As fun as Ruck has been throughout Unsounded, he’s well due for some righteous comeuppance. It may be now or it may come later, but at some point Ruck’s luck is going to run out and he’ll be joining the rest of his kind.

It would be absolutely hilarious if after all Ruck's scheming and murder, his ultimate fate is pic related.
>righteous comeuppance
lol it's plain cause-and-effect comeuppance now. Ruck's gotten so overconfident flagrantly exposing himself to spiderpaws that's he's somewhat forgotten how dangerous doing so is to senet beasts and why they conceal themselves from humans.

Classic. I can't wait for the Ruck "Don't Tread on me" memes.
Listen here you little homosexual, I've had enough. If you're going to post the secret Patreon comments then you're going to post the full res comics too.
Thinking about it, is there anything left for Ruck really to do in the story? He's fulfilled his role in Sonorie's plan; Roger has been completely drained. He's made Karl go away, fulfilling his promise to Chea. He MIGHT be a goner since I cant think of anything he still has to do that he hasn't done yet.
On the other hand, it would be funny if Ilganyag's plans are foiled by a fellow senet beast. I'm sure if Ruck intervened in Tittybird's schemes the only result would be everything getting worse, but still. He's a big organic sack of First Materials, she can't track him, predict him, or probably even counter him. I'm sure by now she knows OF him due to listening in on Bastion, but he's probably the biggest wild card left in terms of whether her plotting will go off without a hitch.
She's absolutely aware of Ruck, she can listen in through the Black Tongues torcs and is filling in the blanks by sifting through memories. She even chatted with Bastion about him. Hell, her entire plot with the silver hinges on Bell's attempted coup, which likely wouldn't have happened without Ruck's involvement.
>snek: oh hey queen, remember how we dissolved ROGER FOI-HELLICK's soul to reverse engineer the Etalarche curse so you can destroy Alderode >dwayne: ! >snek: but then you all went and spurned silly old me, so imma gonna eat you
INB4 Dwayne has to decide between schadenfreude and saving the queen for a bargaining chip
INB4 Ashley is not a hack – I guess, but snekman sure is
This would also probably make Bastion turn on the queen in an instant. I could see it happening.
>This would also probably make Bastion turn on the queen in an instant
I wouldn't peg (har har) Bastion as this nationalist; I think, depending on how peaceful the solution would, he could even be into it
Normally, yes, but then there's the suicidal frenzy part. I can't remember exactly what Bastion knows about Roger and the queen, but his actions right now are very much motivated by guilt and a wish to defy Ilganyag. But if Ruck mentions Roger's name and reminds Bastion of the connection, could he resist? He may not be weak-minded or stupid enough to attack the queen or Roger directly, but I could definitely see him being unwilling to stick around to help out of sheer etalarche spite.

It wouldn't hit Bastion right now because the khert is still on fire. Just like last time he was protected by being in Juste.

I don't think that's how it works - admittedly it's not very clear how the curse works, but my understanding is that the way it didn't apply between Juste and the khert fire in the mines was different.
The curse doesn't work in Juste, because it has a custom khert with whatever feature it uses to tell "yep, that's a ROGER FOI-HELLICK" disabled (probably the same one the weeping plague uses?). While in the mines the reason it didn't initially work was because the curse couldn't propagate from the Dammakhert hubs to aldish minds _through_ the fire. But when the mind becomes infected, it only needs the khert to provide that "yep, that's a ROGER FOI-HELLICK" feature and I'd imagine as long as the khert is not broken enough for humans to liquefy on the spot, the curse will mostly function (even if with dimnished range).

This is also my read on it. And we've seen Ald raiders still looking for Roger through the khert-fire this very chapter.

It's also good to remember that every Ald infected with "yep, that's a ROGER FOI-HELLICK" acts as a hotspot to send more pings out of "yep, that's a ROGER FOI-HELLICK." So being in a Khert fire doesn't matter if you're also around those who already downloaded the virus.

