Michael Mann movies always felt kinda like power fantasies to me, very indulgent. They're like Bay flicks just without all the explosions, and with somewhat more subdued characterization.
Michael Mann's best film is Ferrari starring Sarah Gadon.
It's a decent movie, has some pretty idiotic plot points though iirc. It should have been about 30 mins shorter, and the whole plot with the suicidal daughter was pointless and didn't add anything. Acting in the movie was very good overall though, and it's entertaining enough.
The suicidal daughter plot just magnifies how focused he is on taking down criminals. He has let his marriage and by extension his daughters mental health slip to the point where she wants to die. The man has no balance in his life to where his family is falling apart. But he persists. Just like the criminals do. He has to decide if his vigilance is worth what happens to those around him. Its tragic

It’s only really good if you’re into guns.
Gun enthusiasts like it because it’s the only film in movie history that actually understands that guns are REALLY LOUD.
I don't know shit about guns but I've rewatched Heat at least 10 times
>It’s only really good if you’re a straight male

only good sene is the part with the gunes
I don't really like anything Michael Mann has ever made
His dad Gary Oldmann was better
Last of the Mohicans is an amazing film if you can forget it was part of a lame obsession with with amerindians that was very popular in the 90s.
The best parts of Manhunter and Heat are the cinematography followed by the casting.

I haven't watched all of Mann's stuff, but to call HEAT or even Collateral a power fantasy feels like it's missing the point in my opinion.
Sure is underage in here today.
One of the best movies of the 1990s. Near the end of prime DeNiro.
This, The Departed, and Interstellar are my three most overrated movies
Top3 for me
Departed kind of sucked
On the other hand I notice the flaws of Gangs of New York less and its strengths more every time I watch it
Idk I like some of Manns stuff but I think Heat was ruined with some of the family and kid shit
If there was an edit that removed Pacino it would be kino
gay piece of shit for morons
Mann is a boomerslop meme
