On the surface, it reads like that. But I suspect Blue Beetle was in far less theaters than Flash/Shazam to begin with. So 500+ theaters could mean 3/4s of it's market share.

The problem is the DC brand isn't popular right now (at least enough to account for the inflated budgets) and they're making movies about B/C/D-listers instead of their actually popular properties.
If they had made successful Batman movies, introduced Blue Beetle in one of those, and then gave him his own movie then they might have had some success.

Batman Vs Superman is a stupid/gimmicky title. Having them fight was stupid. It tried ape fight in Dark Knight Rises without any of the context between Clark and Bruce. That wasn’t enough, shoehorned JLA intros into it and tossed in Death of Superman for good measure
