Wait, is the music industry trying to bring back rock music?

There has been so much mainstream media attention for electric guitar music lately.

Guitar Center has been losing money for years. Guitars do sell better than ever, though.

the pinnacle of mainstream rock was appetite for destruction and something like that will never get released again. it's fricking over. the only way forward is going full captain beefheart by having someone talented transcribe the sounds going on in a schizo's head

Guns N' Roses was cringey sell out trash. I'm glad grunge killed those fools.

appetite for destruction is not a sell out album and grunge lmao were the actual sell outs. it was a fashion scene just like punk was, all the music grunge bands were playing was done in the last decade with bands like husker du and the pixies. grunge was awful, made to sell flannel and heroin

Not the best optics, but I get their frustration being booked to play riff rock (even with catchy, groovy and melodic songs like Royal Blood) on the same day there's pretty much only pop shit all day. So the crowd won't exactly be down for it.
I find a lot of people who don't listen to rock in any way almost get physically repulsed or ear pain as soon as they hear something that has even 1% overdrive or distortion. People really suck.

I saw them open for Metallica along with Lamb of God. It was on one of those 360 stages and it was pretty clear they were not comfortable playing a stage like that. I like them though. One of the most interesting bands in that genre.
Lamb of God on the other hand totally annihilated that stage. They were great.

That was back when MTV still at least had a "well, we need to have at least one rock band playing the show". So they'd pick some band, seemingly at random, to play. Royal Blood did the same too for MTV Europe music awards once. But they were massive in the UK when the debut album came out. Even mainstream success.

Pretty much. I enjoy a lot of different kinds of music but the vast majority has always been rock and metal in my life. Sucks that most homosexual normies are horrified if a guitar is involved in a song in any way. Americans have been assaulted by Black person rap for so long the idea of listening to anything else is alien to them and it's fricking sad.

I listen to pretty much everything from motown to death metal. I get people have individual taste, but I've met many people, even family members, who are very into music, but like I said, it's like they completely tune out mentally as soon as they detect even 1% overdrive. Not even distortion. It's really like it's causing physical pain to them.
I mean, I fricking hate mumble rap and hipster indie shit where they sing weird on purpose, but I can listen to it without being in physical pain like them. It's fricking childish.

I like Steel Panther and have seen them live. Very fun show and they're legit talented players.
But why are they on that show? Other than massive exposure, they're a signed band that tour the world and have done it for years and years.
They also tried to get somebody like Jason Isbell on the year he broke through.
Wasn't the whole premise of this shit supposed to be people who weren't signed or already a successful act? I know it's heavily scripted and edited, but still, this is so blatant.

    >So much mainstream media attention for electric guitar music

That's only because rap artists like Post Malone will cover their songs on the occasion and wear their T-Shirts so said bands will briefly trend.

Rock music is actually dead to mainstream culture and has been for probably over a decade. Young people want to hear music that is "dangerous" and Rock music hasn't had balls since the 80's.

Modern day rock music in essence fills the same niche Jazz music does...to satiate the over-complicated ear of b00mers and pasty white nerds.