>Let's hack the Khert to magically enforce our state eugenics program, with the side benefit that every Ald gains the ability to function as a wi-fi router, what could possibly go wrong?
So excited for Book 2, we NEED to learn more about the Dammakhert, what the frick were they thinking
gotta say, little disappointed with how sette's reaction to ruck was handled. even her dialogue here seems half-baked and unnecessary.
why not just keep her busy with more red ghosts instead of coming up with some cheap solution to her being way too overpowered for one of the story's main villains.
"would YOU touch the snake readers???"
maybe not but i also don't have frickin claws coming out of my hands or the ability to destroy everything by reaching through a goddamn window into reality
Sette is a traumatized kid and Ruck is a twelve foot tall rape monster older than time, you'll forgive her for flinching

I think Sonorie as well as Chea are not only bargaining chips but for Ilganyag a way to counter Ruck too. As anon
On the other hand, it would be funny if Ilganyag's plans are foiled by a fellow senet beast. I'm sure if Ruck intervened in Tittybird's schemes the only result would be everything getting worse, but still. says he could potentially hinder or interrupt Ilganyag's plans altogether. What a coincidence he's become a direct threat to Chea whom out of everyone there Sette and Duane would want to protect.
Starfish. Murkoph and Ruck are monsters and any sane person realises it on first sight. Starfish can (could) blend in well enough that he can predate on his victims. Starfish also managed to build his own gang and ingratiate himself into a criminal power structure. Such corrupt systems tend to be hard to crack. Starfiah could have continued his activities for decades without being stopped.
Ruck's only alive because the spiderpaws in power never actually backstab him first. Murkoph is...a dude with a knife? What harm would he even do if he got out of the Khert? Kill a couple dozen or a few hundred people until authorities catch him. He isn't exactly inconspicuous.
Murkoph is way worse. Starfish is pathetic which is why he prays on children. Ruck is objectively the most dangerous but he's also just an animal who no matter how much he ages will never change. He was built in a specific way and he can only act in a specific way.
Ruck is the worst as he's an entity alien yet hostile predator to humanity. Murkoph is next worse, then Starfish in terms of danger to people in general.

consider how khert fires, pymarics, etc affect her differently than they do most people
it's not unreasonable that an efheby would elicit a visceral reaction in her as well considering what they do
I think it'd work better if it was more clearly directed toward Duane. "Dwayne, what is that thing?" Even if he's not in the state of mind to give her any guidance right now. As it is it reads kinda weird, and not just because Sette needs to be temporarily handicapped by fear for the drama to unfold.
well ruck's been nothing but cordial to chea I'm sure this will be fine
he even made karl go away and everything

side note, I just forgot the bracket, that wasn't to suggest I'm Ashley
Whatever you say, Ashley.
Hi, Ashley!
I love you mom
Not barehandedly, but Sette could use her environment to her advantage. Pelt him with a chunk of wreckage or something.
Listen here you little homosexual, I've had enough. If you're going to post the secret Patreon comments then you're going to post the full res comics too.
do you beg for everything in your life?
jesus frick, here's your patreon comic Black person, will you shut the frick up now?
Why would you reward the idiot?

I AM CONCERNED
Should I recognize who Ruck is messily devouring, or is it just some poor random bastard Crescian or Black Tongue?
one of the queen's invisible bodyguards from earlier, we saw the others last page
I assume Ruck finally eats it here but manages to bite Sette so we can see what his venom does to her...unique physiology
Does rucks venom actually do anything if he's dead? I assumed his bites were just an extension of his soul sucking powers
the venom knife works, and it doesn't seem connected to him in any way.

Who's Ruck?
The large and rapey snake
Is he like the bad guy?
He's a major boss the devs put a lot of love and care into, but not the endboss.
Oh. Who's the endboss?
Matty
This comic has so many intersecting keikakus it's kinda hard to tell
It will be Mikaila vs Duane in a Metal Gear styled true endboss confrontation of wills.

Just look around for a stick, Sette. I know you can do it.
Who's worse
>Ruck
>Starfish
>Murkoph
Starfish. Murkoph and Ruck are monsters and any sane person realises it on first sight. Starfish can (could) blend in well enough that he can predate on his victims. >a fat guy raping kids is worse than hundreds of murders by a crazy guy
okay mr child victim
Murkoph is way worse. Starfish is pathetic which is why he prays on children. Ruck is objectively the most dangerous but he's also just an animal who no matter how much he ages will never change. He was built in a specific way and he can only act in a specific way.
A serial killer who can offset seems like bad news to me.
Ruck is the worst as he's an entity alien yet hostile predator to humanity. Murkoph is next worse, then Starfish in terms of danger to people in general.
There it is. Ashley's Tumblr avatar.
I wanted to see ruck verus sette. I wonder if his first material will protect him from her abilities.
gotta say, little disappointed with how sette's reaction to ruck was handled. even her dialogue here seems half-baked and unnecessary.

I feel like you're assuming that just because Sette can do these things, she's suddenly immune to fear and not just a kid well out of her depth
consider how khert fires, pymarics, etc affect her differently than they do most people
it's not unreasonable that an efheby would elicit a visceral reaction in her as well considering what they do

Next week gonna be good. Can't wait to see daddy T save his daughter (or see her being consumed) from Ruck.
