10 years ahead of its time, reddit filter
>10 years ahead of its time
but only one year ahead of its time after the delays
why does it take 12 years to make 5 seasons of cartoons
Gross incompetence
This is the best animated show I've ever seen and it has nothing in common with rick & morty or reddit or any of that nonsense.
It's a labor of love and full of soul.
>it has nothing in common with rick & morty or reddit or any of that nonsense.
It's literally the same basic pitch, only with Johnny Quest instead of Back to the Future as the object of parody.
>Parody of a classic property and characters
>Built entirely on visual references
>Starts off small and quaint, devolves into deepest lore self-referntial mess
>Takes a dive in quality after 3 seasons
>Multi-year hiatuses between seasons
Cope, it was Rick and Morty of it's time, only not popular.
ok now lets hear from someone who isn't a moron
there are a number of basic aspects to a show that you're totally overlooking but let's just take one which is tone. here's the tone of rick & morty from start to finish
>cynical, pseudo-intellectual, mean-spirited, nihilistic
>lots of random gore out of the clear blue sky
>obvious, surface-level cultural references (mad max, the purge, furries)
>main characters are an butthole control freak who has endless control
>a scared little boy reacting to the situations
>sister whose behavior is all over the place
>parents who are basically irrelevant non-characters
now let's consider venture bros.
>camp camp camp campy camp camp from the word go
>gay as a goose
>lots of poking fun at '50s white-bread americana stuff (this goes way beyond johnny bravo)
>cultural references that are campy/interesting (david bowie, iggy pop, henry kissinger)
>endless superhero satire all day and night
>endless satire about how meaningless it is to be a villain
>all the ultimate masculinity humor with brock
the closest you can get with the comparison is that the monarch is kind of like rick while morty is sort of like dean & hank
Venture Bros actually has a heart, the characters actually grow and change in meaningful ways, most of them for the better. Rusty actually becomes something like a dad for real, his kids are totally different people by the later seasons, Brock isn’t as unstable, monarch starts to question his life, if it were like Rick and Morty they’d have doubled on things like the clone gags, but instead they actually have them be part of a real story. Venture Bros has a completely different soul literally, Rick and Morty is pathetically pessimistic garbage wrapped in layers of shitty attitude and dismal ironic sensibilities that get tiring 1 season in, venture bros has an actual heart and center to it. They’re not even fricking close. And it’s reflected in how they look.
Venture Bros. Best season is 4 abd their soft reboot with 6 and 7 has been consistently solid.
Andy Warhol Lex Luthor. I guess specifically his intro.
s6 was by far the weakest season even worse than s1 at times
Fight me irl Black person
i'm right and you know it. blue morpho arc sucked dick. it was a mid season no cap.
>blue morpho arc sucked dick.
All it seemed to be is more proof that Venture Sr. was a dick but it seems to cross a line. The guy seems irredeemable at that point. Bang a guy's wife, and then re-animated him after he dies? What was even the payoff for any of this?
I used to be in all this shit ,but it's played out. I watch a lot of straight no irony or no satire Japanese tv shows and hero stuff.
>All it seemed to be is more proof that Venture Sr. was a dick but it seems to cross a line. The guy seems irredeemable at that point. Bang a guy's wife, and then re-animated him after he dies? What was even the payoff for any of this?
the payoff is that the monarch and rusty are brothers. venture sr is a kino villain. the problem is it takes so fricking long to tell the arc when really there's only about 4 episodes worth of story.
You seem like the kinda guy that would bail on columbo after the intro
columbo is kino you fricker. s6 blue morpho arc was not so kino. simple as.
meant for
>So fricking long to tell the arc
uh-huh
>the payoff is that the monarch and rusty are brothers.
Keyword they said is "blood related". My guess is that it's gonna turn out Blue Morphy and Venure Sr. are related, possibly cousins or brothers. Likely the eldest Venture in the 19th century started the bloodline.
Buffy or Scream isn't doing anything that Venture Bros wasn't doing. Telling a story, but being self-aware and mocking it. It's all part of this late 90's early 00's trend.
This trend got so popular it basically "won" and took over western media so no one can tell a story straight anymore, it has to be ironic.
nah homie you're getting confused. buffy (and by extension marvelshit) WANTS to tell a serious story but it's based on goofy supernatural and superhero shit so they have to mock it so they have the safety net of "LOL it was all just jokes they're so silly and stupid LMAO". it's dishonest and insecure film-making. venture bros is people taking shit they loved from their childhood and applying real world logic and rules to it, giving it that "adult" perspective. they're telling a story that is inherently comedic and needs comedy in it to be told. yes it has some serious or emotional moments but they're subtle and are there to flesh out the comedy even further by providing more stupid logic and realism to their dumb dick jokes.
