My only nitpick was the glowBlack folk getting slaughtered by the predator. If they had just put up a good fight and Busey had a kino Yamcha moment then I feel the movie would have been damn near perfect. At the very least Glover taking out the predator in the final scene would have made more sense if it was already almost dead when it made it to the ship like a wounded tiger making its last stand.
yeah and after he gets blasted he still grabs harrigan by the throat and throws his across the warehouse. i love the part right after busey gets killed and then harrigan gets scared as shit and takes off up the ladder

pretty sure the predator gets shot like 5 times with a 12gauge in the warehouse. From there on he is on the run from glover.
yeah and after he gets blasted he still grabs harrigan by the throat and throws his across the warehouse. i love the part right after busey gets killed and then harrigan gets scared as shit and takes off up the ladder
AND Glover took off his hand on the side of the building.
I enjoy it more than the first, mostly because I watched it more when I was younger and I enjoy how crazy and over the top it is. 1 is probably the better movie but 2 has so much dumb memorable bits to me that I find it more entertaining.
I agree with this anon. 2 is more fun than 1 thanks to the setting change and the more varied and colorful cast. But 1 is the better overall movie. The fear of every single member of Dutch’s team dying at any moment is omnipresent in 1. In 2 there are a lot of times where we feel Glover’s character is “safe.”
I will never not laugh at his line though, “That’s right, butthole. Shit happens.”
I think it's as good a sequel you could ask for in terms of expanding on the Predator/Yautja fiction.
The movie is a vehicle for the Yautja character and it's a lot of fun to watch, if you're just watching for an interesting movie monster.
Predator is the better film though.
Danny Glover is not as convincing a match for the Predator monster.
City Hunter also comes off as a bit incompetent, particularly during the ending. I have no problem with this, I think I rationalize it as City Hunter being a younger hunter trying (and failing) to prove himself, but it's not quite as thrilling a cat and mouse game as the first movie.
BUT
All that said, Danny glover does a good job, lots of cool action scenes, interesting themes, particularly with the voodoo comparisons: again, its about all I could ask for in terms of expanding the fiction of the Yautja monsters.
Predator is an A+ Movie and Predator 2 is B+. It's not as good as the first, but is pretty good in it's own right and makes good additions to the lore without having to retcon anything.
yea, it's a good sequel in that it doesn't frick up the original and it's still an entertaining movie
but the original is one of the best films ever made, very difficult to improve
My mom worked at an electronics store that also rented out movies when this came out on vhs and made a copy of it for us. It was really shitty quality but I probably watched it a hundred times.
Predator 1, Alien, Aliens and Predator 2 were my most watched movies from kindergarten to 5th grade. Extreme violence, drug use, sex, and excessive cursing and my parents still let me watch them. They didn't give a frick. I use to love watching the making of them on the show Movie Magic. That show should come back, it was great.
I always loved it, was shocked to hear how many people thought it was bad and lumped it in with shit like Alien 3/Ressurection for shittiest sequels.
I don't think it's as good a movie as 1, but it's vastly more rewatchable and fun and expanded on the cool weapons and gadgets. I also think Glover was a great protagonist and it was smart not to try and copy Arnie's style after he turned down the part, helps the film stand on its own. The side characters were all great as well, and the setting was excellent.
Idk why but I found it hilarious when predator falls from the roof grabs the pipe or something and crashes though the wall to that toilet. Something about that scene
Worthy sequel, but an underwhelming movie. No muscles, only sweat and Glover's pantyline. You could replace Bill Paxton and no one would notice, and Mexican partner is like Robin in the old Batman series, even though he and Glover are the same age. They even call him Danny-boy. He also got scolded on camera by the director, lmao. Predator and Jamaican scenes are great, the rest is padding.
It has things to recommend it, but it's nowhere near as amazing as the first film. It's fun getting more hints about the Predator's world, but the cast isn't as compelling as Arnie and the Commandos, and Gary Busey and his black ops dudes getting wiped out feels like a pale imitation of Aliens.
If you want a genuinely good take on "Predator in a crime-ridden city", then, I shit you not, check out the original Batman vs. Predator comic book. It does a super good job of showing you the weird logic behind the Predator's behavior, how it doesn't *quite* understand how human culture works but knows enough to sort out who the most dangerous prey is.
I've always liked it nearly as much as the original, though I first saw it as a kid so I'm biased. I still enjoy it though:
>does something new, changes the setting from jungle to city >Danny Glover and Gary Busey >Predator wastes a shitton of scumbag gangbangers and Feds; met gore quota >cool new Predator weapons like the staff, bladed disc, and razor-wire net >memorable lines like "Want some candy?", "Shit happens," and "So you're cutting off my dick and shoving it up my ass!"
I also love how they expand the lore without a bunch of tedious exposition about the "Predator High Council" or what they call their different weapons or whatever. Just a quick glance at their trophy room and an old Flintlock tells you everything you need to know about Predators.
It's flawed fun. The first one is a genuinely good movie, not just a good 80s action movie. The directing, the build up, everything is great. This one isn't nearly as tight and as well directed, but it remains consistently fun throughout.
Also the OST reprises the first one but switches it up enough to be kino instead of just retreading old ground.
I'm knocking on wood as I write this, but Predator is probably the only movie monster that retains its cool factor to me, compared to the other big names from the 80's.
The Alien series immediately cucked the xeno from ever being scary again with Aliens turning them into insect-brained cannon fodder. Aliens was a great Starship Troopers movie but there isn't a single Alien sequel, including aliens, that's retained or recaptured the mystique of the original. Ridley is doing his damndest, bless him.
Terminator over the years has proven to be a one trick pony: "Somehow, Skynet has returned" where they just keep pulling a new threat out of the future, by which I mean the writers asses.
Predator is still cool.
No matter how shitty some of the sequels are, or how silly the additions to the lore (like Autism harvesting) the concept of the Yautja is still cool.
I love Predator 2, one of the few things I don't like about it is how much the Predator just stands there and gets shot at. Once on the subway train, the other time when he gets shotgunned in the big meat warehouse. It makes the Predator seem pretty stupid. So does the fact that at the end, the Predator walks right up to Harrigan and gets killed even though it should know by then how dangerous Harrigan is, given that Harrigan cut its hand off.
lions, tigers, bears OH MY
It was kino.
>predator
Kino
>city setting
Kino
Yes.
I haven't seen this move in over 20 years. I hate the phrase "le aged good/bad" but does it hold up like Terminator 2 or The Matrix on rewatch?
It's a fun watch. Holds up better than some other sequels.
The Matrix has aged very badly
sure was my man
This was dumb.
The entire movie is dumb, the climactic battle involves Gary Buesy with an ice gun.
My only nitpick was the glowBlack folk getting slaughtered by the predator. How???

