So is Quigley basically channeling his auto-hate for Roger into a hate for his wife and his son?

    That's kind of terrifying.

And for himself, don't forget that. He just hates himself hard enough to spread some around.

      >So is Quigley basically channeling his auto-hate for Roger into a hate for his wife and his son?
Dunno if it's outright hatred for them, more of an intense resentment.
Quigley and Vienne both saw existence as Plats as shit and living in Alderode as shit and decided when they got married that they wouldn't be bringing any kids into the world to suffer as they have.
And as seen here and in the past few pages, he has the same intense hatred for THAT SIMPERING WORM as every other Ald, and absolutely detests that fact to his core.
But then Vienne changed her mind at some point and made the unilateral decision to have Matty.
Now Quigley does love Matty the kid's literally the only reason he hasn't offed himself but he also intensely resents his very existence, in part because this world is suffering and he didn't want to add to it.
And being at ground zero of the hate plague is making him feel that even stronger than usual.

there’s some interesting parallels to Duane here, Quigley has had to construct a love-hate relationship to keep going and keep himself from offing himself.

Not because of religious faith but out of love for his son.

I guess this is the point where he tells them Silverfish has Matty and offered a trade for Sette?

I'm honestly surprised the Etelarche curse still works with the Khert on fire.

Well they are already infected. I think the first time it delayed everything because it was stopping the infection from reaching them til the fires went out. But they've already been infected by the curse for years at this point.

So yeah, it's kinda a monument to Quigley's self loathing that he's as sane as he is.

      Anonymous

Only way to escape the curse is to go to Juste thanks to the pocket dimension thing then never enter the vicinity of a Dammakhert-enabled Khert hub again. The khert fire in Duane's flashback chapter only delayed the infection since Roger and his entourage were in the middle of the fire when it was first enabled.

Soon all Quigleys will be dead. This last one has to die first.

That is the coolest shit. Major props to him. The amount of detail on Uaid (especially the wall tentacle things) is fantastic, but the amount of work for all those flowers, trees, and especially the sloped landscape is a whole nother level of dedication.

People thought Matty was going to die last chapter because "realism". Ash may put us through the ringer, but she still has been following general rules of storytelling. So far nobody particularly important has just suddenly died out of nowhere (at least nobody confirmed yet). Important characters have generally died when it was a good dramatic moment for them to die. And Quigs has one of the most interesting arcs of the main characters. I doubt Ash is gonna just off him for the sake of "gritty realism".

Pretty sure Toma and blue lizard are about to frick shit up any moment now. Quigs isn't gonna die at the hands of Bell of all people. Not before seeing Matty one last time.

That would be nice, maybe. I'm not entirely sure. Quigs genuinely needs someone or something to put him out of his misery. Not even like in condemnation or absolution, the guy just needs to go

          Anonymous

Yeah, but basic storytelling tells us he's gonna see his son at least one last time. Matty is the entire crux of his character arc. Would be unsatisfying for him to die before seeing Matty at least one last time.

            Anonymous

It depends on what you mean by unsatisfying not all resolutions are supposed to be. Especially if you want something to be more "realistic" rather than something that's all narrative based beats.

    >That's the kind of power OUR cresce will wield
He wants the Dammakhert. He wants to Etalarche his own countrymen. And then, he pokes at the curse at someone he barely even knows, a near complete stranger, technically not even an enemy as far as he knows.

Not in comic, Ashley mentioned in her tumblr blog that he’s planning to bring a similar system as Alderode to Cresce.

Not sure if that includes castes or just the mind influencing bits

          >win war through abuse of system
          >want same system for your own people
Damn, that's moronic. I thought he meant they were going to hijack the Dammakhert and have total power over Alderode. As in, do what we say or we curse your ass. Then again, Bell isn't the sharpest tool in the box.

They're losers who didn't deserve it, so the Gods are striking them down through Bell. Bell is the only one truly following the Gods, so of course anything he does will last forever. It's simple, ironclad logic my friend.

  8. 11 months ago

Not 100% sure I grasp Bell's gist here. Does he think Quigs is still walking around even though he's bleeding out of his face because of the curse?

      Anonymous

It does seem he is laboring under the mistaken belief that the curse is affecting Quiggles as much as it did the dudes who kamikazed their sky sneks. He might not be a familiar as his minion is with plats either, who says that he's bleeding because of the khert fire.

I'm wondering if Bell knows it doesn't affect souds too.

There is so much stuff going on in this chapter I can't help but feel it suffers for it. So many different things are happening, so rapidly, that their individual impact is diluted. Like, we have Sette, Duane, Emil and Elka, Jivi, Quigley, Flann and co., Queen and co., Erm. and co., Bell, Prakhuta, Ilganyag, Ana, Knock, Silverfish (very briefly lmao), and the pain babies, each with their own thing happening, each given emphasis at neck and neck.

It's exciting now that we're getting live updates, but I feel the pacing will really suffer by being too rapid when archive reading this. Though admittedly it does fit the chaotic theme of the chapter.

I feel the opposite. When I reread One Piece the post timeskip arcs that really started to balloon in length, scope, and the sheer size of the cast read better when you could read them all at once, or over the course of a few days anyway. The through lines and subplots become easier to follow because they're always fresh in your mind, unlike now where you have to keep reminding yourself who is doing what where and why.

It's fun to be hear for each HAPPENING and to discuss with others what might be going on or about to happen, but there's also entertainment in just seeing it all laid out before you, completed. Especially since the end of this chapter will really be The End for the foreseeable future.
