Usual a24 problem. 45 minutes of content stretched into 90 minutes or more. The premise was great but they went nowhere with it. Also they went out of their way to make the mc unlikeable because implications about moronic cancel culture. Could have been great but completely fizzled out in the third act
1st act is great, 10/10 movie
everything after the awkward sex dream reenactment was terrible
shoehorning wokeism and cancel culture and dumb shit into the 3rd act and it didn't fit
ending kinda redeemed it but was still meh
I'd say solid 6.5 maybe 7/10. The execution for the interesting concept (guy who appears in everyone's dreams is about cancel culture!!!) is extremely disappointing and generic.
Also holy shit the fake commercial at the end was such an overdone cringe meta trope.
It’s not wokeshit. Guy does nothing wrong and everyone hates him for it. He tries to stand up for himself so he can live his own life and things only get worse. It’s not fair at all to how their life gets ruined and then people forget and move on. That’s cancel culture.
The one bad thing he did was attempting under a suspicion that his wife was having an affair to having his own that fails It is possible he could control his fate in their dreams because this event may have lead to the nightmares.
He did plenty wrong. He would have cheated on his wife with the redhead if he could have. He was too concerned with how others perceived him to the point where he didn’t value what he had. It isn’t until after he coomed and farded with the young chick that the dreams become nightmares. And then there’s his self-serving apology. He’s just a pathetic guy who tried to leverage his strange fame despite his wife’s warnings and the fact that they were almost murdered in their sleep.
Fist half of the movie was great, but second half was pretty bad had all the worst parts of your average A24 movie in it. I feel like the writers had an interesting concept, but didn't know how to end it or where to take it.
Would’ve been a cool Twilight Zone ep in the days before cancel culture, unfortunately in 2023 it was destined to be a bloated, boring, obviously allegory instead of exploring a legitimately interesting premise
should've been a 1hr movie.
90 min seemed fine?
You're wrong, homosexual
prove it

Are we pretending that Cage makes movies for anything but a paycheck? Whether it's good or not is up to chance.
if that were true you'd see him in more movies
dude dished out a lot of movies, 5 per year since his bankruptcy, you don't hear about em cause they are shit
we post about all of them here. there's not that many.
we really don't.
nobody talks about sympathy for the devil
retirement plan, the old way or whatever. it's all slop
>nobody talks about sympathy for the devil
>retirement plan, the old way
i made threads for all 3 of those
that's why everyone makes movies
Why did he fart when the girl was unbuckling to frick?

Old meme reference
It ended up being a really depressing end to an absurd scenario.