VOODOO MAGIC
yeah its great. love the beginning how they briefly show what appears to be a jungle and then the camera moves to the city
>It's OK, I'm a cop
>I don't think he gives a shit
>old lady hears monster banging around in the bathroom
>she gets a broom to defend herself
I enjoyed it a lot as a kid and it only grew on me over the years. I love the train and slaughterhouse scenes.
It has a great spooky atmosphere. A different kind of sequel but done right.
It's suprisingly good, with some good twists and turns that builds upon the logic of the first one
It's the only one that still felt hot. Jungle planet has sweat everywhere, but no one is bothered by it.
I think it's as good a sequel you could ask for in terms of expanding on the Predator/Yautja fiction.

Nope. The first one is top 5 action films tier classic.
Predator is an A+ Movie and Predator 2 is B+. It's not as good as the first, but is pretty good in it's own right and makes good additions to the lore without having to retcon anything.

this is a 100% accurate post and the anon who made is A okay with me.
You're both sweaty!

i only found out a couple years ago that king willie wasn't played by whoopie goldberg
but they all look alike lol
i'm trans btw
I always loved it, was shocked to hear how many people thought it was bad and lumped it in with shit like Alien 3/Ressurection for shittiest sequels.

Just birds. It’s just damn birds.
yeah, it's great
Better than the first one.
Yes and it was the last real Predator movie.
i've seen bits of the later movies and they are all moronic and not in a funny way
Worthy sequel, but an underwhelming movie. No muscles, only sweat and Glover's pantyline. Ruben Blades was doing an interview on set and Stephen Hopkins told him to get back to work thinking he was holding up production.
This was a tough shoot I've heard because the neighborhood was very rough.
Yeah, and then Predator killed him and stole his necklace. Poor Mexican fella!
Yeah I love this movie. The setting is fricking great. It's biggest flaw is that its like 15 minutes too long, the final act drags on for too long

Carl and Arnie likely tag teamed her between takes
I like her little fangs.

Plus, the glance we got of a xenomorph skull was mindblowing at the time.
HOW ARE THESE?
I liked Flesh and Blood, haven't read any others