Japanese tv is garbage
Are you having a laugh? Red Death, Serina Ong, and The Doom Patrol were all great.
I don't remember that scene. Was there another season when I wasn't looking?
The show is okay but it overstayed it's welcome by a decade. Just end it already.
You probably missed season 6 and 7
>You probably missed season 6 and 7
I just checked. I just skipped season 6 entirely and went to 7.
They basically soft-rebooted the show in season 5. They just should have ended the show and made a new one if you're gonna change it that much.
The high irony/satire stuff wears thin since it's so over-played now and is what gen-x has been doing for the last 25 years. Even the MCU leans into it a lot now as well. I would prefer something played a tiny bit more straight now.
It's not ironic at all
Their problem is this brand of satire and endless deconstruction was relatively fresh in 2002. It's fricking grating and infinitely overdone 20 years later.
Yes, exactly. But it's not interesting when everyone, including the mainstream superhero films do it. Scream and Buffy the vampire Slayer (Joss Whedon can be blamed for a lot of problems in media actually) started a lot of this with Adult Swim taking it to the extreme.
It's just played out and not interesting. Cuz I actually do like elements of the story and much of the cast.
But I'm just like "get on with it". Tell whatever story and give it a conclusion. Most of the story is running in circles, promising "big revelations" but then never going anywhere. S5 was a soft reboot too. might as well have ended it and made a new show.
u sound boring
Holy shit just fight me irl Black person
wrong, there are no other satires of capeshit like venture bros. it comes from the correct perspective of two guys who loved this shit when they were kids but don't watch any of the new shit. they just have a love for the stuff they grew up with and are just applying rationality to the crazy shit.
to add to this, stuff like joss whedon/marvel etc. uses quips and "satire" so they can hide behind "lol superheros are dumb haha also please take our films seriously but they're still just goofy looking guys haha aren't they silly please can i have an oscar"
Literally fight me irl Black person
>The show is okay but it overstayed it's welcome by a decade
This pretty much. I can't believe it's still getting new seasons. It's been stale for awhile
The creators are weirdos
It's all hand drawn animation which takes forever.
two main creators dick around a LOT and would take a year or so off before even writing anything, let alone getting the ball rolling on all of the other production tasks.
this show would have benefited from shorter seasons being produced more often. maybe 6 or so episodes at a time. we get a new story arc each time and 1-2 "filler" episodes where they just have fun in the middle
The creators are m*sicians
They only have 2 writers for each season.
There was zero online presence and it didn’t increase as the show continued. You remember seeing a lot of Venture Bros Tshirts or toys or video games?
>You remember seeing a lot of Venture Bros Tshirts
Yes, the show had a t-shirt club starting with like season 4.
a very limited t shirt club. I still have my season 4 shirts. the spanakopita shirt is comfy.
They had a crossover with TF2 at one point and Brock was in that Valve poker game
It didn't make the rounds much outside of die-hards, though
my friend's uncle was an animator for the show along with shows like Doug and Beevis and Butthead. He gave me a Venture Bros t shirt right when the pilot was aired. pretty cool.
Favorite joke?
I particularly enjoyed lybdon Bee and lady bird along with picrel
“Colonel Gentleman’s list of toys he wished had existed when he was a kid”
IGNORE ME
I like how the creators end up accepting that they love the genre.
And the script and performances are sharp as a knife.
Both Rusty and the Monarch are not good or bad guys. They are both equally petty buttholes.
That's the whole point of the show. No one is good or bad everyone is equal shades of petty and selfish.
Orpheus is pretty good alligned.
he's a self involved negligent father
That episode with the ghost diver when his wife tells him on video feed that he's dead now and needs to move on, then the guy responsible for his death shows up next to his wife and he goes berserk. Shit is genius.
the ghost shrieks aimlessly in the background the entire episode, does absolutely nothing but be annoying
But still it's a funny premise, and that scene was freaking gold
The part where Brock snaps the neck and head off the ghost skeleton pirate and it screams as he throws it in the water was great too
I just started watching this for the first time a week ago it's pretty good and comfy
it has insane rewatch value, especially the second time around where you get the references.
Cringe mutt garbage.
More like Jonny Quest but more comedic and outlandish
the show is visually stunning, why did animation look so good in that era
When MTV animation was a top tier. Unfortunately the gen-x wet dream died when the show came out.
>When MTV animation was a top tier.
You have to see the maxx then. That was actually the top tier of MTV animation. There hasn't been an american show that well animated since, but the show itself was pretty disgusting and cucked up.
>>the maxx
more like the redditt
Some of the art from the first few years of Image's founding is amazing.
I've watch all of it at its prime when it came out. MTV was my all day TV station back in the day. It was all pretty trippy to watch late night.
