Was Steven Universe really one of the most ambitious groundbreaking series ever produced at CN?

Would been fine if it had good designs, good artsyle and good looking lesbian WOMEN, but nope, Sugar and her crew were colossal commiefornians so they made everyone androgynous to ridiculous extent, almost ti the point of screaming out loud, WHY NOT JUST MAKING THEM MALE GEMS! trying to pass the ugly fat purple gremlin as "the sexy one", making Stevonnie uglier and less woman-like (for SU standarts) every subsequent appearance to the point of the fricking beard, because Sugar got creeped out at her first episode. ZUKE's influence over all the previous points and many others, the atrocious quality control over the animation, the fricking calarts eyes and bean shape heads, the blatant shamless anime keyhandling references, the portrayal of dubious morals, the hatred of masculinity, the Rose/Pink Diamond apologia, the inconsistent lore, the procrastination of the plot, the non payoffs, the chacarters acting idiotic and the show bamboozling their audiences saying ITS ALRIGHT, the post movie season.

Geez, at least had good looking women, only few artists managed to make Connie good looking.

I disagree. I'm sick of cartoon men getting body variation while women get stuck with hourglass bodies. Not all of the gems were great designs but most of them at least let women be cartoons. coomers die mad

Like just a few years prior to the debut, that lesbo episode of AT was considered a bit much. How did the Overton window shift so much in so little time?

      Anonymous

      AT made lots of money
In the typical fashion all executives do - that is, all too late and for the wrong reasons - they realized there was something very real to story based, serialized cartoons with an atypical art style and a lot of queer shit.

No thats Gumball OP, you know an actual good cartoon instead of your average lore gayging troon shows like AT & SU

Don't pretend like the Gumball crew objects to LGBTQ to feel edgy. Airing on the same damn channel that actively promotes LGBTQ crap. It's stolen valor from people who branch out of mainstream media product

The difference between Gumball and SU is that Gumball doesnt put that lgbtq crap down to your throat all the time and most of it is for laughs, like that Gumball x hotdoguy ship isnt meant to be serious at all, they make fun of homosexuals basically

gumball was truly groundbreaking with how many different artstyles they could cram into a fricking show while also being funny and entertaining.
S.U is basically wasted potential: the show, it had too many cooks in the kitchen and all the good set ups were wasted. Townie episodes were also mostly fricking terrible.
I dropped the show after the cluster was resolved in a single episode and watched it a few years later and I was fricking right in dropping it then. Only thing that saves the show is that most character designs are pretty good aside from a few exceptions.

Shit fell off a cliff so fricking hard after S2A that it plowed into the ground and any form of potential it had was completely thrown out the window.
I guess in that sense you could call it groundbreaking.

How was kids tv changed forever tho?

      Anonymous

Steven Universe effectively killed the idea that kids TV even still existed because it's not a show for children but instead the adult-children making the show and other people in their age/generational group. Kids don't watch "kids TV" anymore, they watch Youtube and Twitch.

        Anonymous

And they shouldnt, because Youtube "Kids" its at best, censorious cancer for users and content creators, and at worst a hivemind of chimbox spiderman x elsa creepshit.

Also the Steven Bomb ratings trap, and the practice itself.

It was a horrible event, the Bubonic Plague of the cartoon world.
The characters are shit, Steven is a moron, the lesbian rocks are childish, and they cry all the fricking time, and later it turns gay as frick, I had potential to be interesting, especially with the Home planet mistery, but the lesbian creator obviously was going to mess up.

It's so disappointing how THIS PIECE OF SHIT had such success.

Cinemaphile doesn't like to admit it but it actually was. Sugar was like the only show runner who knew how to run a "lore" show. Also you're lying if you don't think Jailbreak was some insane shit that was pulled off.

While I agree that the show gave people plenty of prompts to work with for theories the show itself was underwhelming as frick.

Sugar knows how to introduce lore and dripfeed mystery, and how to use it to tie together otherwise less-than-relevant episodes, constantly unveiling little bits of information that made every episode at least a little important to understanding the story.

Sugar does not know how to DELIVER on lore or mystery.

No, that goes to the goat that is samurai jack. It's a cinematic achievement in animation that broke ground in narrative & visuals that still stands the test of time. I would classify this show as number #1 in animation. #2 would go to adventure time

It was the first mainstream American shoujo. While anime melodrama can annoy me, you have to admit that the backgrounds, music, and some of the other artistic choices for this children's show were very good. The movie and Future were meh, but that happens when you drag out anything successful. Can't believe it's been 10 years.
