I often switch from Spotify in my car to the live radio, just something about knowing that i'm listening along with who knows who else that is cozy and good.
many long drives in my 20's were fraught with despair and loneliness, and catching a weird college station with an actual person DJ for an hour was very reassuring. I never wanna lose that stuff completely.

I can't even share music in the car with my family anymore. On the rare occasion every few years that we come together for a family trip, half the family wants to wear headphones the whole time. I don't really enjoy listening to radio while I'm on my own, but it's nice to at least share the moment listening to the same song on a road trip or something. Can't even have that anymore. My family doesn't get it.

still waiting for someone to pick up my BILLION DOLLAR IDEA, combine breadtube/twitch/goyflix/spotify models by letting users make their own playlist of content, and the popular ones become influencers commenting on slop. It would be like old movie channels, except defined by user interest, or seemingly defined by user interest. It would also be a much superior form for astroturfing modern disney slop, just spoof numbers and pretend those streamers are actually popular.

but the real core purpose of this system is to reuse old content. Old films are often better, it's a matter of getting acclimated to an era before you can enjoy them. The playlist system would create roadmaps to different inaccessible eras of film, which any normie is in fact capable of following, because old films are good.

The real purpose is to create a format where they can shill their new Shit, that everyone can tell is Shit from a mile away, in between/during things that aren’t Shit, in desperate hope of some good will rubbing off on the Shit

reusing old content is even more pro-corporate and anti-worker because it's already made. I really don't see any disadvantage, the customer wins and the evil corporation wins. Only Hollywood get screwed and they deserve it.

Yeah, channel surfing happens because there's so much good shit and you don't wanna miss it. So you flip through all the channels 8 times eventually settling on the least shit option because there's so much good content on them. This was a dogshit way of spending your time because you had no control over it, and unless there was a movie or a football match, it was just dogshit news, dogshit shows and overall dogshit content.

The same happens with these goober ass shows and movies. You hover over the thing, watch the little trailer or whatever, it's ass, and you move on to the next. That's not indecision, that's me making the decision of not watching that shit.

the best part of reruns on cable was you could jump on to the program in progress without having to wade through choices or pick an episode of your comfort show
I can't believe whichever streamer owns the Office currently doesn't have a running feed you could just hop on to, so many people who subscribe for only one show would have that on 24/7, same with friends
like Netflix has god knows how many comedy specials, why don't they have a continuous comedy feed you can just turn on?

            >we’re failing because we’re too good!
They will never come within a million miles of admitting their business model has been dead for about 15 years now.

You probably don’t realize it, but “mass appeal” was only a viable model for about 90 years and the only reason it was a viable model is because of industrialization and a small number of companies having control over the market. Today there are tons of entertainment companies/mediums and Hollywood has zero control over any of it.

Vpns are a waste of time and money. Your isp doesn’t care. The companies don’t care. The only exception is if you live in a third world shithole with criminal penalties for copyright infringement.

I assure you, you are correct ISPs don't care. Doesn't matter, the legal team still has to worry about it and I promise you that companies will come after you. It just won't be the first offense. The second they decide to go after you they will harass your ISP who then gives up your information.

Anon, sending you a letter is the full extent of what an American isp is required to do in response to a DMCA complaint. To get subscriber information from them requires hundreds, if not thousands of billable hours.

What exactly do I gain from providing pretty straightforward information to you? Why are you so upset about it? Like, everything I'm saying is extremely straightforward. ISPs are required by regulatory law to keep logs for a certain period of time (varies by ISP on how compliant they are) LEAs subpoena, SW, etc. the ISP in regards to info they have to build their cases. Then if the case makes it to court you show up as a witness to confirm the data. Google/FB/Instagram etc. all have to do the same shit and provide IPs and such in regards to search warrants or pen registers that they have running for LE.

Twitch and over services like it show there is a demand. Seeing as streaming has a paywall it won't be as trolled. Not the guy who thinks chat is the end-all be-all, but streams are definitely the modern version of a "media event" your peers see at the same time. Adding streamers to a content platform would create specific time slots for specific streams like the old TV landscape, the social aspect would come back. Only a certain number of comments can be parsed at once, not sure how that would work, though you obviously need thousands of channels.

