personally I find Don Bluth animation and design to be second to none
but when it comes to stories he doubles down on trying to be disney slop
he tries to really appeal to kids but it just feels forced
the weirdness I don't mind so much
I just know I loved the part where wienerAAAAAAA-DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
I remember being autistically annoyed at the fact that they started talking in the middle of the opening music number when I watched it as a kid. Every time I'd watch it again I'd get annoyed at not getting to hear the whole song uninterrupted, just because Chanticleer had to tie that moronic dog's shoes for him.
I don't remember much of that except for the fact that my little brother liked watching it and I feel a vague nausea just thinking about the art? I can't say any other cartoon movie brings up feelings like that, so it has to be pretty special.
It’s obviously his voice from a later date, and he is recalling the events in a flashback/ telling a story, possibly reading it from a story book. Uncle Remus does the same thing in Song of the South whenever his character shows up and interacts with Brer Rabbit.

the character design is kino
the story is lame
The character designs is typical Don Bluth flair, some of them works, some of them don't.

I would have loved this movie if they would have just not included the narrator.
The narrator takes up almost 70% of the dialog.

I prefer The pebble and the penguin over this, honestly
I wanna wiener a doodle that chick
Nah. Most of Bluth's stuff is crap that looks good, and the good movies you can count on one hand
All of this. Except for A Troll in Central Park, maybe.
I don't remember much of that except for the fact that my little brother liked watching it and I feel a vague nausea just thinking about the art? I can't say any other cartoon movie brings up feelings like that, so it has to be pretty special.
What was up with every movie from this period trying to indoctrinate kids into having a TF fetish

The story really does deserve a better adaptation.

Tracing over CGI is dumb.
The Thief and the Cobbler is THE example of why pumping way too much resources into a movie and giving artists too much control is a bad idea.
okay mickey mouse
