Overall Homelander is still stronger because of the extra powers, but the physically they are equals, and soldier boy will probably do better next time. As for people claiming he was winning the 2v1, what show did you even watch? He was completely on the ropes in the 2v1, so much so that Hughie just being there to distract him without doing anything got him subdued almost immediately. The 1v1 was competitive but Homelander has a clear advantage. The 2v1 he was getting pushed constantly and would eventually lose. And the 3v1 that is closer to 2v1 but with Hughie distracting him, got him subdued immediately. The only reason he is alive is because flight is a free get out of jail card. People also shouldn't underestimate Homelander though, no other supe could push him like that, Butcher is like the stronger supe we have seen besides Homelander and soldier boy, but a couple of punches were getting him hurt seriously while Soldier Boy was visually unscathed out of a much more intense and longer fight . They needed soldier boy to be the cornerstone as a physical equal to Homelander for Butcher and Hughie to do anything against him.

They had HL pinned for more than enough time for SB to use his attack, but it took far too long and seemed like he was struggling, giving HL enough time to break free and fly away.

A loss for everyone. Homelander discovered he's not as untouchable as he thought and got beaten up. Soldier Boy now knows he can't take Homelander alone so might not want to risk it again. Butcher showed his hand so the element of surprise is gone, and he's also not as strong as Homelander. And Hughie is still a gay even with powers.

That's hack writers for you. I was involved once in a writers' room and I was embarrassed of the process involved when you have multiple people trying to come up with plots. Most come in with their own scripts, but they conflict with each other so they end up just having "key points" they want to include. They throw out tropes and stereotypes at random and then try to tie them all together with whatever half-assed plot thread they can work out, with what little character development usually appearing by coincedence (or unnoticed until someone points out an opportunity for them).
With Starlight, I can see it as clear as day. They forget about her quite a lot, so they just treat her as "oh we can do this with her, then", and it's usually just to fill the "woman" role. The stereotypes of nagging, and no violence, and random illogical moments. They did it to the Asian girl as well for a bit, suddenly made her not want to be a supe or kill people, as if it made any sense at all.
In a sensible show, she would've joined in because Homelander killed her friend, threatens Hughie, and manipulates her. Instead, they needed her out of the equation, so she suddenly loses all previous experience and walks away with MM (who they also don't know what to do with, he was going to take out a supe with a gun? He's not normally moronic).
Yeah, it's sad to say but Starlight's real antagonist this season has been bad writing. She tries to take moral high grounds but in the same breath ends up killing a guy for his car, while saying the Boys shouldn't work with murderers. Bad writing is holding her back.

I was a little confused with why he was captured and why that hot b***h from season 1 that he was fricking suddenly showed up as well, but I don't think I'm missing anything relevant to the actual meat of the story so I don't care.

Homeland is stronger than butcher, solider boy and huey. Homelander was beating Solider boy 1v1 you can see he had him by the neck in a strangle, then he is knocked away by butcher and huey. Homelander was surprised by the 3 of them and did lose the fight vs. all 3, however was powerful enough to escape. Homelander's next fight against them will not play out the same as he knows their strategy now. So to be clear Homelander is stronger than each of them individually. This was a big let down for me because I was hoping solider boy would be on par with him and be the only one able to go toe-to-toe, but the episode proved Homelander is too much for one supe / temp supe at a time.

Sorry but I'm not buying this. There is no way that there isn't another supe out there with a powerful energy blast attack. And SB energy attack seems to only be large building-city block level(and that's a high ball at that). There is probably a handful supes that exist in that universe with that level of energy blast attack or could be created by temp v.
Now, some would argue it isn't about the AP of solider boy energy blast that makes him unreplaceable in a HL battle but rather it's ability to disable the effects of compound V is. Logic being if his powers are gone you can penetrate his durability and kill him.
Even if this is true, which it's not even clear to me that it is since HL&Ryan were born supes rather than ones that took the v serum, I still have no reason to believe that HL's durability is so powerful that you need to disable his powers to kill him. Go back and look at the fight, HL was bruised by punches and Butchers laser blasts, he is on their tier of durability not on some un fathomable level. His flesh/body can definitely be penetrated.
He can laser like 99% of all supes. Its an easy win. The rest he could pummel, its not like they could hurt him. Soldierboy is also on another level remember? Homelander went in psycho mode and still had to run, whereas Soldier Boy was unprepared, visibly sluggish and tired because of having blacked out a minute ago and worst of all wienery, Soldier Boy underestimated him more than Homelander did. Overall Homelander is still stronger because of the extra powers, but the physically they are equals, and soldier boy will probably do better next time. As for people claiming he was winning the 2v1, what show did you even watch? He was completely on the ropes in the 2v1, so much so that Hughie just being there to distract him without doing anything got him subdued almost immediately. The 1v1 was competitive but Homelander has a clear advantage. The 2v1 he was getting pushed constantly and would eventually lose. And the 3v1 that is closer to 2v1 but with Hughie distracting him, got him subdued immediately. The only reason he is alive is because flight is a free get out of jail card. People also shouldn't underestimate Homelander though, no other supe could push him like that, Butcher is like the stronger supe we have seen besides Homelander and soldier boy, but a couple of punches were getting him hurt seriously while Soldier Boy was visually unscathed out of a much more intense and longer fight . They needed soldier boy to be the cornerstone as a physical equal to Homelander for Butcher and Hughie to do anything against him.

