They were explaining good practices like where to place your root folder, which is the folder that holds all your shit for all the shit you're doing. And half the lab were struggling with this and my friend was like "well, it's easy, you just place it somewhere that's accessible but not protected like your Program Files folder" and they looked at her blankly because they didn't know folders existed elsewhere than the laptop.
These are kids (through no fault of their own), who are in computer science, who didn't have to fricking touch computers while in high school, who ONLY know how to use tablets or their phones. Now you apply that phone-only browsing lifestyle to everyone over the age of 50 who only just got on the Internet sometime in the past decade.

And the tragedy is that when this place dies it will be because of people who solely used this place to rage and will brush off responsibility when it was in large part their fault that it went to shit and the site will be remembered as a place of shitters.
This is/was the last place on the Internet where people cared.

But now, it's just anger without the care. And without the caring the anger just becomes masturbatory and useless because the people don't care about why there's a cause to be angry only that there's an excuse to be angry. And without the incentive to care, people aren't bringing the positive reasons to care either. And the people who do have positive feelings about something are shouted down without good reason because the uncaring mob is only here to get angry.
And unfortunately the people who do care and are angry were too slow to realize that a lot of the other angry people didn't actually care, they just wanted to watch something burn to ashes, which isn't something the people who care want; the people who care and are angry want the thing they care about fixed and repaired to its original quality that made them care so much in the first place.
Something should have been done to block posting from mobile devices. Even if there are apps that would bypass such barriers, spoofing a PC for example, it would have filtered out a lot of the people who post while sitting on the shitter and have no incentive to follow up on the engagement after they drop their deuce both in the toilet and the thread leaving behind a hateful mess for everyone else to have to deal with.
