Upcoming cartoons in 2024

Anything interesting coming out?

So far this year we've had Hazbin Hotel as the biggest highlight of the year and that's ending soon. I think Arcane season 2 is also releasing at the end of the year. It's up the air if we're getting more from The Amazing Digital Circus this year. With Helluva it's confirmed we're going full swing into it after Hazbin's finale. Looks like a pretty ded/empty year overall unless I'm missing something?

Shows from picture:
The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy
Batman: Caped Crusader
X-Men '97
Invincible Fight Girl
Creature Commandos
Helluva Boss

    Cartoons are falling apart

I think it was the creator of The Ghost and Molly McGee that was complaining how TV networks/production companies are struggling really badly to figure out a new monetization system/format that actually works, hence why shit is getting cancelled left and right, unless it's an instant success which never happens.

It's kind sad to think that the rest of the 2020's may end up being nothing but spin-offs/reboots/re-imaginings/sequels of existing properties with nothing original coming out.

Is indie stuff gonna be the only place to find exciting high quality productions with creative new ideas? I think Hazbin, Helluva and Digital Circus really set the tone in that regard, I'm sure the moronic corporate suits are super confused why such wacky random ideas are so successful with the younger audiences.

Speaking of younger audiences, cable TV is absolutely dead and will become the equivalent of VHS tapes to present day kids, no surprises there. Streaming has gone to shit, Netflix won the streaming wars big time and their animated output is questionable/shitty at best with a bunch of wannabe "anime" style cartoons. Netflix also ruthlessly cancel the majority of their cartoons, but it's pretty warranted since they mostly suck balls.

If anything Youtube won the streaming wars even more since everyone uses the site daily you can find any possible niche on there. With the smash hit successful things we've seen from Vivziepop and Glitch Productions, I wonder if future creators are gonna try to stick on YT as their main platform or get funding like Viv did for Hazbin.

It's not looking any better in the animated movie realm, pretty bleak outlook not gonna lie. Of course we have a bunch of great anime coming out still, but Western cartoons are pretty much fricked.

Yup, their content is mostly doo-doo, but they did undeniably win the streaming war. Their only real competitor is Youtube, which has a different appeal.

          >The animation style can be best compared to the animated series “Archer.” Since then, much of what we know has been relegated by the X-Men ’97 team at press events, featuring teases of the X-Men fighting Sentinels and first looks at the team in action. Many fans have been waiting excitedly for any news about this highly anticipated new show, and we’re happy to be able to provide an update on when X-Men ’97 is set to hit Disney+!
Does that mean it going to be tweened animated.
I would have rather took the CG cel shading than the embarrassment of 2D animation that uses puppet riggs.

It seems we only get trailers nowadays like a month or so before cartoons launch and I have to wonder if the main reason is them trying to hide how bad shit's gonna look. It's gonna be funny in the case of X-Men 97 if the OG cartoon looks better.

I guess it could happen, the whole streaming distribution model seems unviable but before Netflix crashes all the other small fry will go to hell first. And Netflix's brand recognition is just too strong.

The original series director is returning to direct it (absent from S6) and the new producer was formally a producer at Moonscoop (Code Lyoko).

Crazy to see how much longevity the series has had over the years. If the new season finds success we'll probably see it make a full comeback again. If the original director is on board that sounds like a good sign.

Even mid range anime of the past year or two are blowing the best that cartoons made in the same timeframe out of the water.

This show wasn't even popular, and you can't post anything western animated from 2023 that doesn't look like a teenager drew it in the back of their notebook.

Such a kino OP, one of the best from last year for sure. Magus Bride is relatively popular, it's just been a long time since season 1 aired so not as many people had the chance to catch up to it.

              Anonymous

Don't get me wrong, it directly appeals to my niche interests and I love it to death. But it was by no means wildly popular or even especially well animated compared to other anime of the year. In arguments like this people tend to cherrypick a lot and only put the very best against the very worst, but its much more useful to pick something thats nearer to middle of the road as a comparison point. Shinkai movies look gorgeous, but pretending that most anime looks like that is simply a lie.

      >May the Hellaverse run forever.
      Amen.