They had HL pinned for more than enough time for SB to use his attack, but it took far too long and seemed like he was struggling, giving HL enough time to break free and fly away.
I think if HL fought SB when he's fresh, it'd be a much different fight.

A loss for everyone. Homelander discovered he's not as untouchable as he thought and got beaten up. Soldier Boy now knows he can't take Homelander alone so might not want to risk it again. Butcher showed his hand so the element of surprise is gone, and he's also not as strong as Homelander. And Hughie is still a gay even with powers.

That's hack writers for you. I was involved once in a writers' room and I was embarrassed of the process involved when you have multiple people trying to come up with plots. Most come in with their own scripts, but they conflict with each other so they end up just having "key points" they want to include. They throw out tropes and stereotypes at random and then try to tie them all together with whatever half-assed plot thread they can work out, with what little character development usually appearing by coincedence (or unnoticed until someone points out an opportunity for them).
With Starlight, I can see it as clear as day. They forget about her quite a lot, so they just treat her as "oh we can do this with her, then", and it's usually just to fill the "woman" role. The stereotypes of nagging, and no violence, and random illogical moments. They did it to the Asian girl as well for a bit, suddenly made her not want to be a supe or kill people, as if it made any sense at all.
In a sensible show, she would've joined in because Homelander killed her friend, threatens Hughie, and manipulates her. Instead, they needed her out of the equation, so she suddenly loses all previous experience and walks away with MM (who they also don't know what to do with, he was going to take out a supe with a gun? He's not normally moronic).
Yeah, it's sad to say but Starlight's real antagonist this season has been bad writing. She tries to take moral high grounds but in the same breath ends up killing a guy for his car, while saying the Boys shouldn't work with murderers. Bad writing is holding her back.

Homeland is stronger than butcher, solider boy and huey. Homelander was beating Solider boy 1v1 you can see he had him by the neck in a strangle, then he is knocked away by butcher and huey. Homelander was surprised by the 3 of them and did lose the fight vs. all 3, however was powerful enough to escape. Homelander's next fight against them will not play out the same as he knows their strategy now. So to be clear Homelander is stronger than each of them individually. This was a big let down for me because I was hoping solider boy would be on par with him and be the only one able to go toe-to-toe, but the episode proved Homelander is too much for one supe / temp supe at a time.

A supe party with 2 or 3 strong close range fighters that can occupy HL attention/bind him down with 1-2 supes in the back acting as artillery/support(like hughie teleporting in-out when the fighter supes get overwhelmed or a ranged nuker--think crimson countess or stormfront like powers--just spamming blasts with massive attack power when the fighters have HL tied down)

Because even if you could theoretically "defeat" him you couldn't kill him without Soldier Boy's power. Even if every single Supe in the world except for Soldier Boy teamed up he could just outlast everybody

Sorry but I'm not buying this. There is no way that there isn't another supe out there with a powerful energy blast attack. And SB energy attack seems to only be large building-city block level(and that's a high ball at that). There is probably a handful supes that exist in that universe with that level of energy blast attack or could be created by temp v.
Now, some would argue it isn't about the AP of solider boy energy blast that makes him unreplaceable in a HL battle but rather it's ability to disable the effects of compound V is. Logic being if his powers are gone you can penetrate his durability and kill him.
Even if this is true, which it's not even clear to me that it is since HL&Ryan were born supes rather than ones that took the v serum, I still have no reason to believe that HL's durability is so powerful that you need to disable his powers to kill him. Go back and look at the fight, HL was bruised by punches and Butchers laser blasts, he is on their tier of durability not on some un fathomable level. His flesh/body can definitely be penetrated.
SB undoes Comp V. Thats what sets it appart from "energy blasts" if energy blasts worked Starlight would be sufficient.
He can laser like 99% of all supes. Its an easy win. The rest he could pummel, its not like they could hurt him. Soldierboy is also on another level remember? Everyone is almost as scared of him as Homelander. The real key here though is Soldierboy's Anti-V beam which is basically kryptonite to all supes. Thats the best weapon anyone could ever bring to fight Homelander.
