People make a big deal out of this but i shouted at quite a lot of congs when i was out there, had some raging fights with laotians as well (they're literally the biggest pricks on the planet). Was fine. Almost never led to a fight.

Go to a bar, a fight will happen eventually and you'll learn you don't need to be so scared. The average wasted guy who starts is hammered drunk and not even sure of it. You won't get hurt waiting for someone else to escalate it. Trust me, i've done it all a lot by now, not a single permanent mark from any.

My own father joined the Air Force preemptively because he had a premonition that, if he waited to be drafted, he'd be placed on the ground and be shot to death. This was something he did not want to have to do. He wanted to go to college, but again, there was a draft and he was at the perfect age bracket to get sent to Vietnam. He had no choice. When he completed his time, he came back to the USA only to have crowds of people spitting, shouting, and throwing things at the bus he was on. He never wanted any of it and cursed the politicians who sent him, many of whom were draft dodgers.
The military is simply the dog of the state. There is no Valor, there is no honor, you come home with wounds, ptsd and are spat upon by your own people and country. Time and time again everybody is shown this and yet crayon eaters are still willing to gear up to go fight on foreign soil for "threats" that are nothing more than "Foreign Political Destabilization plan #69" or "Monetary corporate overlord interests" by glowies working for god knows whom.
The funniest thing is how protests actually had zero impact on the war, it became an embarrassment for the establishment only when very rich people started complaining about it in private circles in NY and DC. Even Chomsky said the protests had virtually no impact on it.
