I like that the comic isn't treating love as a cure-all which smooths out all the rough edges and leads to a fairytale happy ending, but more as a match falling into a gasoline tanker
It's a nice change of pace to see the emotional confession not only fail to fix the major character flaws, but amplify the suffering by several orders of magnitude
Honestly the comic has a great balance of it. Fairy tale love moments but love can still make things worse. Really, really good.

It depends on how aware they are of Sette's weirdness. It could be they just gave her some trinket to make her feel safe and she accidentally stumbled into using her Sette powers by thinking it was the amulet. Or the whole purpose was to make her do that.
Given that Duane was merchandise to be moved, I doubt they just gave her the amulet for no reason. It was "supposed' to be her way of moving him. If it's fake, that can likely only mean Bastion knew something about Sette all along (or was given a tittybird nudge).
I mean, Sette reminding him of Miki has always been more important for manipulating him than any magical bullshit going on. It's kinda hard knowing how much anyone involved in any of this actually knew until we find out what tittybird's plan is.
Still, Duane is probably asking himself right now, 'how much of my own will is my own?' He's spent most of this comic insisting he's still a person, not a construct, and this is the closest he's gotten to evidence contradicting that. It's gotta be deeply frightening.

My mistake was trusting in Sette's ability to smell pymary.
The thing is Ashley is making it sound like it was just some trinket Bastion bought in Sharteshane. He wouldn't have had the equipment needed to burn spells into it and it's not made out of first materials anyway. It probably smells bad because someone at Beadmans sweatshop farted on it or some shit.

Night-time Duane hasn't really been explained much. We've seen in the shrine and the hotel where he ate one of Starfish's goons that he can be out of control. But also he lived by himself in New Tawhoque for a few years and was apparently not roaming the streets eating children during that time. How he managed himself I don't think we've seen.
He probably just chained himself up and that was the end of it.

I’m reminded of the half-elf twist in Dungeon Meshi. All the evidence was laid out, but the collective assumption that in-character conversations could be taken at face value had a lot of inertia right up to the moment of explicit revelation.
People did actually theorize that Marcille was a half elf. I remember one of the big things was how thick her ears were compared to nearly every other elf in the story. And her being told that her life will run differently compared to everyone else at her father's funeral.

If the object doesn’t have first materials in it, the pymary won’t last. And FMs are expensive. And the more complex the pymary, the more capacitous you need the FM to be to contain it.
Most people don’t have pymaric objects unless they’re wealthy. Most of the cheap pymaric we see are dead simple and either designed to be recyclable, or use the cheapest FM possible (in this case, first earth/sand, iirc.)
