Why would Greg need another friend? He works best alone or with one moron to wrangle, giving him too many friends would ruin his character

While you do perhaps have a point, I think it's important to know that Greg's diaries are unreliable and are subject to his bias. Rowley, despite being called moronic by Greg, doesn't actually seem that way. At most, Rowley is naïve and gullible.

What does that change? He's a fictional character within the diaries, the diaries ARE the story, they're not supplementary material to anything else, if we're talking about Greg's story were purely talking about the diaries

There's currently a Ziglezogle or whatever that show is called thread that's obviously a covert Sharty thread
