The prowler has always been a cool concept. But basically he's proto spawn, look at his big ass cape, claws, and especially eyes around his mask.
It's very annoying when people discuss "Hobie Brown" now outside of Cinemaphile and a few other forums their talking about the tumblr sexyman of this decade
It's not as bad as Mile's uncle in the ultimate Spider-Man comic. Sexy Tumblr man at least loved his nephew, in the ultimate comics he blackmailed Miles and basically pushed him to fught and death on himself.

has there been an interview or something I missed, because there is no indication whatsoever in the movie that he is vigilante, but instead it seemed that he is a villain for hire just like the prowler we know from the first movie
More like a Robin Hood. You clearly see him stealing supplies to help those in need in that test video.

some leaked thing from beyond. He and Uncle Aaron are both prowler and what they do is break into some police facility, fight the policemen guarding it, and steal the medical supplies they're hiding to give them to Miles' Mom at the hospital

I kind of wish Hobie meant more in Peter's books these days. Currently he's The Hornet now that Aaron basically has a monopoly to the mantle, and he's one of Peter's oldest allies writers just sleep on for whatever reason