Batman; Caped Crusader, X-Men 97, Helluva Boss

Are the only shows pictured that interest me.

The other upcoming cartoons that interest me are Uzumaki, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, Marvel Zombies, and Suicide Squad Iskeai.

Those three are the things that interest me the most as well.

Uzumaki is a meme at this point, will it ever release? I didn't know we're getting a new Spider-Man cartoon, it's from Disney though so I will keep my expectations low.

Murder Drones will be finishing its last two episodes for the foreseeable future starting in the spring.

We'll probably hear more about Circus after that I suppose.

      >>I think it was the creator of The Ghost and Molly McGee that was complaining how TV networks/production companies are struggling really badly to figure out a new monetization system/format that actually works,
Why not go back to Blu Ray, 4K HD as well as I don't know make some damn merchandise?

People just don't collect disc media anymore, the only exception are the biggest of the biggest movies of the year and shows with super dedicated fanbases. There is a niche of collectors that buy older stuff that gets re-released but it's a tiny market. The merch could work but corporations are too incompetent to figure out merch properly, which is especially aggravating when it's a kid's show which allows for much better reach. Vivziepop's merch sells like crazy and single-handedly funds Helluva at this point so it is bizarre how the big cartoon companies just don't seem to be able to do it right for their new properties.

      >>Yup, their content is mostly doo-doo, but they did undeniably win the streaming war. Their only real competitor is Youtube, which has a different appeal.

Although Amazon Prime gave them a decent fight.

Prime Video has the huge advantage of being included with Amazon Prime, that alone will keep them alive and an active player along Netflix, they just won't be as popular. But if Amazon continue to make moronic decisions like funding billion dollar flop shows like the Rings of Power then they'll also get fricked completely.

And even then, those super dedicated fanbases usually don't seem to get that. Network/Production companies need to stop being so wary of Disc Media, because however small a market there is, it's still a Market and if they play there cards right, could experience the growths that Vinyls have had for the last decade.

It's even more aggravating when merchandisers reach out to those corporations expressing interest in making merch for said series and are either Ghosted or turned down. It's honestly dumbfounding these companies refuse to allow merchandise aside for the occasional book or T-Shirt, it's a disgrace, plain and simple.

Prime Video certainly won't be as popular but they'll likely continue having better projects.

Most corporate slop companies are pushing hard towards digital only releases but people don't care enough to buy digital files or rent them and simple pirate instead. Even in gaming they're pushing more and more to digital only consoles. But it has obviously backfired since a lot of money was made in the past from disc releases and now all of that is gone due to corporate people being stupid. I'm not sure if the vinyl phenomenon is gonna be replicated, CD/DVD's are just cheap plastic junk and don't have the same colorful collectible hipster appeal that vinyls have.

At the end of the day these corporations are run by very incompetent people, so I'm not surprised they're ignoring/refusing potential merchandising deals, who knows what these frickers are thinking. In the case of cartoons, they probably see how bad the streaming numbers are and decide it's not even worth bothering unless it's for something on the level of Spongebob.

In the animation department I like what Prime is doing, they're very selective with their picks and they seem to have a heavy focus on properties that have established fanbases already but also at the same time they want to expand in the 16+ age demographic.

In terms of animation quality. Netflix or Prime?

It depends on the show really.

Those dumbasses probably aren't thinking at all.
And yeah in the case of cartoons that's probably there thinking even though it's insanely short sighted. Honestly if Nelson Peltz does usurp Bob Iger, he should not ignore/refuse those potential merchandising deals Disney Television Animation could be a legit goldmine.

          It's Disney's Spider-man so probably 7-11 age range.

For a while they where selling it as an MCU What If show with Norman mentoring Peter, despite Peter's cast featuring none of the MCU cast and having him go to school with Nico and Amadeus Cho of all characters. Now they've dropped the Freshman branding but it still sounds like they're keeping Norman.

They also layed off the S1 animation crew at one point.

I heard Disney/Marvel Animation's management of production was absolute hell for 2017's MSM animation wise, though I don't know if it was the same set up or if they just failed to replace it well.

I don't think the animation crew that got fired is the same that worked on MSM, since from what I understood part of that problem was that the studio was Korean and there was issues with international communication.
