Warner Bros Discovering has been haemorrhaging money for years, it owns a lot of media companies in my country and over half of the staff have been laid off in the last month or so. They tried to save the company about two years ago by merging it with paramount who was also in the shit.

This thread would’ve worked better if you’d focused on a single company
Paramount (aka ViacomCBS) is actually quite an interesting story - for a long time Summer Redstone (Rothstein) had run a huge media empire and implied heavily that it would be passed to high daughter (Shari Redstone)
This daughter, Shari Redstone, began to feud with Summer and in 2006 the feud became quite public and eventually she, allegedly, had him declared mentally incompetent
Now, probably he actually was - he seemed unable to speak clearly since 2016 - but the two factions in the company became the daughter vs. Summer Redstone’s preferred* corporate successor - Philippe Dauman (the son of a Holocaust survivor) who got in by gaining support from the board and a fairly mentally frail Summer
Once Summer died, this feud was fairly major business and eventually Shari did succeed in taking back the company and has ruled Paramount with an iron fist ever since

The family could have a tv show made about them, Shari also married and divorced a young Rabbi while this whole corporate battle was ongoing

If you make ‘right wing’ broad enough, anything that exists will be ‘right wing’
Nobody here would consider the family to be ‘right’ and they themselves would not consider themselves to be - only by following a fairly unorthodox definition would (You) be able to define them that way and I think you use that particular definition because you have an axe to grind with ‘chuds ‘ and want to tie a declining company & controversial family to your ‘enemy’ group
You’ll never, despite affirmations, be a real woman

Born in 1998. Who the frick cares. There's a ton of stuff from the backlog from the 70s, 80s, 90's and 00s that I missed out on that I'm enjoying.

I was born in 1981. I've already seen every single decent-or-better tv show and movie. It sucks that no more good stuff is being made or will ever be made because of leftists and israeli nepotism.

There's still stuff that you haven't discovered millenial anon. Plex, Tubi, Pluto and other services have shown me so much. I saw Benson, MacGyver, and Airwolf. Not to mention movies like Prince of the City, The Spanish Prisoner, Strange Brew, and Quick Change.

I'm watching stuff from other countries too. I never liked anime and despise weabooism but Japan makes some comfy shows. I just watched Super Sentai like Dairanger, Ohranger, and Carranger (I knew Power Rangers was based on a Japanese show but I had no idea they just cut & paste footage) and Kamen Rider (555, Agito) as well as Ultraman (original 60s series).

Oh you sweet summer child. I'd watched every single episode of Airwolf before you even born. I knew who Jerry Seinfeld was from Benson before Seinfeld the tv show even existed. You have no idea what it was like to be a child of the 1980s and 1990s.

I stand by my sad statement that I've seen everything that is at least decent.

Well props to you my elder for having the most based childhood. I wish I was born in 1974 so I can actually enjoy 1980 to 1989 from age 6 (when you usually can remember stuff clearly) to age 15. Then I can experience the 90's at age 16 to 25 when the new millenium begins.

I loved my early childhood like coming home after school and watching Toonami to see Yu Yu Hakusho, Dragon Ball, Rurouni Kenshin and playing Star Wars games like Knights of the Old Republic. But yeah, looking at the stuff you guys grew up with, I really envy you.

I also finished The OC (it ended when I was 9) and One Tree Hill. Both very comfy shows; I wasn't into them since I was a bit too young to watch it, but man, they really encapsulate the 2000's very well. Also got into Supernatural (yeah I heard don't watch after Season 5) and so far I fricking love a roadshow about 2 brothers fighting monsters across the US.

Yeah they do, but it doesn't seem as obnoxiously forced. When Japan does it, they just put it in because it seems trendy and they don't try to actively export it to other countries like the US tries to shove wokeness in its media. Though now it's backfiring because certain countries like the PRC and Islamic ones aren't keen on that.

              >I hate how US localizers are trying to hijack and modify Japanese games for DEI standards. The Japanese should tell the localizers to frick off or they'll pull the contract.
This has been going on for 10-20+ years, people are only catching on now. Better late than never I suppose.

              >Any indie games to recommend?
Well any specific genres? Or any examples of other indie games you liked, since there's a bit too big of a range out there to possible recommend.

Most Japanese execs don't monitor what the overseas distribution does because they're more concerned with in-house control. They've been wising up the last couple of years thanks to the Internet and Japanese commenting on the insanity and blatant disrespect Western localizers have been doing to the source material.

There was even a survey that had more than half of the Japanese respondents say that they don't want Hollywood to adapt anime after disasters like DB Evolution.

No specific type of genre. I'm up for anything whether survival horror, sports, first-person shooter, adventure RPG, etc.

This isn't really about wokeness. Warner Bros. got fricked because ATT bought them for something like $70B a decade ago. Then when they realized it wasn't working out a few years later they took out a $70B loan in WB's name and then spun them off into an independent company again. Now they have to repay all of that debt.

Paramount is fricked because 80% of their money comes from cable subscriptions, which are in terminal decline.

