The Phantom Menace can be interpreted to be the fake trade dispute thing with Nute Gunray, as it was a cover for the real menace; Darth Sidious, or the exact opposite of that, with Darth Sidious being hidden in the shadows, like a phantom.
>The Phantom Menace can be interpreted to be the fake trade dispute thing with Nute Gunray, as it was a cover for the real menace
This is how I interpreted it as a kid.
yeah when i was 8 i thought the phantom menace was the Federation not paying trade taxes on Naboo, and thus financially facilitating the embargo on their own people without people knowing, that was the phantom part, then I assumed the menace part was the bad faith negotiations from the galactic senate which ultimately wound up hurting the very people it was supposed to benefit.
>"Maybe the real Phantom Menace was the friends we made along the way"
Name makes sense but it's still an awful name for a movie, specially a Star Wars movie.
Still better than A New Hope, though.
because of TCW, hes fine in it but they think he's this amazing super deep character who can win every fight and deserves screentime in anything over other sith affiliated characters
you cant talk about dathomir in a star wars project (e.g tv show or video game) without some idiot going "dathomir? I HOPE DARTH MAUL SHOWS UP"
Even that moron star wars theory thought for a second that the nightsisters were gonna resurrect darth maul in the final episode of ahsoka
>hes fine in it but they think he's this amazing super deep character who can win every fight
Maul is better written in the old expanded universe. Pretty much the Star Wars equivalent of Guts from Berserk in how unrelenting he is.
I don't give a shit about Filoniwars.
I agree, he's a bit too sentimental and bordering on an anti-hero in the current canon. Not a bad character per se, but in the old EU he's pretty much the perfect Sith lackey which is what his character is supposed to be.
And Old Wounds was kino.
It takes place pre-Episode 1, so if you want it to, it can be. But technically no, it's Legends, as is Shadow Hunter.
Pic related is canon though, but barely managed to fall into that category. It was being written when the Lucasfilm Disney transition was happening, and it was envisioned as part of the old canon but made its way to the new canon.
additionally, they excuse his return yet criticise any other character returning
>darth maul coming back with just the vague "my hatred kept me alive"? SO TRUE!!!! >uhhhmmm you cant just resurrect asajj ventress despite her coming from a culture that deals with necromancy all the time! YOU'RE RETCONNING THE LORE!!!!

Darth Maul fans are the worst part of the star wars fanbase
Holy seething, ventressgay. They heard your prayers, and you STILL find a way to b***h and be an obnoxious Black person. How sad!
>ventress
Yeah, she's just a genderbent Maul clone. I really like GenndyWars but Komari Vosa > Ventress.

Not exactly. They have quite different backgrounds and stories. Maul is unique in that he is an actual Sith raised from childhood by Palpatine to be a Sith. He isn't a fallen Jedi, he isn't ex-Padawan, like Ventress. He was a Sith his entire life. In that, he is much more interesting. >Komari Vosa
No one knows who that is.
that was sheev
Yeah I think the "phantom menace" is Palpatine. Darth Maul is just the face of Palpatine's plan.

You were a deep thinker as a kid.
>8 years old
>even understanding embargos, taxes, senate talk, trade
Am I being trolled?
do they still give autism tests?
Well that’s because you were a dumbfrick kid but you know better now.
boy was my face red when i figured out it was just a phantom of the opera reference! (learned that when i was 9)

actually it's qui gon jinn - he turned into an invisible ghost at the end
I thought anakin was the phantom menace?
"All right you collective heads of knuckle, tell me.... what exactly is the PHANTOM menace"
i mean it
c-can you see him?
is he showing up in the hologram?
well, I guess they don't call him "The Phantom Menace" for nothing, hahaha.

>cant provide a counterargument
go ahead, tell the class how maul doesnt have an obnoxious fanbase
Because you exist, and you single-handedly outshine anyone in your obnoxiousness and Black personness. You should unironically have a nice day.
>I cant form an argument without calling someone a gay or a Black person
Becuse he should have stayed dead. It was stupid when the emperor survived and it was dumb when maul survived.
