Was anyone else confused by the boating school looking like a tradition school with lockers and stairs for the purpose of this episode?

yeah it felt like they needed everyone to forget it was an adult driving class essentially, and become a traditional children's school, just for this episode

speaking of which, it's always weird to think how old spongbong is, like nowadays we can't even imgine him having a regular human age but he was clearly made with one in mine
i always figured he's kinda meant to be an older teen, barely a young adult. like 16 or something, just getting his first job and learning to drive

I always viewed him as a young adult
      >working and paying bills
      >trying to get his license
      >dealing with awkward friendships like squidward

      he owns a house though

yeah yeah everyone says that but i figured it's just easier to portray him as living alone for the sake of story
besides, some 16 year olds can live alone

Well Patrick was old community college friends with Flats the Flounder. That would be weird for 1 30 yr old to be best friends with a post pubescent.

              rewatch the episode, dumbass
the weird part is Patrick going to college in the first place

The joke is that even someone like Patrick can make it into community college.

not really? it's not unreasonable, it's only weird to us now in this post pedo panic world where everyone who even so much as interacts with someone younger is shunned

before the 2000s it was normal for teens and young adults to have older buddies
            i personally know a few

It's not THAT weird. You can befriend your twink coworkers, especially if you're moronic

They weirdly drove home the point of him being a "kid" in the first movie

because he probably was a kid to everyone around, hell, he would be a kid if he was 15, 18, 20, 25... because everyone around is still older than him and has so much more experience and he's still just a young childish lad

i do think the movie hammering in how much of a 'kid' he is was unfortunately a bottleneck of sorts in how the show went on to characterize him later, because they took that literally and ran with it, turning him into a complete infantile baby

He's a "kid" relative to Mr. Krabs and Squidward, who view him as young and naive.

Boating school was just Hillenburg and Nick making a compromise between making SpongeBob a child or adult

Jesus christ, were any of you ever kids that let your imaginations fill in blanks? Why does any of this have any reason to be logical.

Nickelodeon wanted SpongeBob to be a kid attending school instead of an adult, so Hillenburg created the boating school as a compromise.