Ironically, it appears Warner bros discovery’s stock is tanking precisely BECAUSE they are about to lose the rights to broadcast the basketball-American sport: basketball.

Someone mentioned that viewership is going down for the NBA and that's why there has been a huge push by the media to put more focus on people like Caitlin Clark to try and get people to watch the WNBA.
I still have no interest in either.

thats the most moronic thing ive ever heard and you might be even more moronic for parroting it. its just like anything else. if its a shitty product nobody will buy it. there are no more fundamentals in the NBA.

NBA is awful as a product, the flopping and fouling shit is indescribably bad I genuinely don’t know how people watch this shit. The NFL manages to stay entertaining somehow, baseball I can’t tell if it’s dying or reviving the stories are all over the place, NHL has always been fun but is the little brother eternally, but damn basketball is putrid. Feels like a different sport from the Jordan era.

the thing with baseball is.. the less you know about the sport the more boring you will find it. people who havnt played or understand the game cant keep up with what is actually happening. its not just a game between a pitcher and a hitter

Yeah, what I’ve read those is it’s gotten a bump from zoomers due to cool plays on tik tok, plus ohtani is a lightning rod for viewership. It’ll never be NFL but it’s in a better spot than it was maybe 5 years ago.

                Anonymous

eh they changed the rules to speed the game up for the zoomers attention spam kek

pitchers are on a 15/20 second pitch timer and batters have to be in the box within 8 seconds. catchers can also communicate with pitchers wirelessly

                >pitchers can’t grab their balls, adjust the hat, and edge on the mound for 5 minutes and might have to be slightly fitter than Bartolo or Sabathias mass combined

Unironically ok with those changes plus the bag size leading to more steals. There’s still too many games for most people to care, plus the velo increase means pitchers are hurt all the time. Unironically think the product would be higher grossing long term with less games and better marketing, but then it wouldn’t be baseball. If my aunt had balls she’d be my uncle.

i agree with shorter season. its kind of absurd. they biggest problem with MLB is the lack of salary cap. teams with 200+ million payroll against teams with sub 30m payroll makes for a non-competitive league

    Entire mediums dying isn't unprecedented

    What's your favorite radio drama?
    What's your favorite pulp novel?

Television and film are at their end. It's only jarring because they've been around your whole life.

they dont HAVE to die though, theyre just rehashing and retuning the same IPs over and over and over because of their fear of new ideas over “tried and true” franchises. Hell you could make a lot of the older content relevant given a new vision and a studio thats willing to take a chance without blatant dei pandering

Say what you want, but covid lockdowns and Netflix productions really put a damper on the old Hollywood model. I admit, we're spoiled as frick because we can marathon an entire show on a weekend instead of watching it weekly.

My library actually has The Rocketeer comic. It's so fricking fun and it's a shame it doesn't have more stories.

Jennifer Connelly was at her peak hotness in that movie. Billy Campbell was a lucky frick to have had her for several years.

used that as an example obviously but studios would rather just want “rocketeer but a woman” instead of “rocketeer but decades in the future” or something
-yeah she was great but no way you would get a beautiful brunette again if that comic ever got another film reboot

I was 6 years old when I saw The Rocketeer on the Sci-Fi channel once Sunday afternoon. I was just blown away how beautiful she was in that white dress. And I wanted to look like Billy Campbell because he just oozed chadness.

Fricking blows that you're right. Why are people against depicting attractive white cisgender hetero people? Much less an alpha macho hero?

Allow me to break the news that your strawman actually exists and you didn't even know about it
There's a whole ass Disney+ CGI series about the elderly Rocketeer passing down his jetpack and his nazi-fighting mission to his brown granddaughter

It was widely praised for "breaking stereotypes and flipping the script to empower girls"

It's just that it's gotten more flagrant with the heavy-handedness and there's not enough entertainment value to offset the preaching.

I lean liberal but even I'm finding this woke shit to be insufferable. This is why I'm watching pre-2010's movies and shows as well as foreign stuff from Japan, South Korea, the UK, France, Hong Kong, etc.

All those things were caused by Hollywood making woke shit that nobody wanted to watch. People would still have cable if it had great new shows on it. But nobody is going to keep paying for endless Friends reruns + new shows that are nothing but gay blacks screaming about how bad whites are.

How do they make money on woke shit because I don’t know anyone IRL that wants that even the normies, and if they keep hemorrhaging absolutely insane amounts of money how aren’t they bankrupt right now? It’s obvious to me things “seem to be getting worse” but it also seems like it never matters. Same as vidya all these companies that are supposed to go under never do. The get woke go broke thing only seems to really hit smaller studios, these massive ones seem totally insulated from any consequences of “the free market.” I’ve just seen this 2 more weeks shit for wokeslop being doomed for probably a decade or more now and it’s always 2 more weeks away. The modern economy is too fake and gay and detached from reality to represent any meaningful consequences of pissing off consumers. These companies can act moronic for decades and still find ways to fleece money and israeli tricks to move debt around and restructure etc.
