The point was that Feech did not respect him and was going to frick him over eventually.
He took Carmella's comment about everyone sucking up to him and corrupted the message to get a valid conclusion.
And that conclusion was to set him up and rat him out.

Harris was pretty cool. I like that scene where the FBI are letting Tony listen to the tapes of his own mother and uncle conspiring against him. All the other agents are creaming their pants over it, while harris just sits there, saying nothing, filled with remorse.
Why would anyone misconstrue it? If he was going to feed Harris information he wasn't going to do it out in the fricking open for the whole world to see, was he?
There was never any hard evidence that Jimmy was a rat, all of it was circumstantial. However, that's more than good enough evidence as far as getting whacked, as that shit isn't a court of law.
