>went to the kinoplex on premiere >scene where the joker baby smacks a Black person head with a pencil >kid in front of us says: "Dad the joker has magic?" >friend burst out laughing the whole damn movie
The Dark Knight is a pretty garbage movie held up almost entirely by Heath Ledger overacting. I think the "best supporting actor" should be a role like that. Brad Pitt wasn't a good actor in Once Upon a Time, but his acting held up the movie.
People were already praising his performance when the 1st trailer came out. It blew everyone away. Zoomers don't know how angry people were over Heath being casted as the Joker. And the trailer single handedly changed everyone's mind.
>Zoomers don't know how angry people were over Heath being casted as the Joker. And the trailer single handedly changed everyone's mind
Yep. >Before trailer: This is a fricking joke, He's the clown prince of crime, not a homeless bum! And he's being played by some award-chasing peter puffer?!?! >After trailer: FFFfffrickkk, this is gonna be KINO
Huge Batgay here, I nearly shit myself crying when I watched this opening night on the town's one imax screen back in the day. Nobody thought the casting was good myself included but as early as the bank heist trailer things were looking promising. By the time the credits rolled I swear I started a slow clap. This was the batman movie i always envisioned after the gay colorful ones from the 90s.
>This was the batman movie i always envisioned after the gay colorful ones from the 90s.
How does it feel knowing that nu-comicbook fans hate this and think gay colorful Batman is more accurate to the source material?
I actually read comics so I don't really care what normies say. I saw a post on Instagram of someone using AI to depict certain actors in his fictious Justice League movie and 90% of the comments told him Captain Marvel's name is Shazam.
Honestly never even heard of that. Most batman communities I've been on love the nolan movies. Only a few contrarians like armond white feel otherwise.
This, but I periodically had to roll around on the theater floor in front of the screen mouthing the words "This is reddit, this is memes, this is reddit, this is memes"
I too clap-cried when the credits hit.
I dont get why zoomers hate the dark knight lol
The dark knight is kino

Dont say heat. Robert deniro and al pacino is no joker
>Deniro is boring in heat
i'll actually agree with that. he certainly was not the highlight of the film.
He was written that way though. Given the dialogue, themes, and the way his character was written, how would Deniro have acted in a way to be less boring?
good point. though i do think he could have given a better performance when i compare it to Casino, where i feel his character was written in a similar style. but you're probably right.
The entire opening scene was fricking terrible. I've never understood the hype. It would have been infinitely better if it was more or less silent. The dialogue between the clown robbers was atrocious.
it was moronic because it didn't make sense, a school bus crashes into a bank in the middle of gotham in broad daylight and then leaves in a column of regular school buses? this shit makes no sense
>it was moronic because it didn't make sense, a school bus crashes into a bank in the middle of gotham in broad daylight and then leaves in a column of regular school buses?
Yes, I know you're a plot point mental midget. Most TDK haters are.
It's also weird because there's two of them alive at this point so clearly his friends weren't dead. Was this just continuity error that got left in the film?
his acting was good, I can't see heath ledger in joker no matter how hard I try, it's like they're two different persons. meanwhile bale acts like his every other role
The award was entirely for his acting in the scene with Maggie Gyllenhaal. He managed to say "Hello Beautiful" to her without vomiting after only 274 takes. Only a master could do it.
I never knew of Heath. I didn't care for Batman. I saw this on my laptop in 2010 two years after its release. I was so blown away by this flick, it got me into films as a hobby.
That's why I don't care when people make claims like this. Especially online. I'll always remember how each time some capeshit with 80+RT got released it homosexuals would go "Bro, Bro, TDK is overrated bro. It was carried by Ledger who got overrated due to his death. Now Winter Soldier/Civil War/GOTG/Endgame/Logan, NOW THAT'S a great superhero movie".
Lol and then said capeshit would disappear off publoc discourse in a month.
The joker is incredibly hard to pull off without being cringe (see Leto or the indian Joker). Ledger somehow found a good sweet spot to exist, which was also a very original take on the character, and a lot of it was built by him. Phoenix took a lot from him too. So yeah, he deserves the praise.
The more I watch the movie, the weirder its pacing and dialog feels. Like it almost feels sped up or something, and gives me this 'watching a play' kind of feeling most of the time, it's weird. I don't whether it's the writing or the performances or what.
Anyway, having said that, yeah, Ledger's acting is that good. Right from my first watch I constantly found myself just waiting for his next scene.
yes it was that good
before the movie came out or any footage of the joker was shown the majority word of mouth was "wtf is the pretty boy from 10 things i hate about you and knights tale playing the joker?"
the only positive thing i read before the reveal was "maybe give heath ledger a shoot", there was no heath ledger can do it! nor the oscar nom can definitely pull it off
No, people would consider it a great performance. He wouldn't have won the oscar though, but would still be nominated.
Who would have won it then? RDJ on blackface?
>movie is mid af
>some pseud shit about "game theory" and white and dark knights or whatever
>only watchable thanks to funny clown man
I'd say so.
Who did it better, ledger or lee?
LIGHT IT UP
He had the crazy people ticks down pretty well. There was a bit of uncleanliness too that made it better. It was legitimately a good version.
Best acting I ever saw to be honest
He was good, but his death catapaulted him into untouchable god status
It's a well written and performed role. We can leave the BEST EVARRR debates to the Redditors.
Considering up to this point, people were like "oh no, the gay from brokeback mountain is going to be joker!?", he absolutely proved them wrong.
>went to the kinoplex on premiere

