Korra literally spends the entire series being metaphorically and spiritually raped by men until she becomes a broken depressed lesbian

do you think the writers intended this or it was just a thing that subconsciously happened

          1/2

Definitely not intended. Bryke are just morons and bad writers. Bryke have said they created Korra with the intent to be the opposite of Aang, and since she starts off as super strong that meant she had to be defeated and torn down cause an invincible character needs to be defeated mentally. Now maybe it is sexism and racism that two white dudes spent four seasons beating the shit out of a brown woman with the purpose of “humbling” her, but whatever. Bryke are also deeply insecure - I remember reading either the behind the scenes stuff or commentaries around season one when they were super proud of Mako - they thought he’d be a hit like Zuko was (cause they don’t understand him and wanted to capture the popularity of Zutara and Zuko) but Mako was hated by the fandom cause Bryke didn’t write Zuko, and in the later seasons he was dumped by Korra and shoved to the sidelines. This insecurity drives a lot of Bryke’s actions and they are sensitive to criticism. I think they definitely doubled down on having Korra be beaten all the time to combat the accusations of Korra being a Mary Sue, but I also think they did this because they are hack writers who think character being defeated = character development and audiences cooming over it. Stuff like Zuko and Aang’s self reflection from their low moments but this was all written by Aaron Ehaosz and not them, so since Bryke are soulless white Protestants they can’t write actual self reflection or development, they just write the superficial aspects of it. Character gets beat up + character sad = good writing, that’s unironically what they think and what they learned. Bryke are just hack writers who “deconstruct” because they think that is deep. Again they’re in the shadow of Ehaosz the good writer, they try to cover his ideas over and over again but can never reach his spiritual or intellectual depth. They remind me of Rian Johnson with his pseudointectualims and deconstruction.

Not as malicious as Rian Johnson but just as moronic. I think they just beat the shit out of Korra in naive ways to:
            > kill Korra criticism
            > desperately prove they are smart writers
            > psyop audiences into liking them with easy muh depression
            > jerk off their villains (which they did every season except Unaloq) because Bryke had a weird hard on for amon, Zaheer, and Kuvira where they really liked the aesthetics and idea of them and nothing else
            > cause Korra was a mediocre character they couldn’t actually do anything with her except beat her down
            > cause Bryke are moronic and don’t understand how to write actual humility and self reflection
            > cause Bryke think that is depression from constant trauma and humiliation
            > cause Bryke are probably unconsciously racist and sexist or got off to it
            > cause they’re hack writers that think they’re smart but they are just moronic
            > cause without Aaron Ehaosz and his wife giving all the good writing to women, Bryke’s unconscious biases just made makes women and Korra an object - either for male salivation or degradation
            > because despite jerking off the idea of Korra Bryke subconsciously wanted to brutalize her for not being the ideal moe waifu and just ~~*corrected*~~ her until she was unironically a traumatized rape victim because they don’t respect women who exist outside feminine roles or for the male gaze
            Take your pick

What happened to Asami to make her that way too?

Amon should of been a longterm villian + redemption arc
And him and Korra should of been the ones holding hands at the ending.

      Based and correctpilled

What happened to Asami to make her that way too?

Because Asami isn’t a character. Bryke seem almost incapable of writing characters with actual depth and the few they did are unintended. As for Asami:
      > existed solely for love triangle crap, coombait, and faux yuri bait

they absolutely had no intention of pairing her with Korra at the start

      > wanted mako and Korra, but fans hated him
      > fans loved bolin, but they sunk him in season one
By the time season four came around Korra was at her most depressed and they used Asami to fix her cause women only exist as support/feminine roles, and cause mako and Bolin were being irrelevant I guess. Also to get lgtv as a shield to cover up their bad writing