Sovl
Probably since the Simpsons and South Park were very popular at the time so studios were willing to be less restrictive with art styles. I’m not even memeing but Adventure Time,Steven Universe and modern family all contributed to suits realizing they can have shit look ugly and no one will care
steven universe is a different cancer (calarts)
what is calarts? the stephen universe art is so fricking ugly I don't understand how people can watch it.
Adventure time is charming though.
it's just a lazy art style that's taken over
Thundercats calarts style
The original
2011 remake
you're delusional. it looks like shit.
what -core is this
Top tier Will Farrell comedy.
Idk but I remember one of the characters was r34 art of the month or something and it was some girl with buck teeth and a head that looked like a circle cut in half jerking off. Boy was that a boner killer if I've ever seen one
It fit the theme of early adult swim perfectly with it being a Hannah Barbera spoof
why is a cartoon illustration this hot
why cant i get a gf
im going to sudoku
Because Jackie Onassis was an absolute doll in her time and Dr. Mrs. The Monarch is modeled after here.
>here
*her
>Best written and acted female character is voiced by a man
How do they do it?
hottest woman in animation, even with the voice.
Your jerking off to a troony.
Dr Girlfriend had an adams apple before the show runners changed their minds on him/her
joke’s on you, i jerk off to Doc Hammer
Dr. Girlfriend isn't a troony, she's just a heavy smoker. It's a running joke about her being a troony. Both the Monarch and Phantom Limb have assured Brock she's a woman.
Hunter Gathers was a troony but transitioned back. Phantom Limb's final arc against Hunter was hilarious.
so much if that show wouldn't even be tolerated today
Why not? Brock accepts Hunter as a woman and doesn't kill em cause of the no women no children rule.
troony jokes about Dr. Girlfriend, hardly would get past the woke censors today. I doubt Phantom Limb's dick meaning contest with detransitioned Hunter would go over well. that show triggers both left wing and right wing puritans.
it had no sacred cows
It was ahead of even our time, to a time where it's okay to make these jokes again without fear of getting cancelled
it was great, entertainment in general is great when creators are allowed to create freely. They can't even tolerate free creativity on any platform anymore. frick all the censors and moral gays.
lol
definitely not an easy to accept excuse for not killing his former friend and commander
Hell, there was a Gaetan Duvas joke in one of the early episodes, that shit would get the creators lynched nowadays.
cope, they make troony jokes about her but it's revealed she was just a heavy smoker
Dr. Girlfriend is so fricking hot.
I'll never forget captain sunshine.
Why are you posting Wonder Boy and his groomee?
that's not wonderboy. That's Hank.
The big one is Wonder Boy.
is the real Captain Sunshine
The fact they got Kevin Conroy to do his voice is he best troll o all time.
venture bros looks like a softcore version of oglaf
Anyone else really get tired of the Pirate Captain? Like, its sort of funny that this one-off joke character pops up now and then but by the show's end he's basically a secondary character who hasn't really evolved and the joke is still "ha ha, this pirate man is in a place/doing a job he shouldn't be doing". I fell they should have binned him with Baron Underbite, Prof Impossible, and the other characters who were going nowhere in the space station episode.
I liked him
>Anyone else really get tired of the Pirate Captain?
A little, the only problem with binning him is that they would need to make a new character to be Doc's assistant and the only established character available for that role would be Sgt. Hatred, whom I like less than the pirate. So either they keep a dead-end character or introduce a new one which would take extra screentime.
>hating sgt hatred
Wtf r u a Black person?
Didn't say I hated him, only I liked him less than Pirate captain.
they use him just the right amount
I HAVE THE DART MONKEY ON ME BACK
>I bested you, Jonas! Do you yield?
>Go to hell, Ron… L. Ron!
I knew this shit was nosediving after they showed "the nozzle" clip to a comicon or something and all the audience was laughing like it was the first time they heard a joke before.
i kindanlike this show but i feel like an absolute gay admitting that i watch it.
It's like Rick and Morty but 50 times for reddit.
No wonder Cinemaphile sucks it's wiener so much.
>obsessed with reddit
You will never fit in here.
>Eat the pennies, qu-izboy
Escape to the house of mummies part 2 is the greatest 2 minutes of kino that never existed.
zoomer filter
literally won't get any references and will be clueless on everything
Zero work ethic creators doom series. Sad.
First four seasons are a top 5 of the 00s show - not just cartoons either.
I only saw the first episode and it was one of the worst things we'd ever seen.
>T. Filtered
take back everything i said about trigun badlands rumble which happens to be on TA right now
>it's like rick and morty but literary
Since there's so much time before seasons, it's easy to figure out the resolutions.
The obvious bait is that Blue Morpho opened the cargo bay doors. Bud Manstrong seems the most likely though. He was there as a young cadet, and has issues with sexuality. Them showing an R rated film, would have caused him to spazz out upon seeing the security footage ,and he flips the switch.
