This, pretty much. I had seen and mostly forgotten The Shining when I was a kid so when I rewatched it, it might as well have been the first time. Except I've been watching everything else ape the shit out of it for decades so it was dull as dogshit. Many such cases. Sad.
It's a solid movie but it's reputation is overblown
It's noteworthy for star power and production and a script with basically no major flaws, but I don't think I could ever muster enough love for it to call it one of my favorites. Certainly worth watching at least once, though
This is a dumb statement. The barrier to be able to enjoy and appreciate older movies is really small, if you can't get over it you're a brainlet or a child.
the vast majority of movies that came out 70-90 years ago are unwatchable. those same movies were fine when they first came out, but haven't aged well at all. that's why so much classical music and literature has been lost over time. the mediocre stuff gets replaced by new stuff. only the greats survive a century.
>the vast majority of movies that came out 70-90 years ago are unwatchable.
The vast majority of movies made today are unwatchable. And I would rather watch the best movies of the 30s and 40s over the best movies of today.

fr fr no cap. it no longer be drippin'. now avengers endgame, that's gonna stand the test of time
I was surprised by how engrossing it was.
Watched it for the first time last week.
I thought the ending was happier than other media have made it out to be.
The part where the whole bar mocks the nazis for being trans really pissed me off.
You sound like a homosexual.
kek
lets see in which mood Cinemaphile is today
Cinemaphile is a Double Indemnity board
casablancagays keep walking
Literally 2 of my top 5. Am I not welcome here?
What’s number 5
The Third Man
>bogart should have been played by a black guy
Cringe OP…real cringe
It’s only “average” to you because so many movies have tried be Casablanca

I was really surprised how much I enjoyed it.
of all the boards on Cinemaphile…
only people who watch too many movies expect old movies to be "good".
most old movies shown on TCM are shit. there's a reason nobody has heard of them.
The zoom zoom filter is working then.
i've seen hundreds of old movies homosexual
Sure you have, however I wouldn’t exactly call 90s,80s, and late 70s old.
noir alley almost 100% kino
homos and zoomers raus
tcm is woke bullshit
It is now but until about 7 years ago it was totally tolerable. The new logo and presentation makes me just ask “why?”
osbourne dying ruin the channel
Zorba The Greek is old and an fantastic movie.
Aguirre, Fitzcarraldo, and Cobra Verde you dumb b***h
Yes. It's war propaganda that was greatly overhyped to get Americans to support intervention in WW2.
so true king
I agree. This and Schindler's List were the only ones in the top 10 of AFI's top 100 that I thought were totally overrated.
Watch it again, it holds up to repeat viewings as well as any movie ever made
Sahara was better in every way
I'd watch To Have and Have Not over Casablanca any time.
It's a solid movie but it's reputation is overblown
It's noteworthy for star power and production and a script with basically no major flaws, but I don't think I could ever muster enough love for it to call it one of my favorites. Certainly worth watching at least once, though
overrated as all hell. Every Carol Reed noir flick is way better. Think it's propped up so much because of it's political meaning
Fallen Idol is even worse. I expected more of Reed
try watching it without playing on your phone
The fact that an 80 year old movie can be anything other than abhorrent and dated is a testament to its greatness. Being "just average" is fantastic.
There are some really stupid people posting here.

we have to do something about the people on this board
fricking moron

fr fr no cap. it no longer be drippin'. now avengers endgame, that's gonna stand the test of time
there might be one or two movies per year that will still be watched in a century. capeshit obviously won't fit that bill.
yea bruh. 2 classics every year since I turned 13. zero in the century before that. I mean no color? kinda sus if you ask me
I was surprised by how engrossing it was.

I just love Ingrid Bergman
good taste
Casablanca is pure soul and perfect storytelling so it's not surprising that zoomer morons don't appreciate it.
Bogie be simpin fo dat thot, fr fr no cap. Casino party wif him and Louis gonna be lit. Lets goooooo!
Tightest script I’ve ever seen.
t. Charlie Kaufman without the satire of it
Idc the runway scene and close ups between Bogart and Bergman is the stuff of legend
Casablanca is thoroughly mediocre
The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, now THERE'S a real movie
For me, it's Robert Mitchum
