Lady is having the time of her life right now at Sette's expense. LOL. LMAO EVEN. b***h can't read, lmaoo. Sette's is literally about to lose her mind. Duane is going to think she's still playing. But Sette ain't going to take this easily. Duane better be careful, really careful. If she can control him without the amulet, he's not in a good position right now. He has to be reaaal gentle with her with this. She's been played by Lady I just like him.

      >Duane is going to think she's still playing.
He knows she’s illiterate. And if he were calm, he’d also know there’s a strong possibility he had been controlled in the past. But in his current state, who can say what conclusion he’ll jump to?

      Anonymous

Are we really sure she's controlling him with this revelation? Is it just some extension of these powers she has with the claws? What if he's just a b***h to her feminine, childish admonishment as a result of his situation?

        Anonymous

I think it's because of her eyes.

Then how does she control him at night when he's a zombie? Wait, zombies are pymarics, which she has influence over (Swarm, Boo, etc.) but I can't believe she wouldn't have noticed this by now. Was the amulet designed to somehow bring out her existing powers?

          Anonymous

No. It's just a fake amulet that they used so sette wouldn't find out that she has incredible powers.

Either they can feel Duane about to snap or they’re trying to get him to snap. These pages are killing me, and the double page coming up tells me that’s when it’s going down.

The eels are congregating because for all that they're actually being truly honest with each other and themselves for the first time, they're tearing open basically every mental wound that they have ever suffered at the same time.
The eels are attracted to pain, and both Duane and Sette are currently putting out ten million jiggawatts of emotional agony

I like that the comic isn't treating love as a cure-all which smooths out all the rough edges and leads to a fairytale happy ending, but more as a match falling into a gasoline tanker
It's a nice change of pace to see the emotional confession not only fail to fix the major character flaws, but amplify the suffering by several orders of magnitude

Sette or people very much like her, seems to have a sort of... recurring existence, and the blacktongues helped deliver her. So if the blacktongues already know about what "Settes" can do, bastion just needs to have heard about that.

Setting aside that tittybird may have just said to do it.

Fair enough. Though I'd feel like Bastion or the Black Tongues would be keeping a closer eye on her, but right now none of them seem to care about her existence in all these shenanigans.

Pymarics obey her. She did this to Quigley's swarm, and Boo does not really behave as he should for a ghost-haunted object.

Theoretically speaking we can't exactly rule out that this piece of israeliteelry contains real magic.

No, I think the 'magic' was always in Sette, and this amulet existed for no other reason than to keep her from cottoning to that fact.

Who's more likely to freak out here, Sette or Duane? I feel like this is going to be a bigger blow to Settle, because it means she got tricked and that this isn't really a show of trust and love like she thought it was going to be, I doubt Duane will think she tried to trick him though, he knows she's illiterate

So I'm going to guess he'll call her a liar, she freaks out about it. And uses her powers on him without the amulet in her hand. Then we get the traumatic scene of whatever Ashley was talking about.

Sounds about right, he's in a bad spot and not very rational. He'll probably turn into looking into a zombie and maybe while it's happening and Sette will cry and say she wants the other Duane back while everything begins to escalate with the eels

They needed a way to justify "you can control the attack zombie" to sette that doesn't just outright tell her she has some kind of broad control over pymaric constructs.

It depends on how aware they are of Sette's weirdness. It could be they just gave her some trinket to make her feel safe and she accidentally stumbled into using her Sette powers by thinking it was the amulet. Or the whole purpose was to make her do that.

        Anonymous

Given that Duane was merchandise to be moved, I doubt they just gave her the amulet for no reason. It was "supposed' to be her way of moving him. If it's fake, that can likely only mean Bastion knew something about Sette all along (or was given a tittybird nudge).

          Anonymous

I mean, Sette reminding him of Miki has always been more important for manipulating him than any magical bullshit going on. It's kinda hard knowing how much anyone involved in any of this actually knew until we find out what tittybird's plan is.

            Anonymous

Still, Duane is probably asking himself right now, 'how much of my own will is my own?' He's spent most of this comic insisting he's still a person, not a construct, and this is the closest he's gotten to evidence contradicting that. It's gotta be deeply frightening.

            Anonymous

Yeah, it might that whatever random blood is in it and whatever enchantment Bastion put on it is enough to keep night-time zombie-mode Duane calm. Sette would't need any kind of special pymary to make a simple plod walk where she wanted at night.

Sette would have confused that with whatever inbuilt power she has to make day-time galit Duane do what she wants. From her point of view it would be far more logical than suspecting she had magical stuper powers.

The thing is Ashley is making it sound like it was just some trinket Bastion bought in Sharteshane. It probably smells bad because someone at Beadmans sweatshop farted on it or some shit.

