Her entire "story" was so divorced from the rest of the mainline DC canon that she might as well come from a completely different reality. Also she had her run back in the 80s before Billy really got integrated on the bigger DC universe.
Nobody really remember Amethyst until they brought her back for Legion of Superheroes and this was in the future after she suffered ego death and was more a kind of force of nature (magic) that a person.
This character has never interacted with Billy Batson.
Not once.
Okay, but if they did make a new story in which her and Captain Billy Marvel were pals, like say a divorced form the comics ya graphic novel or something, could it work? Such a premise implies it's a full on au where you have to tell the story of Amethyst from the beginning and have Billy somehow wind up in there too, better integrating the rest of the DC universe
Billy is getting one with the current run, and Amethyst sorta got one in the Bendis Young Justice series, but that was definitely not my ideal take on the character.
When Amethyst was created, Captain Marvel wasn't really a big presence in DC, and was in Earth-S while Amy was in Earth-1, as shown in her DC Comics Presents appearance
After Crisis, to connect her more with the DCU, Gifffen, for some reason I can't understand, made her a Lord of Order, with all that implies
And that's for the best, Amethyst should be allowed to do her own thing in her own little corner of the DC cosmos without any other IP tampering with her. They would be cute together though.
>Character perfectly made to appeal to teenage girls >DC gets Christy Marx, creator of Jem, to write her >She goes for the Game of Thrones audience
Amy hasn't been good since Giffen took over her comic
LOL, so THAT'S what happened in The New 52?
How are American comics so cursed that you can't write a girl-oriented fantasy series even with a writer who started doing it correctly in 1985?
Wait? so the person who made Swords of Sorcery was competent? you'll never know considering how lame that comic was. The plot moved at the speed of the continents and every so many issues or so Constantine showed up from nowhere to drag the plot
It means he likes using obscure* characters for nerd cred while knowing the bare minimum about said character so they're basically someone else entirely.
*by obscure I mean characters who used to be reasonably popular but have fallen off, so people will be able to recognise the character and suck greg off for it Yes, I'm a Legion of Super Heroes fan, how could you tell?
On second thought, maybe it's better that the shorts never became a full show
This way we won't have to deal with people b***hing about the Emeralds getting racebent It's nothing related to the Garnets check out Fire Jade here
>we won't have to deal with people b***hing about the Emeralds getting racebent
That would require Cinemaphile to read comics to know who the emeralds are.
There was an Amethyst ongoing a year ago or so.
People are still making threads about "Manga outsells comics, industry is doomed." And you have Amethyst -right there- for the iesaki readers. But no, DC just has to girly it up because they think it's She Ra or nothing.
At best, they'll throw another Green Lantern into the GL comic, then misuse it after it's 1st three issues are over and it's the next writing team's turn. Warlord, Adam Strange, and LOSH also exist, but Bruhard never got to work on them.
Amethyst by Amy Reeder. 2020. There was some kind of graphic novel 2021. You can probably find copies at your lcbs.
>"I read it a couple years back" >conveniently can't remember anything about it
Lying piece of shit.
No, that's a description of modern DC. Lots of Am flying around on her horse, bouncing from one "ask this guy what happened" to the next. The end is a big showdown with Dark Opal in a magic prison chair, then more of the Gemstone Court trying to arrest Amethyst, then she gets a "strong standing up to X" ending, the end. Lots of confusion the whole comic through, like they wanted an action movie but couldn't commit to the story tone.
>I love how rich the old handdrawn comics look
Same, I wish I had more good pictures of the comics because I want to post more but I just didn't save and screenshots when I read it
didn't Skelator get beaten by John Constantine in some random comic?
Wild
>Elon Musk posts on Cinemaphile
can you please buy DC comics and make some decent comics
Remember when DC tried to bring Amethyst to the DC universe and they did it in the worst way possible?
You don't mean to tell me you don't like Amy suffering for the rest of the series?
This character has never interacted with Billy Batson.
Not once.
Billy pulling triple duty as Shazam, Ms Marvel and the princess of gemworld.
I love that he starts bailing off the relationship as soon as Amy looses her curves.
Maybe he thinks it's icky to try to get with a 13-year-old
Topaz later married the reahead, then Amethyst stole one of their children because at that point she was a worse version of Dr Fate.
Sus
That's a wasted opportunity if I ever saw one
Her entire "story" was so divorced from the rest of the mainline DC canon that she might as well come from a completely different reality. Also she had her run back in the 80s before Billy really got integrated on the bigger DC universe.