Maybe that mouse fellow will think up something else creative, like copying entire program blocks that 90s kids used to enjoy, and showing that. Maybe they will even put out a little magazine with pictures and comics in it. Maybe they will make movies people want to see again. Who knows WHAT will happen when the money runs out. Mouse bail-out? Too big to fail? Haha, wild times. Go to hell Disney, not even China wants your shit anymore

The same advantages as always but now with one added feature.

    It's better for companies.

expect it's not. All they are doing is devaluating their own brands. New shows are constantly watched less and less people.

depends on if you have to pay extra for "channels" on their yidsney pozzed streaming platform.

I hate any kind of abonnement so I've never payed for netflix, Spotify or whatever. If I say I use torrents most people go "omg I'm scared of the viruses". I've been using that shit for at least 15 years now, it's insane how many ppl are scared of technology but don't mind paying so much money for entertainment

Amazons been doing this for over a year already. not sure why morons are shitting and pissing themselves over this. The Stargate channel was my go to when i wanted some background noise. until they killed it with ads of course.

The industry people called this like 8 years ago. Its just VOD in a smoother delivery system

      Anonymous

Eh, with tons of services releasing shit 1 episode a week it's a worse delivery system. You think fallout would be such a hit if it wasn't released all at once? No idea why some shows do it right while others are still moronic about it.

        Anonymous

so every time they release a series all at once, marketers cry about how they're only being paid to shill for a few weeks, and try to insist viewers want weekly releases. then every time something is released weekly, viewers tell them how much that fricking sucks and they just refuse to watch until its either all out. so they keep going back and forth.

also unless you've got some objectively verifiable viewership numbers, all you're doing is looking at the amount of marketing it has, and calling that "popularity."

I think back to my childhood and remember how many kino TV shows and movies I've stumbled into just by channel surfing into them halfway through and going "what the frick is going on here?" This is unironically a good option for any streaming service to have.

Streaming was only advantageous over cable (outside of pricing and ads) for the 5% of people who actively watch a small number of quality tv shows. For the 95% of americans who just go home, eat dinner, then put on slop until they go to bed, it's no different

Even Plex has a streaming channels section. How are people getting butthurt over it? Peawiener does it Max did it for a bit. Many free aps do it. Adult swim, roke, etc
Disney does it and people lose their shit. I understand questioning why people like to watch them but wtf are people actually mad?

One thing i will add is I find myself more will to watch something i have no control over. When i can watch it anytime i want i end up putting it off

  51. 2 weeks ago

    >isnt this just cable?
Almost. After the channels, they'll start adding increasing amounts of ads until it's worse than TV used to be. But no, the enshitification won't end there... they'll start migrating certain shows and movies to only being available on those channels, which will then be filled with ads. They have to be careful though. this is like when one airline raises a price, waits a few hours, and if the others don't match the raise they back off for a while. All levels of enshitification rely on this type of pseudo collusion.

Genius way to sneak in ads for extra cash honestly. They know their customers are moronic

  53. 2 weeks ago

If I had Disney+ I'd use the channel feature. Call me a pleb, but it's cool to see what happens. Sometimes you find a movie you like, and you wouldn't have picked it unless it was presented.
Most of the memorable movies I saw were in childhood when I had the HBO package.

  54. 2 weeks ago

That was Hulu in like 2008, it was always going to be free because of the ads. Fast forward to it being slop like the rest. Try pirating instead.

  55. 2 weeks ago

They're going to "add" them anon. They're not going to take away everything and make it so you can only watch shows on their scheduled release.
I'd say this is perfect for people who like having the tv making noise in the background, but in actuality, there's probably talks of merging with some cable company and they're testing the waters.

  57. 2 weeks ago

I meant more like the actual channels, not a whole catalog of random shit I'll never watch.
        For example, be like:
        >I'll take channel 112, 115, and 200.
And that's my whole catalog. No bullshit packages that inflate cost.