And that could still be true even if he did make it a plod controller. We saw in the book two bone-arse comic that pymery workshops could be hired in Sharteshane.

Night-time Duane hasn't really been explained much. We've seen in the shrine and the hotel where he ate one of Starfish's goons that he can be out of control. But also he lived by himself in New Tawhoque for a few years and was apparently not roaming the streets eating children during that time. How he managed himself I don't think we've seen.

Goddamn, outfoxed again. I really enjoy how seemingly none of us can agree on anything about where this is headed. Even for obviously telegraphed things like Sara's death and Mikaila being alive, the anons who called it ahead of time were shouted down by a chorus of "nahhh"

      [...] (me)
Shouldve read the literal next post doofus

I’m reminded of the half-elf twist in Dungeon Meshi. All the evidence was laid out, but the collective assumption that in-character conversations could be taken at face value had a lot of inertia right up to the moment of explicit revelation.

People did actually theorize that Marcille was a half elf. I remember one of the big things was how thick her ears were compared to nearly every other elf in the story. And her being told that her life will run differently compared to everyone else at her father's funeral.

          Anonymous

Plus, it doesn't help when the people pointing it out are doing so by memeing about how "Marcille has FAT , loose EARS". Like sure, it's a funny enough joke (at least the first few times...), but it doesn't make you inclined to take it seriously.

A LOT of people actually predicted the half elf thin surprisingly early.

However there was one guy, maybe more, who really really HATED that theory. Any time it was brought up in Cinemaphile or /tg/ or evern reddit one time he would have a huge screaming crying death threat sending tantrum about it so people stopped bringing it up.

She's right. Duane has made the point about his materials mastery multiple times. It comes up pretty regularly, in fact. He's downright vain about it (for good reason). We were hoodwinked, bamboozled, perhaps even schmekeldorfed.

Now I’m just being pig headed.
But taking this new information and fitting it into the in-universe meta, costume israeliteellery?
It kind of doesn’t fit, not in the sense we use it here. Plus it’s ugly as frick.

The more sensible sense for “costume israeliteellery” in this universe… It’d be pretty literal. israeliteellery that makes a costume, especially as it isn’t even slightly aesthetically pleasing like a string of glass beads etc. etc..

Now I know we have word of god that it doesn’t have unusual - or even any - pyromantics, but it still doesn’t make much in-universe sense that costume israeliteellery is identical in sense to what we have.

      >It kind of doesn’t fit, not in the sense we use it here. Plus it’s ugly as frick.
Sette's probably only worn it once the way it was actually meant to be worn. Also the only time she brushed her hair. She kind of rocked it.

Also, Cope didn't say it had no pymarics. She said Duane checked it when he held it and it was a nothingburger. It does have some pymaric function, because it glows in the dark.

Most of the flashier pymarics and glamours we've seen have been used by people who are either fairly well off, or skilled wrights themselves. This strikes me more as more of a bauble meant for people who can't afford that kind of thing.

It's like those "VR headsets" that are actually just harnesses to hang your smartphone in front of your face.

Pymary from the hands is easy. Pymary stored in objects is more complicated.

If the object doesn’t have first materials in it, the pymary won’t last. And FMs are expensive. And the more complex the pymary, the more capacitous you need the FM to be to contain it.

Most people don’t have pymaric objects unless they’re wealthy. Most of the cheap pymaric we see are dead simple and either designed to be recyclable, or use the cheapest FM possible (in this case, first earth/sand, iirc.)

It’s far easier and cheaper to have some nickel-plated crap. And ugly, gaudy, nickel-plated crap will always sell *somewhere*. I’m looking at you, Hot Topic.

That's the entire point of costume general is that it looks pretty on first glance and sort of resembles the expensive stuff but it's made with cheap/inexpensive materials. This is just gaudy sharte mass produced stuff made to look vaguely exotic

Consider: It is not beyond a Sharteshanian to sell "costume israeliteellery" to suckers on their assumption that it is israeliteellery that will generate a costume when it is, in fact, just israeliteellery meant to be worn as part of a costume.

      Caveat emptor, you dumb saps.

Has Cope ever confirmed or denied if Bastion was the black tounge who delivered Sette and her brother? He has extensive knowledge as a doctor, and as such would be just the black tounge you'd want if a woman was having a miscarriage. Plus, he could have worn a glamour so Nary wouldn't recognise him later on
It would also explain how he know so much about Sette, as he could have examined her brother's corpse and watched her over the years. Maybe lady I even nudged him along to get to that point where he'd inevitably be interested in Sette

I'm not sure what the timeline of Bastion's life and Sette's birth are, exactly, but why would he need to be involved? Presumably tittybird was still talking to the Black Tongues when Sette was born anyway, so it's not like Bastion specifically had to be there.
