it was actually 3 times as big as at (arnold refused to pick up a smaller log) but they thought it was too unbelievable so they digitally shrunk it to make it look smaller, kinda like how they did with willem dafoe's dick in that one movie

Crane suspending it just out of frame on the right. Likely extends behind the rock on the left, with the far end painted to match the background.

Otherwise it would tilt forward, basic center of mass even if this actor was the strongest man in the world and he had metal plates in his arms.

looks like pine which has a density of around 600 kg per cubic meter
the log looks around 2.5 meters long with a diameter of around 30 cm
this would make the log roughly 100 kg
depending on how fast and how easy he would be able to move it around in the scene (overcoming it's inertia) you could tell from that
but since this is a movie, the filmmakers would never risk the safety of their star of the movie by giving him a real 100 kg log for no reason
    result: it's fake 100%

      Anonymous

Arnie at his peak could bench 200+ kg. A 100kg log resting on his shoulder wouldn't be much of an issue for him.

there is a very slight difference between pressing a weight up with your arms and chest that is suspended in the air directly above your chest and lifting an object high enough to be able to rest it on your shoulder and walking around with it.
seriously, have you never picked something up in your life?

I'm carried enough things to know that it's much easier to carry something on your shoulders than to lift it.
Do the movie show him lift it or just carry it?

            Anonymous

balancing a 100kg log on your shoulders is NOT easy. even keeping it balanced on your shoulder would be massively difficult, let alone walking around with it.

      Anonymous

I looked up the scene and based on how he's carrying it, no
even a softwood log of that size would weigh too much to be kept tilted forward like he does with it
he's also not holding it in the exact middle
it's also bouncing and turning on his shoulder like it's light, it doesn't have realistic momentum
carrying a log of this size isn't infeasible, but you absolutely need to have the correct technique otherwise you lose control of the log or break your body
      t. rural finngay who was a forestry slave to his parents since a kid

it would be 20-40% heavier than that because it's fresh, depending on exact species and rainfall etc. you moron

He's holding the saw wrong, should be backwards. Arnold is 6ft 2 so that log looks like it's at least 10ft long and looks like a type of pine. If it was dead the bark would be sheering off in sheets and he wouldn't be able to pick it up without the bark coming off. Depending on the type of pine a fresh cut log of that size could be very light compared to some much denser woods. I think he could lift and carry it. With all that being said I seem to recall the Directors commentary saying he didn't want to carry a real one so they made a prop. It was the same thing with holding sully over a cliff. They director just thought he was strong enough to do it and Arnold had to tell them they were fricking moronic.
