I think some people hate him because they come in thinking he is the Char Clone of the show and he is a completely different character so they hate him. I think he has more in common with Jerid and Garma.
He's a decent antagonist but not nearly as iconic as char or as good as other Zanscare pilots
Mostly he's just not as good a strategist as Char, Char plays everyone while Chronicle just ends up being clueless
