incapable of pulling his head out of his own ass for a single fricking second even when confronted with the glaring truth of Sette's childhood and her absolute desperation for literally any kind of parental affection whatsoever, holy shit it's great. Duane is the most self-centered combination of martyr complex and sanctimonious pillock I have ever had the pleasure of reading.
Like, he went from 'Holy shit this child lives in a kennel, this is horrible!' to waxing poetic about his own grand tragedy in like, five sentences.
This the khert and Duane knows he's in Sette's memories. He can't actually DO anything to help her, all of this is in the past. What's he going to do, punch the phantasm of Nary from more than five years ago?
I can't begrudge him the need to take stock of all that has occurred, now that all the things he has tried his hardest to ignore and avoid have been smashed into his face.
Even so, he says "I'll sort it," and then returns to business, even reminding Sette of the whole reason they are here. That strikes me as very grown up. He realizes they need to be about their plan and so he puts his troubles aside for another day.
I see nothing wrong with his behavior, given all he's gone through recently.
This right here. It's taken Duane a long time to realize and face his issues and even that was forced by the past slapping him in face, but at long last he sees glimpses of the light. As much posturing as he does, the man is not an emotional superhuman.
Duane is the revenant of a highly educated man of the cloth, and one who always had a big tank of copium on hand to suppress his freakouts whenever something upsetting couldn’t be cleanly rationalized away by his knowledge or his faith. The only way he could function after his inconceivable hell of being half back from his expected afterlife was to put together a paradigm of his life as a tragic opera, with himself as the cursed and larger-than-life protagonist.
The shitshow at the shrine broke through the foundations and got him to the point he can actually admit his mistakes and misgivings out loud. It’s a step in the right direction.

The only bone I can throw Duane at his moment is that he says 'today' which means all the events from the shrine are still pretty fresh on him
