A crossover comic from IDW indicated that El-Aurians were the Trek Universe equivalent of Time Lords.
Given the Timeless Child folderol in Doctor Who these days, it is entirely possible the Doctor is an El-Aurian who fell into the Whoniverse.
    So, yes.

generations clearly shows they have no magic powers. they just live a long time

i mean they leave a part of themselves in the nexus, that's kind of magic

that happens to everyone because the nexus is outside of time. kirk and picard are still there too

Was she the most powerful thing in Star Trek?

I thought Q was. Or was that just a higher dimensional being that abused it's power?
Gianan was like a watcher. Didn't think she had any power beyond that.

I think Q is just a racist and scared of black people. Sisko punched him in the face and he never returned to DS9.

thats because Q is a stand in for the studio demanding wacky adventures. they had to drop Q for DS9 because theres no way to avoid Q calling sisko monkey

Yeah, they can't be too powerful if their whole race was wiped out by the Borg.

Was her relationship with Picard ever fleshed out? Or was it really that time travel incident with Mark Twain.

Whoopi described Guinan as Picard's great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandmother and she was "checking up on him."

Yeah she is time lord mixed with the watcher. But she also acts as humanities therapist when she knows more humanity can do.

Your post makes it seem like you don't understand the concept of bartenders being a poor man's therapist.

                Anonymous

No, nothing like that. It just seems a little counter productive to have a being that is capable of time travel and peak listening skills to want to run a bar instead of vying to be ship's counsellor or something. Unless of course, her character serves to alleviate problems crew members are having they would rather not let Starfleet know about.

                >alleviate problems crew members are having they would rather not let Starfleet know about.
This actually. She kind of gives people in Starfleet a nudge to go beyond the rules. When I say therapist, I meant what that other anon said.
Also look at Quork from DeepSpace 9. Quork is also an information broker with cardassians and bejorans .

I never understood the point of this character. Doesn't she just make Dianna redundant?

I don’t get it either. It’s not even like they needed a token: they had Geordi and Michael Dorn

She was the sage who knew all and could solve all but knew that she life forms don't move forward unless they figure it out. She is there to give humanity a push.

Redundancy requires purpose and there was no purpose to be found in Troi.

She helped with Riker's character. In the first what, 2 seasons? Riker was a serious, no nonsense by the book officer. He later became more of a ladies man and they needed one of the crewman to become an interest to him so that he wouldn't just be a copycat of Kirk banging every alien they encountered.

        Imagine Riker fricking a Klingon.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but Wesley is the most powerful ST character now. Ever since he hooked up with The Traveller, he can manipulate time and space. He is one of "The Watchers" who keep an eye on things in ST:Picard. Mind you, he doesn't actually help or do anything, but he can do everything.

The problem with ST:P is that they brought in characters and did nothing with them. There was Wesley the Watcher, that fat b***h who became Queen of the Borg, and a shitload of other people who showed up and disappeared. Totally ruined the franchise.