That'd be too interesting for current DC not to completely frick up somehow, like the Starfire's daughter one
It could work since both characters kinda require a good reboot to fix the mess they are currently
Billy is getting one with the current run, and Amethyst sorta got one in the Bendis Young Justice series, but that was definitely not my ideal take on the character.
Oh, absolutely.
This would work fine as a cartoon because those tend to be self-contained in general
I'd actually be assmad if we got a Billy Amthyst cartoon instead of the shorts one
>Billy Batson
He's too impure to meet Amy
I know right? They're both Champions of magic that get magically aged up, how has it not happened before?
When Amethyst was created, Captain Marvel wasn't really a big presence in DC, and was in Earth-S while Amy was in Earth-1, as shown in her DC Comics Presents appearance

I hate Crisis in Infinite earths, and Dr Fate just for how they fricked up Amethyst comic.
Everyone working at DC Comics is unironically moronic and hates all DC Comics characters
And modern Amethyst who reintroduced by Bendis in Young Justice doesn't even grown up anymore.
She also has pink hair, which I just hate.
I think that was a mini after that where she had another hair.
Someone should suggest it to Waid on Twitter or something, he's apparently always taking suggestions.
And that's for the best, Amethyst should be allowed to do her own thing in her own little corner of the DC cosmos without any other IP tampering with her. They would be cute together though.
Amethyst omnibus when?
>Amethyst series never
It hurts to live
It hurts to be her
>Character perfectly made to appeal to teenage girls
>DC gets Christy Marx, creator of Jem, to write her
>She goes for the Game of Thrones audience
Amy hasn't been good since Giffen took over her comic
LOL, so THAT'S what happened in The New 52?
How are American comics so cursed that you can't write a girl-oriented fantasy series even with a writer who started doing it correctly in 1985?
Girls don't like action silly~
Even if they didn't go full HeRa with the story like damn we have Sailor Moon just rip that off instead
Wait? so the person who made Swords of Sorcery was competent? you'll never know considering how lame that comic was. The plot moved at the speed of the continents and every so many issues or so Constantine showed up from nowhere to drag the plot
Teen girls loved GoT
But it wasn't for the reasons any writer could replicate if they didn't understand
DC did make He-Man comics for a while
>take one of Amethyst's villains
>genderbend them
> Still don't use Amethyst in your series
What did Weisman mean by this?
It means he likes using obscure* characters for nerd cred while knowing the bare minimum about said character so they're basically someone else entirely.
*by obscure I mean characters who used to be reasonably popular but have fallen off, so people will be able to recognise the character and suck greg off for it
Yes, I'm a Legion of Super Heroes fan, how could you tell?
The child and Flaw were never popular
I know, I'm just going on a tangent
On second thought, maybe it's better that the shorts never became a full show
This way we won't have to deal with people b***hing about the Emeralds getting racebent
It's nothing related to the Garnets check out Fire Jade here

>Implying that the people who'd complain wouldn't pretend to have read Amethyst
Can't pretend to have read something if you don't know it exists
Tell that to all the Marathon "fans" that popped up after the new game announcement.
Maybe but it will be a Waven show which acts as a direct continuation
No, those have been around. Specifically, Halo babies looking to steal boomer valor will pretend to love Marathon.
People were whining about New 52 having attempted teen rape when the original comic had implied attempted e-girl rape by demons
she is hot.
She's cute!
Valid both of you
There was an Amethyst ongoing a year ago or so.

>There was an Amethyst ongoing a year ago or so.
There was? All I remember was the mini from the Bendis Wonder Comics line.
Amethyst by Amy Reeder. 2020. There was some kind of graphic novel 2021. You can probably find copies at your lcbs.

It was bad.
>Cinemaphile pretending to give a shit about Amethyst
>again
Oh shut it, these threads are always comfy because we understand she's a character with potential that was squandered at multiple turns.
>muh comf-ACK!
Literally not a single one of you has actually read the series. Shove your bullshit.
Frick you, I read it a couple years back and still can't recall a single thing other than enjoying some of it and being disappointed by the end
>"I read it a couple years back"
>conveniently can't remember anything about it
Lying piece of shit.
I remeber the derpy faces and not really being able to follow the plot
I storytimed it last year
Where's your evidence it's only "pretending?"
At the very least, people care about the concept and potential of the character.
Which is better, the classic comic Amethyst, or the modern RPG cutie Amethyst?
Personally, I love how rich the old handdrawn comics look.
>I love how rich the old handdrawn comics look
