They were at a peak and these companies always need to make MORE money year after year, so the idea was to bring even more people into their fanbase by pandering to them. They thought that giving projects to women and minorities would attract people who didn't care about capeship without losing their old fans, they were wrong, terribly wrong. 5+ years after the downfall, there is no other way if they hope to reach their peak again (which will never happen).
The first Wonder Woman movie is the only modern female-led capeshit film that had a majority woman audience. None of these are booba movies that would repel women. After a certain point, it's just delusional to ignore that.
It's so weird that Supergirl has become good writing retroactively just because of how shit every writers are now.
