The post-Crisis Byrne run is a good intro.

John Byrne run is bad introduction to Superman, cause editors in the 80s had this stupid rule that Clark HAVE TO BE the only survivor from Krypton. That's why in the post-Crisis stuff there is no proper Supergirl or General Zod story.

Because most pre crisis super man comics tend to be self contained with some memorable stories.

Sure, here's some issue I'd start with
                - Superman #76 - Batman and Superman learn about their secret identities
                - Action Comics #241 - Fortress of Solitude story
                - Action Comics #242 - First Brainiac story
                -Superman #127 first Titano story
                - Action Comics #252 - First Metallo story and origin of Supergirl
-Action Comics #254 - Lex Luthor creates Bizarro
                - Superman #146 - retelling of Superman's origin
                - Action Comics #340 - first Parasite story

I seriously don't understand how people can read the pre crisis superman comics when they were made for little kids with some issues worth noting.

No, it doesn’t. For those of us who’ve read 10000 comics they’re a nice novelty. They aren’t “good” and aren’t worth reading for more than a giggle.

I’m so sick of you newbies saying shit like this about comics you haven’t actually read because you just think silver age covers and le superdick memes are just to die for.

Lurk more and read more kid. I read 1000 comics a year minimum, I own at least 5000 floppies. They’re not just stored and ignored.

She isnt from Krypton. She was made in a lab by Lex Luthor from Pocket Universe. It's convoluted. Basically Superman editors wanted to have Supergirl and still have Clark Kent be the only survivor of the planet Krypton explosion

        I hope you're joking.

Genuine question are you moronic? Byrne is the modern Superman. Anybody starting Superman today should absolutely skip the silver age and golden age.

You sound like type of homosexual who unironically acts like normies would devour ditko and Lee Spider-Man rather than never reading a comic again.

          > unironically acts like normies would devour ditko and Lee Spider-Man rather than never reading a comic again.
I mean to be fair the ditko/stan lee is one of those runs that aged better than most comic characters in that era.

No, it absolutely did not. Neither did kirby’s FF or Thor. If anyone is starting marvel the only silver age they should read is captain marvel and doctor strange. The rest is so bad they’ll never read a comic again.

Only newbies trying to larp as oldgays imagine this shit and it’s to the detriment of those asking for reccs.

Also samegayging to say “aging” isn’t why the OGs suck. I hate that statement and it tells me you’re like younger than 20.

Nothing “ages”, not jokes not plots not stories. They were merely overrated or underrated, likely due to novelty, time doesn’t change that.

People claim TDKR is “dated” or “aged poorly” simply because it references things from before they were born. It’s a moronic comment to make.

The art is dated as frick and wasn't nearly as consistent as ASM. Writing is dragged out and overly wordy. I know silver age comics have a shit ton of unneeded dialogue and descriptions, but it beats Bendis speak everyday of the week. Also just dumb ass ideas that don't hold up like Kraven being a reality tv guy.

Read my post again, anon. He's a fine artist but the style is dated. You can open it and tell it's from the 2000s. Ditko/Romita art is dated too, but more timeless and technically proficient than Bagley's stuff.

Is this really the state of Cinemaphile? The Ditko/Romita/Lee Spider-Man is great and the book stayed great for a long time after. Ultimate Spider-Man is trash with shit art.

    >Here are some of the best Superman stories for beginners:

    >"Superman: Birthright" by Mark Waid and Leinil Francis Yu: This modern retelling of Superman's origin is an excellent starting point. It explores Clark Kent's journey from Smallville to becoming Superman, highlighting his values and motivations.

    >"Superman: Red Son" by Mark Millar and Dave Johnson: This alternate take on Superman's story imagines a world where he lands in the Soviet Union instead of Smallville. It's a compelling and thought-provoking tale that showcases Superman's iconic characteristics in a different context.

    >"All-Star Superman" by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely: This self-contained story is often recommended as one of the best Superman comics. It presents a Superman facing his mortality and showcases his compassion, intelligence, and heroism. It's a great exploration of what makes Superman an enduring symbol of hope.

    >"Superman: Secret Identity" by Kurt Busiek and Stuart Immonen: In this four-issue miniseries, the protagonist shares the name Clark Kent and lives in a world where Superman is a fictional character. It's a unique and heartfelt story that examines the impact Superman has on people's lives.

    >"Superman: American Alien" by Max Landis and various artists: This seven-issue miniseries offers a fresh take on Superman's early years. Each chapter focuses on a different period of Clark Kent's life, providing an engaging and character-driven exploration of the Man of Steel.

    >"Superman: For All Seasons" by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale: This beautifully illustrated miniseries delves into the four seasons of Superman's early years, exploring his growth as a hero while examining his relationships with his parents, Lois Lane, and Lex Luthor.

    >Remember that these stories offer different perspectives and interpretations of Superman, allowing readers to experience the breadth of his character. Enjoy your journey into the world of Superman!

    Gee that was hard

Awful choices. Genuinely wouldn’t recommend these to anyone. secret identity is about Superman they it isn’t a Superman comic and Landis is flat out dog shit. Otherwise decent list but I’d remove birthright too.

Really ASS isn’t a good “entry” either, like most Morrison comics it’s better read after a reading for a while.

After For All Seasons they should read Kryptonite the trade paperback title of the Superman confidential story by Cooke and Sale about Clark’s first time experiencing Kryptonite and meeting Martian manhunter. I’d also say they should read all of tomasi and Gleason rebirth run.

Superman is hated and called "obsolete" because he's not a manlet. This is also why the rebooted comics "shrink" him to be a more average height and weight.

The Superman Animated Series comics are pretty good. There's also the Tomasi run, All Star, For All Seasons, Bryne. Currently the Williamson run is pretty good too.
