I'm thinking the lion and monkey thing next to it are supposed to be Duane and Sette.

Not sure what both Sara and Siya being there is supposed to mean, given that Sara is turbo-dead.

There is no time in the khert. The dead and the living would exist at the same time there.

It's a cloud though there it seems like something in it but I can't quite tell what. At one angle, it kinda looks like Duane's hood with his face looking away from the viewer,

      I don't think it's so complicated
This is definitely where the Bell train finally stops. I wouldn't actually be too surprised if either Ana or Prakhuta die here, but one of them and the monster need to escape destruction and make it up north. Maha and Duane probably come to some form of agreement that lets him pursue the Silver to Alderode. Presumably without him becoming aware of her plans with Roger

        Anonymous

Who do we KNOW makes it to Alderode?

Duane and Sette absolutely. Do we know for certain that anyone else is going north? Whose arc is not likely to be finished with just a chapter to go in this first book?

Jivi is likely to make it at least to the ship to Alderode, if indeed it will be his mom's ship that the gang will travel on.

Not to mention that Jivi and Sette kind of have unfinished business. Frankly, their rivalry has become one of the bigger undercurrents in the comic. Yeah, I can see Jivi going north.

          Twofold
One: The vision Tittybird showed Duane in the Khert of the silver attacking Durlyne
Two: It seems pretty central to Tittybird's plans and I'm not so sure how the comic continues if her Keikaku dies like this

Go and read Moby Dick, Anons: I thought it would be boring as shit but it fricking owns and it's really funny. Also, the protagonist shares a bed with a hunky South Seas cannibal dude, in a totally not-gay way.

I think the meaning behind the characters in the nest is that these are the characters Sette and Duane will be leaving behind at the end of this book. Remember that the end of this chapter is the end of the book and therefore the story. As in, it's an ending that doesn't require a sequel (despite knowing there's a sequel).

Where Duane and Sette go from here I suspect none of the characters in the nest will follow whether they be dead or alive. And it makes sense really because past this point there's no necessity for them to stay together. Duane must return to Alderode, which means the Crescians cannot follow and neither can the Plats as they would be vulnerable to stings.

It feels so weird that we're letting all these characters go but past this point they really have no good reason to stay with Duane. I'm really looking forward to the final scenes where everyone still alive is sitting together sharing a meal where they can square the story of the adventure - mostly Duane telling his story to the adults.

      I think you're right.
I'll be sad to see these characters go, but Ashley is so good at giving characters unique voices that I'm also excited to meet a new group of lads and lasses

Some Crescians could follow in the same way that Shartes will, by sticking to the Aldish underworld, but I agree that it's unlikely

if jivi's mom features in the next book it seems weird that he'd be left out of it

Some Crescians could follow in the same way that Shartes will, by sticking to the Aldish underworld, but I agree that it's unlikely

It is just plainly suicide for a black person to appear in Alderode. And Jivi cannot speak the language so their cover would be blown immediately. And it would seem logical for Duane to walk around in plain daylight masquerading as a high-official, which he was.

Duane was incredibly confident that his assassins would get caught. They only made it into the country and planned to get out if the assassination went off without a hitch but it didn't and it was very obvious they were all caught. One mistake from Jivi is all it would take to frick up everything. And let's be real here Jivi probably is done with adventure. His entire life these past couple weeks since we met him has been real fricking bad and I can't imagine him not choosing a normal life from here on out. The kid's going to have PTSD guaranteed.

I'm hoping we spend a little more time in Crease. It felt like we were building up to Duane getting a face to face with the Queen, but after the revelations at the shrine he would decide not to violently murder her.

Duane saving Sonorie and her granddaughter while yodeling about Aldish Superiority could be good times.

I'm trying to think of any reason how the Queen could speak to Duane but I don't see it happening. A private audience is out of the question. The security required for a proper audience would mean the Queen is meeting with another Aldishman and that's just no good for the rumourmill. Even Emil vouching wouldn't count for much. It would also require revealing what Duane is in the screening process, which I'm pretty sure nobody wants. And this is on top of the fact that Duane has no idea what is going on really and at any given the time the Queen is surrounded by at least half a dozen conspiracies that would LOVE to get a hold of Duane.

Another thing is that we cannot really expect the team to have that much a significant impact against the silver to standout. It's a certainty that the Queen is surrounded by a dozen Duanes and Keons at this moment not to mention leaders of the Black Tongues and Ruck and I feel like they will be doing the bulk of the fight against the silver. Whatever "boon" Duane receives at the end of this will be provided by Elka or Toma paying in communist-bux without anybody really knowing.

The assassination plot against the Queen may force things to go differently. Bell would have compromised her protection, so Toma and Duane crashing into a fleeing Queens party isn't out of the question.
