    >villain goes full jason voorhees silent killer and the hero just barely fricking escapes
    >never gets a clear answer to the motivation, at best he finds some cryptic conspiracy string that hints at what the villain was going to do
    >bonus points if its creepy and /x/ tier
    >he's still out there

    >villain goes into "you and I are not so different" speech
Frick right off, you just murdered hundreds of innocent people. When you were delt a bad hand in life, you took all the evil options.

      >"Yes, but if you look beyond that, you'll see both of us share an interest in the same thing, we are both looked upon with fear and distrust by outsiders."
      >"So if you ignore the ways we're different, we're similar? Wow, if you ignore the ways that's stupid, that's incredibly deep!"
      >"What? no! you're supposed to get upset and say 'We are nothing alike!"

People bring this up all the time, but when has it ever actually happened? I mean sure, heroes spare villains a lot, but I don't remember ever seeing it happen because they think it would make them equally evil.

Usually it's a naïve third party doing it. Or the hero because "It's what you would do. And I'm not like you."
You ever notice, all the big complaints always seem to be about the Hero being a better man than the Villain?

Just wait till some jackass talks about how villains shouldn't kill their mooks either.

I only have an issue with villains running their mouths if they're supposed to be a mastermind super genius or some crap. I would buy a dumb lug or some ego-driven moron doing it, but if they're supposed to be smart, why not do the smart thing?
      >inb4 muh hubris

Because sometimes people write themselves into a corner and need a way to cop out the hero escaping or turning the tables, and nothing does that better than a villain speech.

I think even then it can be acceptable if it's the villain has been rattled or pissed off badly enough.

Villains are narcissistic and like to savor their cruelty. This is what separates them from heroes.

If you have to look along the shaft of an arrow from the wrong end, if a man has you at his mercy, then hope like hell that man is an evil man. Because the evil like power, power over people, and they want to see you in fear. They want you to know you are going to die. So they'll talk. They'll gloat. They'll watch you squirm. They'll put off the murder like another man will put off a good cigar. So hope like hell your captor is an evil man. A good man will kill you with hardly a word.

Besides going a bit fedora at the end this anon is correct. There’s a reason why pride is considered the ultimate sin. It makes men do incredibly stupid things and ultimately leads to their downfall.

Oh shit bros... I realize that I do that. I gloat when I beat people. Am I the bad guy? Was I the villain in other peoples lives all along?

This reminds me of one of my favorite scenes in League of extraordinary gentlemen. The villain defeated, and starts monologuing. Meanwhile Allan Quaternain grabs an axe completely not listening starts walking towards him. He's about to kill him hut i think the ship noves throwing him off balance and the villain escapes.

I always wanted that in a story where the protagonist kills the main villain, and there isn't a speech it isn't cool, just a straight up kurder because he had to go

Real talk, if I ever snap and decide to take someone out, they're damn sure going to hear why I'm doing it first.