>calls Saggy Maggie hello beautiful
It was great acting
Dr. Parnassus, like all Terry Gilliam films is underrated
The fact your still talking about it means it was THAT good.
People were already praising his performance when the 1st trailer came out. It blew everyone away. Zoomers don't know how angry people were over Heath being casted as the Joker. And the trailer single handedly changed everyone's mind.
I remember this, had completely forgotten about it at the time.

Yep.

It was uncannily great. Even Werner Herzog was impressed.
Nah the movie was only saved by the chink on the tv

That's prevailing sentiment on online comic communities.
>How does it feel knowing that nu-comicbook fans
There is no way to finish this sentence with me caring.
feels nice to have different material with contrast honestly
This, but I periodically had to roll around on the theater floor in front of the screen mouthing the words "This is reddit, this is memes, this is reddit, this is memes"
I too clap-cried when the credits hit.

>THE_JEWS_KILLED_JESUS CHRIST
Anon, no! That's illegal!
It was genuinely a great performance, further elevated by comparison to how bad the other aspects of nolan's batman flicks were.

Dont say heat. Robert deniro and al pacino is no joker
>Robert deniro and al pacino
And Pacino was actually overracting there. It was around Heat where he became a parody of himself.
i disagree. pacino acting came off as though he was getting three hours of sleep a night and running on caffeine. it fit the role.
Deniro is boring in heat
Maybe if that deniro played his cape fear rapist character in heat it would be more entertaining
>Deniro is boring in heat
i'll actually agree with that. he certainly was not the highlight of the film.

Compare him to Cruise in Collateral.
list another movie like the dark knight? oh, i dont know, have you ever heard of THE MATRIX big guy?
They were talking about it being Oscar worthy even before he died.
Can we get a quick rundown on this guy?
>Think you're smart huh?
>The kind that hired Hughes... they'll do the same to you
He clearly knew too much, wonder who the frick is this Hughes guy
Howard Hughes.
The entire opening scene was fricking terrible. I've never understood the hype. It would have been infinitely better if it was more or less silent. The dialogue between the clown robbers was atrocious.

Stop letting memes rot your brain.

Yes, I know you're a plot point mental midget. Most TDK haters are.
I never liked it.
>Ewan, your friends are dead!
Who was Ewan? I swear he never gets brought up again in the movie after this point.
It's also weird because there's two of them alive at this point so clearly his friends weren't dead. Was this just continuity error that got left in the film?
How did he know Dunn Hier had died?
It's strange that he knew the names of two of the bank robbers in this scene, did he know it was an inside job or something?
his acting was good, I can't see heath ledger in joker no matter how hard I try, it's like they're two different persons. meanwhile bale acts like his every other role
It aged badly. In hindsight, one of the worse Batman films.
The award was entirely for his acting in the scene with Maggie Gyllenhaal. He managed to say "Hello Beautiful" to her without vomiting after only 274 takes. Only a master could do it.
Compare Heat Legend in this to his role in say, A Knight's Tale or The Patriot. You'd have no idea it was the same actor.
his performance really was good. But the best Joker was Jared Leto. Because Leto really understood the character.
He was just a Saints Row meme character. Nothing about him was identifiable.
I never knew of Heath. I didn't care for Batman. I saw this on my laptop in 2010 two years after its release. I was so blown away by this flick, it got me into films as a hobby.

How does Da Jokah Baby compare to the others? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPpWzS3nCwM
Incomparable, a Hegelian synthesis of the character
A Knight's Tale was one of my favorite movies when I was younger.
I didn't even realize it was the same actor until after I watched the movie.
Great actor. In retrospect the movie was just acceptable, especially the third act, due to writing. He made it a lot more watchable.
why didn't they just go like this?
Erm... your not supposed to notice plot holes chud?
People say the heat rivalry is like dark knight
Not really
Dark knight is crazy person vs crazy person
Heat is crazy person vs straight man [deniro]
>straight man [deniro]
Objection!
Famous for dying during post-production.
I didn't even know he was dead when I saw it. Amazing performance that carries the film
L O O K

He literally ripped off his performance from Brandon Lee in The Crow
and ostensibly tom waits. but if you can successfully rip off somebody else's performance or mannerisms, you are probably a good actor
apology for poor english
when were you when heat legend dies
i was at home drinking brain fluid when fred ring
'heat is die'
'no'
and you?????????????
